Modern-day top jade-carving master Wei Lan transmigrates into an ancient novel as a cannon-fodder live-in Alpha.
In the original story, she comes from a poor family and is a useless nobody. Because she’s easy to control, she’s chosen by Lu Zijin to become the Lu family’s live-in Alpha.
Originally, all she had to do was enjoy her “free ride” in peace — but she grows greedy. Not only does she set her sights on the Lu family fortune, she even wants the female lead, Lu Zijin, to submit to her. She attempts to harm Lu Zijin several times, only to be exposed every time.
In the end, Lu Zijin and her childhood sweetheart break Wei Lan’s legs and throw her out of the Lu household. A few days later, she dies.
Wei Lan frowns as she reads the original plot:
Is the free ride not good enough? Or is carving jade not fun anymore? Why on earth would you provoke the female lead?
Having learned her lesson, Wei Lan strictly follows the rules Lu Zijin sets for her. She doesn’t cross any boundaries, and she certainly doesn’t go out of her way to appear in front of Lu Zijin. She rarely leaves the house, spending her days holding several unremarkable stones and carving them over and over.
At first, Lu Zijin feels that this live-in Alpha is quite well-behaved. She only allows Wei Lan to share her bed during her heat period, and afterward immediately sends her away. Wei Lan never shows the slightest complaint.
But gradually, Lu Zijin realizes that she feels differently about this Alpha. Even after her heat ends, she still likes staying with Wei Lan.
Unfortunately, Wei Lan keeps turning her down for the sake of those few broken stones in her arms — to the point that Lu Zijin starts finding those stones annoying as well.
Over the past year, the most sought-after jade carver in Great Zhou has been Qinglan.
Yet this master craftsman is extremely mysterious, rarely appearing in public — and when she does, she wears a mask and a large black hooded cloak, making it impossible to see her face.
Her works are incredibly hard to obtain, and their prices have been driven sky-high.
One night, the live-in Alpha everyone claims is living off her wife comes home.
Wei Lan holds a thick stack of banknotes, her eyes shining as she looks at Lu Zijin.
“Wife, I sold another carved ornament for a great price.”
Lu Zijin gazes at Wei Lan tenderly.
“Good. Such a good girl. You’ll get a reward later.”
