Chapter 92: Emily (3)

“Emily!!!”

I called her urgently, but the event had already happened.

Emily, crushed by the debris of the building that fell from the sky. I hurried towards her.

The ground continued to shake, and chunks of the building continued to fall, but I didn’t care about such things.

Right now, my mind is filled only with the thought of saving Emily, who was crushed by the stones while saving me.

“No. No. No.”

I cleared the building debris with my bare hands.

It was heavy. My hands were cut by the sharp debris, bleeding. It stung. But the fear Emily must have felt the moment she was crushed would be more than double.

I gritted my teeth and cleared the debris. A very large chunk had fallen, so there was a lot of debris piled on top of her.

Please. Please. Please.

I prayed inwardly. Tears welled up.

Why on earth was Emily crushed instead of me? What am I? Whether viewed socially or personally, Emily is a more precious person than me.

‘If only I hadn’t suggested coming out, this wouldn’t have happened!’

I resented my past self.

She died because of me, who hastily brought her outside when the earthquake happened. I killed her.

“Gasp. Please. Emily. Please.”

Tears streamed down. The droplets flowing down my cheeks wet the debris. My palms were soaked in blood, and I was too exhausted to lift even a light stone.

My arms hurt as if they would break.

There was so much building debris that there was a limit to what I could move.

Only then did my head start working.

“Th-This isn’t the time. What am I doing?”

I acted emotionally in a situation where every second counted. Instead of doing this myself, it was right to call a knight or a wizard.

I quickly went out to ask for help from people nearby.

Flop.

In the process, my legs gave out, and I fell, scraping my knee, but I didn’t feel the pain.

My brain was completely frozen by the thought that she might really be dead.

“Wizard! Knight! Emily is in danger!”

I hadn’t brought escorts because I had rushed out. When I opened the mansion door, I saw the knight who had followed us.

I urgently pointed to the pile of debris and spoke.

“Baronet? Why is your body like that…”

“E-Emily is in danger. Please help. Please.”

“What? What did you say?”

The knight rushed towards the debris. He spoke to the surrounding wizards in a mana-infused voice.

“The young lady is in danger. Requesting two wizards for support.”

A wizard who heard his voice approached.

They heard the situation from him and soon cast levitation magic. Because if the knight lifted it carelessly, Emily inside could be harmed.

“Young lady! Get a hold of yourself! Can you hear me?”

The knight spoke while the debris was slowly being lifted by levitation. But there was no answer.

My legs gave out, and I collapsed.

I thought Emily would be fine because she was armed with artifacts, but my heart sank when she didn’t answer.

Of course, she might have simply fainted. But if she had fainted, she should have woken up to the knight’s mana.

Because a knight’s aura inherently contains the power to awaken a target’s mind.

I bit my nails and watched the rescue operation.

‘God. Please. Help me just once. Please save Emily. I’ll make offerings and regularly recite prayers from now on, please.’

I sought the God I didn’t usually believe in.

Meanwhile, the wizards meticulously cast magic and lifted the debris. Not only that, but a priest who heard the request for support also came and was waiting.

If she was injured, they were ready to pour healing magic on her immediately to save her.

Finally, all the building debris was lifted, and Emily’s figure appeared.

Emily, with her usual smooth, white skin. Despite being crushed by heavy building debris, she had no injuries.

Seeing that, I felt a primary sense of relief. The priest used healing magic just in case, and the wizard moved her to the safe first floor of the mansion.

“God. Please grant me strength.”

Radiant divine power enveloped Emily. But Emily’s consciousness did not return.

“W-Why? Priest. What’s the problem? She clearly didn’t have any injuries because of the artifacts.”

“Th-I don’t know either. Externally, there’s nothing wrong, and there are no internal injuries either.”

The priest used healing magic several times, looking troubled. Powerful divine power continuously enveloped her. Even though the priest used it until sweat dripped down, Emily did not open her eyes.

“Emily.”

I held her hand.

It was warm, but also cold. It wasn’t the warmth of a living person.

I placed my hand on her chest. Fortunately, her heart was beating well.

‘What is it? Her body is fine. Then why is death approaching?’

The fact that her body temperature was gradually decreasing clearly meant something was wrong. But the priest said there was no physical problem.

I don’t know.

Wondering if she would get better if she drank a potion, I tried pouring a potion into her mouth, but nothing changed.

“Young lady.”

Everyone fell silent.

The knight looked remorseful for failing to protect his master, the wizard was bewildered by the unexpected event, and the priest was frustrated by something that divine power couldn’t solve.

I shed tears and blamed myself.

If only it weren’t for me. If only I hadn’t been there. If only I hadn’t taken her out. If only I hadn’t returned to the mansion. Me. Me. Me.

Crunch.

The various emotions swirling in my head, such as self-blame and pain, soon converged into anger.

All of this is because of me and that Death Worm.

Before self-loathing could set in, the anger towards that worm b*stard intensified.

I have to kill the worm.

It wasn’t just out of anger.

Outside the mansion, visible through the window. It was chaos, with buildings collapsing, people fleeing, and knights struggling.

Many people besides Emily were injured. To save them, this situation needs to be stabilized as soon as possible.

But as long as the Death Worm is alive, there is no safe place on the ground, and the priests mobilized for battle and the hidden alchemists cannot move freely.

Furthermore, Emily cannot be treated actively either.

To solve all these problems, that worm b*stard must be killed.

‘Then how? Think, Rachel. How did they kill that worm b*stard in the original work?’

I spurred my brain, which had been frozen with fear. I accelerated my thoughts and recalled the original work.

Tens of thousands of pages. Hundreds of episodes. Dozens of types of magical beasts that appeared and the methods the protagonist chose to kill them.

‘Yes. There was that method.’

I asked the wizard.

“Wizard. Could you possibly cast a loudspeaker magic that can spread throughout the area?”

“Huh? Loudspeaker magic?”

“Yes. Maybe we can kill that worm b*stard.”

“Um. Yes. Understood. Just a moment.”

He took out a magic stone from subspace. After casting loudspeaker magic on it, he handed it to me.

“Ah, ah. Can you hear me?”

The sound echoed outside the window.

-Ah, ah. Can you hear me?

After confirming that the sound was heard well, I immediately said what came to mind. The situation was such that I couldn’t organize it clearly.

“Everyone. This is Baronet Arcane Rachel, the descendant of the Poison King. Naturally, as the descendant of the Poison King, I know magical beasts well.

The name of the worm currently roaming down there is the Death Worm, a member of the worm family. To hunt that thing, we must first lure it.”

No matter how powerful the magic cast, it is impossible to inflict full damage on the Death Worm inside the ground.

Even if it were possible, everything on the surface would have to be destroyed first.

So it must be lured out to the surface. But.

“We need to lure it far away from here. First, it won’t come up where a barrier is set, and even if it does, if that huge thing comes up, there will be even greater damage than this.”

I cleared my throat and continued. My voice was slightly hoarse from crying and shouting for Emily, but it was okay because there was a microphone.

“That thing is weak to sound. Send loud noises into the ground. If done right, you can inflict great damage. If it comes out because it can’t stand it, then we can attack!”

In the original work, the hero also caught the Death Worm this way.

Instead of sight, it detects prey with its sensitive hearing, so this principle was used.

Looking outside, the knights and wizards were whispering. Arguments arose about whether to believe it or not.

It’s a natural reaction.

Suddenly, someone claiming to be the descendant of the Poison King appeared and said they would tell how to defeat the Death Worm. Moreover, that descendant is a Baronet.

It’s understandable that credibility is low.

But. Their confusion subsided with the voice that rang out soon after.

“I’ll acknowledge it, staking my position as the Magic Tower Master.”

The Magic Tower Master’s acknowledgment. And the one who drove the nail in was the master of this place.

“I acknowledge it too. Everyone, hurry!”

Heimer also added credibility to my statement. Finally, the knights and wizards began to move in unison.
