Wizards began driving out the Death Worm with high-frequency magic.
Since it used frequencies inaudible to the human ear, Rachel couldn’t hear it.
The Death Worm writhed in response to the sound and moved away from it.
In the process, the ground shook violently again, but they paid no mind.
The wizards monitoring the creature’s location noticed it moving away and continued to track it.
Then, at a point far from the base camp, they fired a powerful high-frequency wave.
Finally unable to bear it, the Death Worm emerged from the ground with a tremendous roar.
Kuuuoooarrrk!!!!
The ground tore apart, and fragments of the shattered earth scattered in all directions.
The range was so wide that additional buildings in the base camp collapsed.
“Now! Everyone, concentrated fire!”
“Kill it!”
“Finish it quickly. Concentrate fire on its vulnerable spots! Hurry!”
The wizards unleashed the spells they had prepared in advance.
The knights launched sword energy to break the Death Worm’s armor.
Blue flames erupted, and red rain poured down.
Even the thick-shelled Death Worm couldn’t withstand the concentrated barrage.
So it tried to burrow back into the ground.
But the Archmage specializing in sound struck the ground, resonating immense noise.
Woowoong! Woowoong! Woowoong!
Kieeeeek!
The Death Worm writhed in agony.
It twisted its body and charged towards the wizards.
But this time, a Sword Master resting from injury blocked its charge by thrusting his fist forward.
Ultimately, the Death Worm died after being hit by thousands of spells over 10 minutes.
“Finally caught it! Let’s go back!”
“Kwahahaha!!! Finally!”
It was truly a dirty fight.
Its monstrous regenerative ability allowed it to rise even after enduring all sorts of attacks.
Those who participated in the subjugation trembled with disgust.
The priests who followed behind drove out the demonic energy with divine power, just in case it posed a problem.
Eventually, the Death Worm, which boasted a colossal length, disintegrated into black dust.
After the Death Worm was dealt with, the base camp devoted all its efforts to treating the injured.
As it was a society based on status, priests attended to the high-ranking children first and quickly saved them.
However, Emily, second only to the prince in rank, still hadn’t opened her eyes.
“Emily.”
Rachel held Emily’s delicate hand.
It was less warm than usual.
Time was passing, and it was losing its warmth.
If this continued, it would become completely cold, which could mean death.
Shake, shake.
Rachel shook her head.
She didn’t even allow herself such thoughts, believing words could become reality.
Instead, she imagined playing with her, drinking coffee, and reading books together.
But the image of Emily with her eyes closed kept bothering her.
“Emily. Why on earth aren’t you waking up?”
The priest clearly said there was nothing wrong.
Even after Rachel administered a top-grade recovery potion she made herself, there was no change.
“Was her mind injured from the shock?”
Even if there was a problem with her brain, the potion and divine power should have healed it.
It meant the problem wasn’t physical anymore.
Then, there was ultimately only one answer.
Her consciousness wasn’t returning due to severe mental shock.
“I should have studied medicine if this was going to happen.”
She had studied for Yona, but that knowledge was focused on alchemy.
Rachel held Emily’s hand and placed it on her forehead.
She conveyed her heartfelt wish for her to wake up.
Just then, the trumpet of victory echoed throughout the base camp.
Tooo! Toooo! Tooooo!
It signified the death of the Death Worm.
Everyone cheered at the sound.
Rachel was certainly glad, but with Emily collapsed, her anxiety and sorrow were greater.
Then, someone knocked on the door.
Knock, knock.
“Come in.”
“Yes.”
The female knight who entered glanced at Emily once and then spoke to Rachel.
“His Highness the Prince requests Lady Rachel’s presence.”
“Why? Isn’t the situation already over?”
“I’m not sure, but I heard the battle wasn’t fought by our side.”
Only then did Rachel remember that other front lines were also fighting magical beasts.
They needed her, with her extensive knowledge of magical beasts.
“I’ll go, please wait a moment.”
“Yes.”
The knight closed the door and left.
Left alone, Rachel placed a small kiss on Emily’s forehead.
“I’ll be back.”
She arrived at the operation control room.
The atmosphere should have been cheerful after defeating the Death Worm, but their expressions were far from good.
Heimer tapped the desk with his hand.
“Now that everyone’s here, let’s talk. Currently, the Demon King and the Hero have clashed.”
Click.
The observer turned on, displaying the situation there.
A monster covered in ominous aura with dark red skin.
Its horns were enormous, its body even more massive, and just seeing it on the screen instilled fear.
‘That’s the Demon King.’
Gulp.
Embarrassingly, she was terrified for a moment.
If she, just watching on a screen, felt this way, how must those facing it feel?
Soon, the battle began.
The Demon King’s thunderous roar spread in all directions.
The knights and wizards standing before him were momentarily terrified.
Like Rachel.
But among them existed one chosen by the goddess, capable of opposing the Demon King.
“Follow me!”
Hero Evan. He ran, enveloped in a brilliant yellow radiance.
The white light trailing behind him drove away the demonic energy and burned away the fear.
The incinerated fear turned into anger and courage, giving them the strength to fight the Demon King.
“Let’s goooo!!!! Kill him!”
“Alright! Let’s go!”
“Take my sword! Demon King!”
“Hiyah!”
They tread on gold and fight against evil.
They charged with the mission to kill the Demon King.
The Demon King’s army did the same.
They clashed, treading on ominously flickering black silk.
The battle was fierce.
While some died without swinging their sword even once, others single-handedly cut down dozens of magical beasts.
“Rachel. Are there any among them whose weaknesses you know?”
“Yes. There are a few. First, to mention them, that flying one with horns is weak to electromagnetism, so it can be caught with Call Lightning. And that one over there.”
Rachel spoke diligently.
Since all her previous statements had been correct, Heimer immediately relayed the information.
The battlefield grew increasingly intense.
Blood flowed like rivers on the ground, and white radiance and black death mingled, creating shades of gray.
Another observer displayed a map of the magic territory.
Red dots and blue dots were mixed.
Those dots on the map represented the current battle situation between the Demon King’s army and the human forces.
Even now, human soldiers were moving from surrounding front lines.
The Demon King’s side was doing the same, so the battle was still like a candle in the wind, its outcome uncertain.
“Phew. Fortunately, the Demon King isn’t crazy.”
“Indeed. It would have been disastrous if the Demon King had joined the battle before all the troops gathered.”
Heimer and the leaders nodded.
But tragedy always strikes at unexpected moments.
The moment they felt relieved, the Demon King, who had his eyes closed, opened them.
The energy spreading from his ominous demonic eyes descended upon the battlefield.
[The end… has come.]
Afterward, the tide of battle instantly shifted in favor of the Demon King.
Knights were swept away by a single gesture of his hand, and the wizards’ magic had no effect.
To make matters worse, even the Hero was slowly being pushed back, casting a shadow over everyone’s faces.
Heimer looked at Rachel with a glimmer of hope.
He wondered if Rachel might also know the Demon King’s weakness.
After all, the Poison King was said to have faced the Demon King before.
Rachel read his gaze and closed her eyes.
She opened the original work in her mind.
How exactly did they defeat him in the original?
‘The situation in the original was much bleaker than this.’
At that time, let alone troop assembly, the entire magic territory was usurped.
Half of the subjugation army stationed there died, and the other half fled the Demon King and retreated.
Wasn’t it during that weakened state of the empire that Emily seized the throne?
‘What was it? Why can’t I remember?’
Her mind, which usually worked well, wasn’t functioning properly.
Because thoughts of Emily kept popping up.
Moreover, the part about defeating the Demon King came right after the love scene between the Hero and Emily, and she hadn’t been able to read it closely because her current life was too busy.
‘Think. I have to think!’
That’s the only way to save Emily.
Who knows? Perhaps defeating the Demon King would naturally cause Emily to wake up.
As she thought that far, the content hidden in the fog became clear.
“Ah, right. There are those supporting the Demon King behind him. They are wearing black robes, I see them over there. If you defeat them, the Demon King’s power weakens drastically.”
“Why?”
“Didn’t the Demon King suddenly appear from the Demon King’s castle? Even the Demon King cannot teleport this many troops over such a long distance. So, he paid a certain price.”
“He traded power for movement.”
“Yes. And those black mages are replenishing that power.”
Heimer found it plausible and immediately relayed the information.
The Hero tilted his head but tried killing a robed figure as a test, and the Demon King reacted defensively, startled, blocking the Hero.
Thus, the battle entered yet another new phase.
