Chapter 23 : Resurrection

Rachel looked at the expressions of the people around her and hesitantly asked, “So, uh, the resurrection of the dead is a very bad situation?”

“You probably don’t know much about magic,” Andrew said.
“Yes, very bad. Because whether it’s creating new life with magic or resurrecting the dead, it’s an absolute taboo.”

“First of all, from an ability perspective, these two things are simply impossible to achieve. Even the elves, in their long river of time, have never been able to do it.”

“Secondly, according to all written records, whenever anyone has tried to do this in history, it has always led to disaster, and there has never been a good end.”

“Do you have to be so dramatic?” Rachel was completely bewildered.

“It’s more complicated than that. To be precise, it just includes that possibility,” Yuhui explained.
“Roughly speaking, from a theoretical perspective, although the concept of the ‘soul’ has not yet been proven to exist, all the knowledge passed down related to the resurrection of the dead has one thing in common:”

“The basic condition for resurrecting the dead is to summon the soul of the deceased from another world and reattach it to the deceased’s body—the body can be the original one, or a new flesh, but it must be a soulless dead body, and it must be well-preserved and not decayed.”

“So?” Rachel still didn’t get the point.
In fact, Yuhui’s explanation only made her more confused.

This feeling was like when she was studying computer science back in the day.
The professor and the online course instructor would blather on, and she wouldn’t understand a damn thing.
After four years, the only thing she managed to figure out was how to type “Hello World” in Dev-C++.

Dammit.
The thought of her failed university life made her want to puke.

However, she noticed the expressions of the two Inquisitors change subtly when Yuhui mentioned that “the concept of the soul has not been proven.”
In any case, it was definitely not a pleasant expression.

‘Did this guy just say something that offended the clergy?’

“The soul that is brought back may not be the soul of the deceased, but a vengeful spirit from hell. Even worse, it could bring a demon to earth,” Andrew took over.

“A demon?” Rachel seemed to have thought of something unpleasant, her face showing disgust.

“Piecing together corpses is a relatively common practice in this type of magic, and such a stitched-together body will be a more powerful vessel for the soul, and can even fuse with multiple souls,” Yuhui said.
“We can’t delay any longer.”

Andrew asked, “Do you have any information about that person’s whereabouts?”

Rachel shook her head.
“We’ve hit a dead end. We can’t find him at all.”

As she spoke, Rachel looked at Yuhui with a bit of complaint.
She felt that this man had not been very concerned about Blake’s whereabouts, even though it was his mission.

Yuhui was the same as always, leaning leisurely against the wall, his metal prosthetic finger gently tapping the wall.
He wasn’t flustered at all, as if this matter had nothing to do with him, like a slacker student in the back row of an elective class.

His eyes were always vacant, as if he was thinking about something, or as if he was in a daze, with an expression that said, “Can you not be so troublesome?”

This guy didn’t seem to be here to do work, but to slack off.

Andrew said, “Perhaps I can help a little.”

“How can you help?” Rachel asked.

“When I was young, I had the privilege of studying at the Astral Academy, so I know a little about magic,” Andrew made a small gap with his fingers.
“I’m still a little confident in this area.”

Rachel and Yuhui exchanged a glance.
She said in surprise, “Really? That’s great!”

On a street in Sinhe City, Rick had just walked out of a restaurant, holding a can of coffee.

Actually, Rick didn’t have the habit of drinking coffee; he preferred alcohol.
But after meeting with Rachel yesterday, he had a bit of insomnia and didn’t sleep well at night, so he was very lethargic during the day.

His usual routine was irregular; he usually slept until noon before getting up, but today he got up very early.
Besides him, his underlings also got up very early because they had things to do.

Yesterday, he had called over a few of his long-time underlings, showed them the wanted information about Blake Morton on the internet one by one, and asked them to take all their people and do their best to find Blake’s whereabouts in Sinhe City.

“Also, don’t leak the news. No one should know who we’re looking for, especially the person himself,” Rick reminded them one last time.
“If word gets out, we’re all dead. I haven’t lived enough yet. What about you? Huh? You, and you, what about you? Do you want to die?”

“Remember this, all of you have parents to support, families to take care of, and children to worry about. Don’t mess up. This time, we’re not doing this for money, but for our own lives. Handle it well, don’t drag yourself down, and don’t implicate other brothers, understand?”

Rick wasn’t sure how much effect this operation would have, or how much help it would be.
He was just doing as Rachel asked.
He helped as much as he could, hoping that Rachel would deal with this matter quickly and not get him involved.

Just as he was standing alone on the street, lost in thought, a phone call came.

Rick took out his phone, and the voice of his underling came from it.
“Boss, I think I’ve found the person you were talking about.”

“What? Are you… sure?” Rick was first startled, then lowered his voice.

“I… I’m not sure, but I, I think it’s him!”

“Keep your voice down!” Rick said in a low voice.
“Where are you now? Where is he?”

“I’m on Rollins Avenue now. I found him an hour ago. I followed him all the way to a deserted factory near the west side of Rollins Avenue. He hasn’t left since he entered the workshop. I’ve kept some distance. He probably hasn’t found me yet.”

Rick wanted to have his underling come to him first, but he was worried about losing Blake, so he said, “I’m on my way to you now.”

After hanging up, he was still a little uneasy, so he edited a text message and sent it to Rachel.

“Dear Rachel, my subordinate has found a person suspected to be Blake Morton at a deserted factory on the west side of Rollins Avenue, and is now following him closely. I am now informing you of the address, but I am not sure, and I am not at ease. I am going to find him first. If it is really Blake Morton, I hope you can come as soon as possible.”

After pressing the send button, Rick hesitated for a moment, but still decided to take a risk and go see for himself first.
He didn’t plan to personally follow Blake, but just to find his underling and confirm the details with him.
He would definitely keep a considerable distance from Blake.

For his own safety, the location would also definitely be in a place where the public gathered.
Blake probably wouldn’t be so eager to appear in public, and even if such a thing really happened, he would be relatively safer in a crowd.
