Chapter 35: The Damned Evil God Followers Are Still After Me

A dreamless night, but Dounia still couldn’t sleep soundly.

After tossing and turning on the bed for who knows how many times, Dounia finally drifted off into a drowsy state between sleep and wakefulness.

Gradually, the orange-yellow light once again brightened.

Dounia let out a muffled groan.

“You’re awake. You’re a girl now,” Lilith reminded her with a mischievous grin.

“I don’t need you to tell me that…!” Dounia indignantly threw off the covers and glared at the culprit. “Even in a girl’s body, I still have the heart of a man!”

“No matter what kind of offensive you launch against me, you can’t possibly change my mind,” Dounia said, crossing her arms and turning her head away.

“Oh? Is that so?” Lilith’s lips curled into a dangerous smile. “Then I’ll have to look forward to it…”

With a pop, the little demon vanished into thin air, but the radio on the table began to emit a fuzzy, crackling sound.

“Hmm?” Dounia narrowed her eyes. “Is the signal bad?”

Crackle—

Dounia forcefully slapped the radio and twisted the antenna to another direction.

“Nia… my lady.”

The familiar voice sounded again.
Dounia was so startled she fell backward, then did an agile backflip onto the bed.

The thick quilt separated her from the radio, as if it had become a sturdy shield.

“The radio is haunted!” Dounia clutched her head with both hands.

“It’s not going to turn into an Anomalous Item, is it? But, it hasn’t been affected by anything anomalous, has it?”

“Do… crackle… Nia… my lady.”

“Can… you… see…?”

The strange voice that had only appeared when she touched the forbidden book echoed in Dounia’s ears once more.

“Could it be that the anomaly is actually me?” Dounia placed her hand on the radio, but the fragmented voice did not improve.

Then, she stroked the smooth antenna.

“…Please give us your instructions,” a gentle and maternal female voice sounded.

‘She definitely has a large bust! F-cup or higher!’

Dounia nodded her little head sagely, proud of her correct reasoning.

“Hello, hello? Can you hear me?”

The radio fell silent again.

“That’s right,” Dounia spread her hands. “This isn’t a phone. It would be strange if we could have a two-way conversation.”

‘But if I add the power of the Chalice of Malice, it might be possible to contact the other party.’

‘Regarding the matter with Alicia, perhaps this person who calls me “Lady Dounia” could also create some variables.’

“Well, since it’s come to this, let’s eat first!” Dounia, having failed in her attempt, was not discouraged.

She had been too tired yesterday and hadn’t had a chance to see if the staff cafeteria had any late-night snacks.

Dounia quickly tidied herself up in front of the mirror and then trotted out excitedly.

“A beautiful breakfast, here I come!~”

Thump—

She seemed to have crashed into some kind of soft cushion and was pushed to the ground by a powerful rebound force.

“Oof?” Dounia, seeing stars, shook her head and looked at the person who had arrived.

It was Miss Adelle, back to her usual self.

What was different from usual was that she wasn’t wearing her maid uniform, but a black suit, and was carrying a gorgeous briefcase in her hand.

Adelle, wearing diamond stud earrings, had her grayish-blue hair tied up high, adding a touch of heroic spirit.
At first glance, she looked a bit like a certain ahoge king guarding some lady’s side.

A cold gaze swept over Dounia without restraint.

“What should you call me?”

“…” Dounia narrowed her eyes unhappily, almost blurting out everything she had seen last night.

‘But I, Dounia, am no fool.’

“My esteemed Miss Adelle, my beloved Lady Surveillance Officer~” Dounia placed a hand on her chest and replied politely.

Adelle glanced at her, not bothering to argue.

‘It seems she recovered well last night. Her Corruption has even dropped a little.’

‘Hmph, if she thinks she can escape my grasp just like that, then she’s far too naive!’

‘So-called corruption is a cycle. It seems like you’re escaping the mire, but in reality, you’re stepping into an even darker abyss step by step… until both your body and soul are stained black.’

‘Wait, why am I getting excited? Don’t tell me I’ve been infected by Lilith!’

Dounia’s little face turned pale.

“Let’s go have breakfast first. You haven’t been paid yet, so it’s my treat,” Adelle then turned around. “We have another mission today. Don’t waste time.”

“So generous, Lady Surveillance Officer?” Dounia poked Adelle’s arm with her elbow.

“Or you can carry out the mission on an empty stomach. I have no objection,” Adelle replied coldly. “When the time comes, even if you have no strength left, I will drag you along.”

Dounia instantly imagined herself clinging to one of Adelle’s arms, her feet worn raw.

“Then I’d better eat properly.”

The two of them passed through the corridor and arrived at the staff cafeteria on the first floor.

The warm sunlight illuminated half of the cafeteria.
Many employees Dounia had never seen before were sitting at the tables, eating and chatting cheerfully.

“What would you like to eat?” Adelle asked.

Dounia stood on her tiptoes, scanning the menu back and forth.

“I want waffles with maple syrup, and one of these ‘yogurt cups’,” the silver-haired girl said, tilting her head up slightly, happily choosing her breakfast.

Adelle’s gaze softened imperceptibly.

‘A very girly choice.’

“I hope you can finish it,” Adelle said, decisively handing over a few silver coins.

“Hey? How many silver coins does this cost!?” Dounia was shocked. “Is it that expensive?”

She subconsciously compared it to the prices of her past life, then realized.

‘This is the apocalypse…’

“Every delicacy has its price,” Adelle said, not surprised.
She then ordered a standard bacon and fried egg for herself, with a slice of toast.

The two of them carried their trays and sat down.
Many curious gazes were directed at them.

“Look… it’s Miss Adelle and that new Executioner.”

“What’s her name again? I heard she’s Instructor Latifah’s new student.”

“Her name is Dounia. I heard she was originally arrested and brought into the Bureau as a Pleasure Follower because of some incident.”

“I never thought she would be able to win the appreciation of two psychology instructors at the same time.”

“They seem to have a subtle sense of compatibility.”

“What are you talking about? They’re both girls.”

“Oh, sorry, sorry. I just think they’re both very good-looking, so I just subconsciously…”

Adelle glanced at Dounia with a complicated expression.

Dounia took a bite of her waffle, completely indifferent to the surrounding chatter, fully immersed in her own world.

“Let’s talk about today’s mission,” Adelle said, wiping the corner of her mouth. “This mission was originally assigned to another team, but another urgent mission came up in Winterfrost City, so they were temporarily reassigned.”

“We need to go resupply the energy core for that Snow Country Express train that was blocked by the snowstorm.”

Dounia’s eyes widened slightly, the sweet maple syrup stuck in her throat.

“Cough, cough… cough, cough, cough…”

“What did you say!?”

‘She was just thinking about how to evade the mission to kill Alicia, and now the assignment comes right after?’

‘The damned evil god followers are still after me!’
