Chapter 13: Sensitive and shy Yi Lan is the cutest

When Yi Lan was woken up by menstrual cramps in the middle of the night, she found the person slumped over her bedside.

Her arms were curled up, with her head resting on them.

She was sleeping very uncomfortably, and a few tears had seeped from the corners of her eyes.

It was unclear whether she was having a bad dream or because of her sleeping position.

She looked at her gradually stained hair and sleeves and couldn’t help but reach out.

Jiang Wenting was a light sleeper and immediately opened her eyes when she felt the movement beside her.

“You’re awake?” Her voice was a little hoarse and low from just waking up.

A gentle smile spread across her cheeks.

“How are you feeling? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”

“Jiang Wenting,” Yi Lan wanted to reply, but she opened her mouth and didn’t know what to say.

Jiang Wenting quickly noticed the fine sweat on her temples and stood up nervously.

“Does it hurt a lot? Do you need me to call the doctor in?”

She pursed her lips and shook her head, her gaze shifting slightly towards her abdomen.

Jiang Wenting understood.

“Your stomach hurts, right?”

Yi Lan rarely nodded in response.

“Periods are really uncomfortable. Every time I get mine, I have to take painkillers to get through it. But generally, it’s better not to take painkillers. They’re addictive and have a lot of side effects.”

As Jiang Wenting spoke, she put her hand into her blanket.

Before Yi Lan could react, a warm palm was placed on her lower abdomen.

Her body couldn’t help but tremble.

Jiang Wenting turned her head.

“Don’t be nervous. I’ll rub it for you. It won’t hurt after I rub it.”

The warmth of her palm spread across her abdomen, again and again.

Yi Lan still couldn’t help but tremble.

Her body was sensitive, and a little further down would have caused a reaction.

When they were together, Jiang Wenting loved to tease her like this.

“Mmm~” A muffled groan.

Yi Lan associated it with some images and couldn’t bear it.

She called out her name, her voice trembling, “Jiang Wenting…”

Jiang Wenting stopped and looked at her with concerned eyes.

“Is it still very uncomfortable?”

A thin layer of pink climbed up Yi Lan’s pale cheeks.

She didn’t know how to express this discomfort to her.

The fine sweat on her temples still seeped out.

Jiang Wenting was a little worried.

“If it’s still very uncomfortable, I’ll go to the doctor and get some painkillers.”

As she spoke, she was about to get up, but Yi Lan grabbed her wrist.

Jiang Wenting turned her head and saw her biting her lip, her heroic eyes carrying a hint of inexpressible embarrassment.

She pondered for a moment and guessed, “Did your period leak onto your pants? It’s okay, I’ll change them for you later.”

“Jiang Wenting,” Yi Lan called her name, and after a few seconds, she shook her head.

“No.”

Her tone was very faint, and the redness on her cheeks had not yet subsided.

Jiang Wenting belatedly realized, her eyes scanning her, and then she smiled.

“Are you shy?”

Being seen through, Yi Lan felt even more uncomfortable.

After rolling her eyes fiercely, she turned her gaze away.

Jiang Wenting couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.

She never would have thought that the person who was mistaken for a block of wood just a moment ago would be so shy from an unintentional touch.

And her angry look was so cute!

Yi Lan was both angry and annoyed and ignored her.

Jiang Wenting went to the water dispenser and got half a cup of hot water to feed her.

The warm water flowed down her throat, and the pain in her lower abdomen was also relieved.

She finished it in one go and pushed away the paper cup.

Jiang Wenting asked if she wanted another cup.

The other person stuck out her tongue, licked the water stains on her lips, and shook her head.

Still so cute.

Jiang Wenting smiled, went to the water dispenser herself and got half a cup of warm water.

She didn’t mind that the other person had used the paper cup and drank it all down in one go.

She licked her lips and walked around to the bedside to look at her.

“Yi Lan,” she called her name, but didn’t say anything.

Yi Lan raised her eyes and met those smiling eyes and the mole at the corner of her eye.

“You’re very cute when you’re shy!” Jiang Wenting added the sentence she hadn’t said earlier.

Seeing those phoenix eyes glaring at her, she smiled.

“You’re also very cute when you’re angry.”

Yi Lan closed her eyes in anger, not wanting to hear another word from her.

But that gentle voice continued, “I was in a really negative mood today. I don’t know why, but seeing you so cute, all those bad emotions suddenly disappeared.”

“Yi Lan,” Jiang Wenting called out again, her tone serious.

“You have to be well, you know?”

Yi Lan’s originally closed eyes opened again and met the sadness in Jiang Wenting’s eyes.

Her heart was pierced with pain.

Their eyes met.

Jiang Wenting put away her worry, raised her hand gently, and stroked her head.

“Sleep. I’ll watch over you.”

Those phoenix eyes did not close.

They just stared straight at her for a long while before she spoke faintly, “Jiang Wenting, I will be well.”

Before she got an explanation from her, she would be well.

She would hold on with a single breath, wait for that Jiang Wenting to wake up, and then ask her personally why she had to use her own life to block those arrows even though she had betrayed her, why she had to put her in such a difficult position.

Although, after calming down these past two days, she had also faintly sensed that the soldiers’ final deaths were perhaps not as simple as betrayal, but that someone had directly ordered it.

Because with the strength of the Beilin Kingdom, it was not enough to mobilize the army of Da Jing, let alone the soldiers of the border defense camp, who were directly under the Imperial Palace of Da Jing.

The person in the capital had been wary of her for more than a day or two.

It was just that she didn’t understand why Jiang Wenting had to do that.

She was her pillow companion, the love of her life.

In all her life, she had been abandoned by her relatives and betrayed by her friends.

Only she, only Jiang Wenting, was the only person she could trust in her life.

But in the end, she still betrayed her, betrayed the entire Southern Border Army.

She couldn’t understand.

She wanted to wait for her to wake up.

She wanted her to give her an explanation, or a reasonable reason, so that she could tell those fallen soldiers that their deaths had nothing to do with her, that her woman was not a traitor!

But they were all dead.

What reason could be reasonable enough to comfort those wronged souls, to make those spirits forgive her so easily, forgive them…

Seeing the light in the other’s eyes gradually dim, Jiang Wenting didn’t say any more to herself.

After pulling the blanket up for her, she also opened the companion bed and lay down beside her.

A night passed, and Xiao Ru still seemed to be angry.

Jiang Wenting sent her messages, but she didn’t reply, and she didn’t answer her calls.

The doctor came in to give Yi Lan an IV drip, check her body, and ask about her condition.

Jiang Wenting could only temporarily put this matter aside and focus on taking care of the patient.

When everything was arranged, there was a sudden knock on the ward door.

Jiang Wenting’s eyes visibly brightened as she went to open the door.

“Beiye? Why are you…” Jiang Wenting thought it was Xiao Ru, but didn’t expect Beiye to come early.

The other person held up the cake in her hand.

“I came early to give you a surprise. Isn’t that nice?”

Jiang Wenting smiled and took the cake from her hand.

“A surprise, a surprise. You’re the best at giving surprises!”

Beiye squeezed in through the door, her puppy eyes eagerly scanning the hospital bed.

Just as Yi Lan also looked over, their eyes met.

“Hello!” Beiye waved her small hand in greeting, her smile sweet.

Yi Lan looked at her, her cold phoenix eyes sizing her up.

“Hello, Yi Lan. My name is Beiye Xingchen. I’m Jiang Jiang’s good friend. It’s nice to meet you.”

Beiye didn’t treat Yi Lan as a mental patient.

She was very seriously introducing herself, although her tone and expression were relaxed.

Yi Lan did not respond to her words, nor did her gaze leave her face quickly.

Jiang Wenting’s friend was quite pure.

This was her first impression of this girl.

Seeing her ignore her, Beiye looked at Jiang Wenting and joked, “Jiang Jiang, look, Yi Lan really did transmigrate. She’s not even talking to me.”

The word “transmigrate” made Yi Lan suddenly become vigilant.

How did the other person know she had transmigrated?

Could she be one too?

But she had never heard Jiang Wenting mention this person?

However, since Jiang Wenting was so thorough even with things like betrayal, she probably wouldn’t introduce her few friends to her.

Thinking of this, the last trace of curiosity in Yi Lan’s eyes also disappeared.

Jiang Wenting looked at the person on the hospital bed and said in a half-jealous, half-doting tone, “Who comes in and tries to fight for favor right away? I’ve been here for several days, and Yi Lan isn’t even willing to talk to me.”

“So cold? Let me see!” Beiye leaned over, her hands on the side of the bed, her clear and bright puppy eyes examining the person on the bed up close.

“So beautiful,” she praised as she looked.

“Even more beautiful in person than in the video!”

Seeing her half-face almost pressed against her, Jiang Wenting pulled her by the back of her neck to the empty bed next to her.

“Don’t look, you’ll make her shy!”

Beiye sat down on the bed and complained aggrievedly, “Jiang Jiang, you’re so stingy. I just wanted to take a look!”

Jiang Wenting smiled and explained to Beiye, “She really will get shy. Last night, she was woken up by her period cramps. I was rubbing her stomach for her, and while I was rubbing…”

“Jiang Wenting!” Before she could finish her sentence, a sudden voice cut her off.

A rare hint of embarrassment appeared in Yi Lan’s heroic eyes.

Jiang Wenting looked at Beiye.

“See, I told you so!”

The two looked at each other and smiled.

“Oh, right!” Beiye took out a gift box from her bag and handed it to Jiang Wenting.

“Your birthday present!”

Birthday present?

Hearing this, Yi Lan couldn’t help but look over.

Jiang Wenting opened the gift box, and what came into view was a platinum full-diamond Frivole series three-leaf clover bracelet.

The white K-gold set the brilliant diamonds in the corolla, embellishing it with a touch of crystal color, very ethereal.

She liked all things luxurious and ethereal.

This bracelet was even more priceless on the market right now.

Jiang Wenting stared at the gift box for a few seconds, a touch of emotion in her eyes.

“Was it hard to buy?” she asked.

Beiye’s starry eyes curved.

“It was okay. I asked Jinglan to get someone to bring it. Do you like it?”

Jiang Wenting nodded, took the gift out of the box, and held it up to her wrist.

“How much is it? I’ll transfer the money to you.”

“Jiang Wenting!” The girl who was like a star rarely showed an ungentle side.

She glared at Jiang Wenting.

“It wouldn’t be a gift if I let you pay for it!”

“This is too expensive, Beiye.”

Jiang Wenting was touched, but she still felt that she couldn’t afford a birthday gift of 289,000.

Even with her relationship with Beiye, she couldn’t accept it with a clear conscience, just like she couldn’t get used to the fact that the few people in this world who trusted her implicitly.

Beiye took the chain from Jiang Wenting’s hand and forcefully fastened it on her wrist.

“Happy birthday, Jiang Jiang. You are the most, most important woman in my life besides Jinglan and my mom. I hope you are happy every day!”

Jiang Wenting’s eyes grew warm.

Just as she was about to say “thank you,” she turned her head and saw Yi Lan’s eyes fixed on the chain.
