Chapter 32: Drunk on You

Su Yubai let out an unconscious hum, reminding Jiang Yule she was drunk.

They say drunken words are true, so Jiang Yule ventured, “Then, who would you like?”

Amused at herself, her lips curved, eyes locked on Su Yubai’s hazy gaze.

No response this time.
Pulling back slightly, Jiang Yule saw her dazed eyes and asked again, “Who do you like?”

Su Yubai leaned closer, face buried in her neck, whispering, “You…”

Jiang Yule’s fingers on her back trembled, heart racing.

Her pulse pounded like never before, but then Su Yubai continued—

“Who are you? Why ask me this?”

What was she expecting?
Her suspended heart sank.
Patting Su Yubai’s back, she sighed, “Sister Yubai, you’re killing me.”

Untangling Su Yubai’s arms from her waist, Jiang Yule unlocked the car with the keys, guiding her to the passenger side.

“Can you get in?”

Su Yubai nodded eagerly but didn’t move.

Jiang Yule steadied her back with her left hand, bending, right hand under her knees, lifting gently.

To her surprise, she lifted Su Yubai easily.

She’s so light, Jiang Yule thought, not that hard to carry.

Su Yubai’s arms hooked around her neck naturally.

Setting her in the passenger seat, Su Yubai’s arms didn’t let go, even pulling Jiang Yule closer.

Confirming her eyes were closed, Jiang Yule felt Su Yubai’s warm, boozy breath on her nose, lashes fluttering at their half-fist distance.

Grabbing Su Yubai’s hands to pull away, she saw her eyes snap open.

No longer clear, they held a mix of emotions—cool, fragile, almost wronged, as if Jiang Yule had betrayed her.

Unable to meet her gaze, Jiang Yule’s eyes drifted to her sharp nose, then her thin lips, slightly parted, so close.

Her mind flashed to last night’s scene—Qiao Anqing and Huang Siheng in the car.

Shaking her head, she fought to stay clear.
Can’t take advantage of her drunk.

But the sight was too beautiful, like Su Yubai was inviting her.

She might not even like women.

Falling for a straight girl would be a disaster!

Steeling herself, Jiang Yule pulled her hands free—surprisingly easy, as Su Yubai wasn’t gripping hard.

Creating distance, she took a deep breath, buckling Su Yubai’s seatbelt, eyes fixed on it.

Her mind lingered on Su Yubai’s warm, soft touch.

With a click, the seatbelt fastened, and Jiang Yule stepped back quickly.

Closing the door, she took deep breaths outside, heart slowing.

Circling to the driver’s seat, she felt nervous.
She had a license but rarely drove.

Glancing at Su Yubai, head tilted, likely asleep, she relaxed.

Navigation set, Jiang Yule steeled herself, started the car, and drove smoothly.

It’ll be fine, she thought.

Traffic was heavy.
She drove cautiously, passing several intersections without issue.

Easing up, she didn’t expect the car ahead to brake suddenly.
She slammed the brakes, body lurching forward, then back.

Glancing at Su Yubai, her brows were furrowed, eyes still closed.

Relieved, Jiang Yule slowed down, ignoring honks behind her.

Steady and safe.

She reached the parking lot smoothly, parking carefully, exhaling deeply.

Su Yubai seemed fast asleep, brows still knit—likely from the sudden stop.

Jiang Yule raised her hand, pausing an inch from her left brow, then pulled back.

Too intimate.

Opening her door, she went to the passenger side, unbuckling Su Yubai.

Still asleep.

Recalling her light weight, Jiang Yule didn’t hesitate, lifting her horizontally.

Su Yubai stirred, opening her eyes briefly, instinctively wrapping her arms around Jiang Yule’s neck, brows smoothing.

Avoiding her gaze, Jiang Yule locked the car and headed to the elevator.

At Su Yubai’s door, she realized the pose was intimate too.

Efficient, that’s all, she justified.
“Sister Yubai, what’s your door code?”

“Not telling you.”

Pouting, Jiang Yule said, “Fine.”

Glancing at her own door, she decided to try there.

“Stand steady.”
Setting her down, she held Su Yubai’s shoulder, pulling out her phone.

Last time, Su Yubai shared her code, but it seemed random, no special meaning, and Jiang Yule hadn’t memorized it.

Scrolling chat history, she found it.

Turning, she tried it—it worked!

“Sister Yubai, what’s your code mean?”

“Not telling you.”

“Alright, nothing for me then.”

Definitely drunk.

Guiding her to the bedroom, Jiang Yule laid her on the bed.

Su Yubai was docile, but her arms wouldn’t let go.

Bending, nearly touching the bed, Jiang Yule’s heart raced again.

Next second, the world spun—

Su Yubai flipped, pinning her to the bed.

“Y-Yubai Sister, what are you doing?”

Opening her eyes, Su Yubai said, “Who are you?”

Drunk—half-clear, half-confused, and a bit cute.

Grinning, Jiang Yule teased, “I’m your little darling~”

Su Yubai seemed to take it seriously.
Her face drew closer, breaths mingling, Jiang Yule’s lashes fluttering.

Her heart nearly burst.
Was Su Yubai… going to kiss her?

Watching her thin lips approach, Jiang Yule’s eyes widened.
Then Su Yubai’s head tilted, collapsing aside.

Truly asleep now.

Reacting after two seconds, Jiang Yule scrambled off the bed.

Good thing no mistake was made—how would they face each other otherwise?

She removed Su Yubai’s shoes, wet a towel in the bathroom, and wiped her face.

Wiping, she noticed those thin lips.

Instinctively, she avoided them.

Back home, Jiang Yule checked messages.

Top was Ji Zizhen: [Thanks for treating me and Sis to dinner. I’ll bring the embroidery tomorrow~]

[Also, our group has a tradition of celebrating newbies’ birthdays. Night after tomorrow, no skipping!]

She replied: [Cool.]

Considering Su Yubai’s hangover, she likely wouldn’t be up tomorrow.

She messaged: [Sister Yubai, rest well tonight~ Call me if we’re running tomorrow.]

Opening her laptop, she worked on Su Yubai’s paper.
Only “Motivation” and “Results & Discussion” remained.

By 11 p.m., she wasn’t satisfied with “Motivation” and planned to ask Su Yubai for advice tomorrow.

Washing up, she checked her phone—no white avatar in recent chats.

But Su Yingying sent a shipping screenshot: [Birthday gift’s almost here~ Should be delivered to your door. Wait for it~]

Smiling, Jiang Yule wondered what she’d send, a bit excited.

After skincare, she lay down.

Her mind swirled with chaotic scenes.

Lighting incense, playing soft music, and counting sheep, she barely slept.

Next morning, she woke at 5:30—her body clock adjusted.

Checking her phone, no message from Su Yubai.

Probably still asleep.

Setting a 6 a.m. alarm, she woke again—no new messages.

By 7:30, still nothing.

Worry growing, she rushed through washing up, heading out in slippers.

Ringing Su Yubai’s bell twice, she pressed her ear to the door—no sound.

What if no one cared for her last night and something happened?

Deciding quickly, she punched in the code and entered.

The apartment was eerily quiet, lifeless.

“Sister Yubai?”

No answer after several calls.

Heart racing, she hurried to the bedroom, knocking lightly—still no response.

Steeling herself, she pushed the door open—

Su Yubai’s bare, smooth back met her eyes.
