Moments later, Noah looked at Luoyao, quiet as a little rabbit in her arms.
She said softly, “I’ll make you some food, okay?”
“You can cook?” Luoyao mumbled vaguely.
Noah raised an eyebrow, smiling. “I’ve lived over three hundred years. I can manage simple dishes.”
“Oh~ So you’re a three-hundred-year-old auntie~”
“Say that again!”
“Ow, ow, ow! I take it back, don’t pinch my ears~”
Vampires didn’t care much about age.
Even at over three hundred, Noah was considered young among her kind.
Human standards might see her as ancient, but for vampires, she was youthful.
When Luoyao called her an auntie, Noah wasn’t truly bothered.
It was just an excuse to tease Luoyao a bit.
After all, playful banter was a human way to bond, wasn’t it?
She gently lifted Luoyao’s delicate hand from her waist.
Standing, she tucked the blanket around her.
Crouching by the bed, she stroked Luoyao’s pale cheek, whispering,
“How about I make you white mushroom and red date soup?”
White mushroom and red date soup was good for blood replenishment.
It wasn’t meaty, so Luoyao would probably like it.
Half of Luoyao’s face was tucked under the blanket, only her nose and bright eyes visible.
She nodded obediently. “Okay.”
After a pause, she added, “Oh, use my phone to order from the supermarket.”
“If you go out to buy ingredients, you might run into Church people, right?”
“Strange. Didn’t you say you were too tired to think? How are you so thoughtful now?”
“Tch, if the Church leaves you half-dead again, I’m not saving you a second time!”
“No, you will.” Noah smiled softly, her eyes sultry as she gazed at Luoyao.
When a vampire stared at a human, their heart couldn’t help but race.
It was probably a racial talent.
Luoyao was no exception.
Noah’s intense gaze made her unbearably shy.
She tugged the blanket up, hiding most of her already small face. “Fine, fine, I’d save you, happy now?”
“So reluctant, huh?”
“Are you ordering or not?”
“I’m ordering.”
Luoyao glanced at her. “My phone’s probably on the living room coffee table. Password’s 010601.”
“That’s a bit lazy for a password.”
“It’s my birthday! June 1, 2001!”
Noah’s lips curved slightly, teasing, “Children’s Day birthday? You really are my little Luoyao kid.” (TN: June 1st is celebrated as international children’s day)
“I should’ve tossed you in the trash this morning and let you fend for yourself.”
Noah chuckled, gave Luoyao’s head a gentle pat, and went to the living room.
As she moved, the air stirred, carrying her faint, elegant scent to Luoyao’s nose.
Luoyao couldn’t help but lower the blanket, sniffing carefully.
She wanted to savor Noah’s lingering fragrance.
But she worried her sniffing would be too loud and Noah would hear.
‘Damn, it smells too good!’
If she weren’t a vampire, Luoyao would hug her and cuddle her 3,650 times!
‘Ugh, so embarrassing!’
She yanked the blanket over her head, as if to block out the shame.
But moments later, Noah still hadn’t returned.
Was ordering takeout taking that long?
Luoyao lowered the blanket, calling toward the living room, “Noah, not done yet?”
A few seconds later, Noah walked in with the phone, looking troubled.
“What’s wrong?” Luoyao asked.
“I don’t know how to use your phone.”
“Huh?”
Noah plopped onto the bed’s edge, huffing. “Last time I used a phone was ten years ago.”
“Back then, there weren’t all these fancy apps.”
Vampires probably didn’t need phones much.
In their long lives, countless fun things could pass the time.
They didn’t need phones to contact each other either.
Not because of telepathy, but because they didn’t care much for their peers.
Only when the vampire race’s interests were at stake did these proud beings unite.
And ordering takeout?
The whole city was their buffet—why would they need that?
Luoyao burst out laughing.
“What’s so funny? Were you born knowing how to order takeout?”
“Alright, alright, I’ll do it.”
Taking the phone, Luoyao muttered, “So there are things the great Noah can’t do.”
“I can’t do plenty. The one thing I’d never do, even as a ghost, is let you go!”
Luoyao grinned and finished ordering.
Setting the phone down, the two girls looked at each other.
One sat on the bed’s edge, the other lay under the covers.
It felt like, ‘My bestie’s on her period and can’t get up, so I took time off to care for her.’
After a moment of silence, Luoyao recalled last night’s events.
She asked, “After you let me go last night, did you run into the Blood Hunt Church?”
“Yeah.”
Noah said, “More precisely, I let you go because I saw the Church.”
“Huh? Why…”
“The one who hurt me was Suyue, captain of the Blood Cross squad.”
“We’ve got an old grudge.”
Noah spoke calmly. “She doesn’t care much about human lives. If we fought, you might’ve gotten caught in the crossfire. So I played that cat-and-mouse game with you.”
She sighed. “Didn’t expect you to actually run without looking back. I thought…”
Noah trailed off, hesitating to finish.
“Thought what?” Luoyao asked eagerly. “Thought I’d miss you?”
“…”
“Wow, so confident~ You bully and torment me every day. If I missed you, I’d be the biggest romantic ever!”
“Well, didn’t you still save my life? You do miss me.”
Luoyao made a mock-disgusted face. “I saved you this morning because the downstairs trash bin was full. Otherwise, I’d have tossed you out.”
“Would you put me in recyclable or non-recyclable trash?” Noah asked, smiling.
“Non-recyclable, obviously!”
Luoyao blinked, paused, then reconsidered.
“W-Well… maybe recyclable…”
“Why the change?”
“If you were non-recyclable… you might end up who-knows-where. Then I’d have to save you again. Too much hassle.”
Noah froze.
Then it clicked.
This human miss wasn’t just stubborn—she was a tsundere!
