Chapter 29: A Kiss in the Night

This thought, like a tender green sprout in spring, silently broke through the soil, poked its head out, and grew wildly in Song Jin’s heart.

Song Jin’s thoughts were currently adrift.

Although she and Duan Yan hadn’t even established any official status, it didn’t stop Song Jin from fantasizing.

Imagining their future days together, she and Duan Yan would have a wedding.

On that day, Duan Yan would wear a bright red wedding gown, standing in the center of the church, her face beaming with a radiant smile, like cherry blossoms blooming in April.

Every petal would exude the scent of happiness.

Then they would exchange rings and kiss each other’s cheeks.

In Song Jin’s imagination, everything was as beautiful as a fairy tale, but there was one more problem that made her hesitate.

Duan Yan seemed to prefer Chinese culture more.

Perhaps she would be more inclined towards a traditional Chinese wedding.

But this wasn’t a problem.

They could totally have two weddings! They needed both a phoenix coronet and crimson robes, and a Western-style wedding dress!

At this thought, Song Jin’s heart melted into soft spring water, and the corners of her lips couldn’t help but curve upwards.

Her heartbeat seemed particularly clear in the quiet night, each beat filled with a happy rhythm.

Her gaze fell on Duan Yan’s sleeping face.

Confirming that she had entered dreamland, Song Jin silently transformed into her human form.

Moonlight dappled through the thin gauze curtains, sprinkling onto Duan Yan’s face, forming patches of light.

Duan Yan’s long eyelashes cast a silhouette in the soft light.

Her breathing was even, and she slept soundly.

Song Jin couldn’t help but gently trace Duan Yan’s face with her fingertip.

Her finger accidentally touched Duan Yan’s lips.

Duan Yan suddenly let out a soft “Mmm,” a sound like a spring breeze, gently plucking the softest spot in Song Jin’s heart.

Song Jin froze instantly, afraid of waking Duan Yan, but Duan Yan just turned over and continued to sleep soundly.

Song Jin’s heart raced.

She dazedly took the finger that still held the warmth of Duan Yan’s lips and gently touched it to her own, as if they were kissing.

A faint blush couldn’t help but appear on Song Jin’s cheeks.

She hadn’t taken the opportunity to be improper with Duan Yan; this was just an accident.

‘That’s right, heaven and earth can bear witness!’

Sweetness filled the air, mixed with the faint lotus scent from Duan Yan’s body.

Song Jin was utterly intoxicated.

Song Jin was too excited to control herself.

The sweetness and joy in her heart were overflowing.

She couldn’t help but lean down and gently plant a soft kiss on Duan Yan’s forehead, her movements so gentle as if she were afraid of disturbing her beloved in her dreams.

‘Duan Yan, the one my heart belongs to.’

Song Jin thought with satisfaction, changed back into a cat, and curled up in Duan Yan’s warm embrace.

“I’m really done for. I haven’t even warmed my seat, and I have to go.”

He Qing was very helpless.

She picked up her suitcase and placed it by the door.

‘So sleepy. Why did Duan Yan wake up so early?’

Song Jin was held in Duan Yan’s arms.

She found a comfortable position and drowsily fell asleep.

“Really, if you like someone, don’t miss the opportunity.”

He Qing’s words were filled with sincerity.

Song Jin caught these words and instantly woke up.

Her ears perked up, waiting for Duan Yan’s reply.

He Qing’s advice was like an arrow, shooting straight into Song Jin’s heart.

‘Excellent!’

‘If you like someone, don’t miss out! Hurry up and confess to me!’

Even if Duan Yan just said she liked her, she would agree.

However, Duan Yan fell silent.

After a long while, she finally said, “Alright, I know. I’ll talk about it when I have the chance.”

Song Jin screamed anxiously and silently in her heart.

‘What do you mean, when you have the chance! There are plenty of chances!’

‘Please! Confess to me!’

Song Jin was like an ant on a hot pan, anxious yet helpless.

When you liked someone, you really just wanted to be with them openly, to hold their hand and tell the whole world you loved them.

Song Jin’s love was like roiling magma, scorching and intense.

“Alright, I know you have your own ideas. Just don’t forget to make yourself happy.”

He Qing’s words held a hint of unspeakable regret.

She sighed and turned her gaze to the little cat that had perked up in her arms.

The cute orange cat was lying there lazily, as if tempting someone to pet it.

He Qing had never been rejected by a fluffy animal before, so she was very unwilling to give up.

Before leaving, she coaxed, “I’m about to leave. Let big sister pet you.”

Song Jin looked at the approaching He Qing, weighed her options, and decided to let her pet her after all.

After all, this person had just told Duan Yan to seize the opportunity and confess to her.

She could be considered a matchmaker.

She reluctantly lifted her head, signaling for He Qing to pet her.

He Qing was overjoyed, as if she had received an unexpected gift.

“Wow, why are you suddenly letting me pet you?”

“Hmph, it’s all because of me.”

Duan Yan felt a subtle annoyance in her heart.

‘Why did her cat suddenly let someone else pet it?’

Song Jin sensed Duan Yan’s displeasure and, as if she had recognized the wrong owner, immediately turned on He Qing.

“Hiss—”

‘Damn it, two-faced cat!’

Duan Yan chuckled.

“Hurry up and go, before you miss your flight.”

After He Qing left, Duan Yan was in the bedroom reading a book.

And Song Jin, so happy that she couldn’t control it, was spinning in circles everywhere.

Suddenly, Song Jin’s tail brushed against the corner of the hardwood table, making a crisp sound.

“Meeeoowl—”

“So painful!”

Song Jin’s joy turned to sorrow.

She cried out in pain in her heart and sucked in a breath of cold air.

The sound echoed in the air, tinged with a hint of grievance.

Duan Yan was startled by her cry, put down her book, and ran over.

She saw the little orange cat’s eyes brimming with tears.

The teardrops glistened in the morning light like two crystal pearls, pitiful and helpless.

Its fluffy ears drooped softly, and the whiskers that were usually perky and full of life had lost their luster, looking exceptionally fragile like grass blades wet with dew.

The moment the little orange cat saw Duan Yan, it was as if it had found someone to complain to.

It limped towards her, its tail dragging weakly on the ground, making a faint “swish-swish” sound.

Duan Yan’s heart ached.

She rushed over and hugged the little orange cat.

Being held in Duan Yan’s arms, Song Jin smelled the familiar scent and felt the pain from the bump lessen considerably.

Duan Yan’s fingers gently stroked her fur, soft and tender.

The action itself wasn’t particularly intimate, but at this moment, Song Jin felt the temperature in the air rising.

“It’s all this table’s fault for bullying our baby, right? It’s so bad!”

Duan Yan’s tone was one of feigned severity.

Her hand gently slapped the tabletop, making “thump-thump” sounds, as if she were seeking justice for the little cat.

Song Jin meowed in agreement.

Although this was so childish, she liked Duan Yan treating her this way.

The feeling of being loved with all her heart sent a warm current through her, as if she were the only one in Duan Yan’s heart.

In Duan Yan’s arms, she felt as if she were wrapped in a soft down quilt, comfortable and secure.

All her unhappiness completely dissipated.

Duan Yan carefully rubbed Song Jin’s little head, her eyes filled with concern and pity, her voice as soft as falling petals.

“Baby, it doesn’t hurt anymore.”

She then left a gentle kiss on the little cat’s ear.

She lay drowsily in Duan Yan’s arms, her heart beating slightly faster.

She kept replaying Duan Yan’s kiss in her mind, the sweet moment taking root and sprouting in her heart.

After comforting the little cat, Duan Yan received an urgent notice from the film crew, asking her to forward a promotional poster.

She opened her iPad and used Weibo to repost the crew’s latest update about “Tears of Ink and Wash.”

On the poster, Duan Yan was wearing a dark, slant-collared blouse and a black long skirt that reached her calves.

Her image was elegant and dignified, her eyes revealing a hint of unknown sorrow, perfectly matching her character in the drama.

Song Jin’s gaze unintentionally swept across Duan Yan’s iPad.

The screen flashed with the Weibo interface, showing the crew’s update that Duan Yan had just reposted.

She suddenly realized that she hadn’t appeared in the public eye for a long time and didn’t know if her number of fans had decreased.

Song Jin sighed silently, thinking she could only pursue her beloved wife first and then consider her own career development.

Sometimes, a choice had to be made between love and career, and for Duan Yan, she was willing to temporarily let go of some things.

The post mentioned the important actors in the drama.

Song Jin’s name stood out among the veteran actors and quickly attracted ridicule from netizens.

In the comments section, all sorts of voices rose and fell, some sarcastic, some defensive, forming an online storm of public opinion.

[Clueless: Why is Song Flower-Vase in the promotional cast list? I’m dying of laughter. I wonder how much money she paid to get in.]

[Gem Sister: Our Jinjin clearly got in with her own strength. How come in some people’s eyes, it’s just paying money?]

[There’s Only One Truth: Please, don’t let S delay our Yanyan’s filming. She’s so annoying. She has no acting skills, she’s just a total dead weight.]

[Jin Yu: Your Best Actress is just so-so. She has no international fame. Not like our Jinjin, who got an invitation to a fashion event in Country F right after her debut. Yours has been in the industry for so long and can’t even get a decent international award. She’s basically a nobody.]

[Clueless: Don’t talk, person above. Our Yanyan just doesn’t want to. If she wanted to, your idol wouldn’t even have a chance. She won one newcomer award and already started acting like a big shot…]

Soon, the extreme fans of Duan Yan and Song Jin began a fierce online battle.

For the first time, Song Jin deeply felt how powerful the force of fans was, and this force didn’t always bring positive effects.

She was a little worried that this kind of argument would bring unnecessary trouble to Duan Yan.

Song Jin glanced at Duan Yan’s expression and found that she didn’t seem to be angry about it.

Her anxious heart was put at ease.

Duan Yan had never paid much attention to online comments.

She rarely logged into Weibo.

Other than necessary promotional activities and crew notices, she rarely browsed Weibo actively and was not familiar with the various public opinions on the platform.

Faced with those malicious comments, she only frowned slightly and didn’t let them affect her mood.

Seeing someone slandering Song Jin’s acting skills, Duan Yan, who was not good at this kind of debate, simply sent a message to Director Yuan Si, hoping the behind-the-scenes footage could be released as soon as possible.

Not long after closing the iPad, the ringing of her phone broke the silence.

It was her manager, Yang Jun.

When she answered, Yang Jun’s voice was filled with unconcealable joy.

Her excited tone even made Duan Yan feel a bit surprised:

“Xiao Yan, I have good news to tell you!”

Duan Yan was a little confused for a moment.

In her memory, Yang Jun was rarely so excited.

She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of good news could make Sister Yang so thrilled.

Could it be?
