Chapter 31: Fashion Show Fiasco

“It’s an invitation to the fashion show in Country F!”

Manager Yang Jun didn’t keep her in suspense and told Duan Yan directly.

Duan Yan’s face was full of astonishment.

“Really? How is that possible?”

“It’s absolutely true, and it was the organizers themselves who called to invite you!!!”

Duan Yan’s shock was palpable.

“Are you sure you didn’t get it wrong?”

Domestically, Duan Yan’s status in the fashion and film industries was significant, a fact she was quite confident about.

However, in the fashion world of Country F, her influence couldn’t be said to be non-existent, but it could at least be described as negligible.

There were two reasons for this: first, she had never studied at an overseas art academy and had always been deeply rooted in her acting career domestically; second, her appearance was that of a typical Eastern beauty, gentle and reserved, which was a far cry from the bold style championed by the fashion circle in Country F.

Therefore, Duan Yan was incredibly shocked by this news.

“One hundred percent certain! I checked it over and over again, I was so nervous I even called the organizers directly, asking them repeatedly until I was absolutely sure before I dared to tell you this good news.”

Sister Yang’s voice trembled, filled with uncontrollable excitement and thrill.

“The fashion show is next Monday. I’ve already arranged your schedule for you. I’ll notify you when the time comes.”

Duan Yan hung up the phone in a daze, an expression of disbelief still on her face.

Curled up in Duan Yan’s arms, Song Jin could clearly feel Duan Yan’s heart racing.

‘It’s good that you like it,’ Song Jin thought warmly.

She knew that Duan Yan had always dreamed of winning an international Best Actress award, but her reputation abroad was lacking.

Therefore, she had specifically sent this opportunity as a stepping stone for Duan Yan.

As long as she shone brightly at the fashion show, the directors in Country F would naturally not remain indifferent, and acting offers would surely follow.

As for why she was so convinced that Duan Yan could dazzle the entire audience, it was naturally due to her firm belief in the person she loved.

Song Jin happily rubbed against Duan Yan’s arm.

“Mewl~”

Duan Yan awoke as if from a dream and lifted the little orange cat for a round of kisses.

Country F, a nation renowned as the fashion capital of the world, possessed a long history and unparalleled influence in fashion.

This news was a dream opportunity for anyone, and just next week, she would be invited to attend a fashion extravaganza in the capital of Country F.

“Mommy is so happy. I’m going to the fashion show next week.”

Duan Yan’s usually cool eyes sparkled with excited light, her gaze shifting, full of life.

Song Jin’s heart also began to beat rapidly with Duan Yan’s excitement.

Her mood was like ice and snow in spring, gradually melting under the warm sun, becoming soft.

But the next moment, Song Jin’s joy turned to sorrow.

“In that case, what should a little cat wear to a fashion show?”

What?!

“Baby, let’s go buy clothes together,” Duan Yan declared, sealing the deal.

‘Don’t let that kind of thing happen!!!’

Song Jin wailed in her heart.

Duan Yan’s train of thought jumped too quickly, catching her completely off guard!

Trying on clothes was the most painful torture for her.

When she was little, she was always treated like a doll by her mother and Auntie Lan, becoming the protagonist of their dress-up games.

She had had enough of that feeling of being manipulated.

Song Jin turned to run, but Duan Yan’s arms were like iron hoops, gripping her tightly and making it impossible for her to escape.

She could only be carried into the car.

In the car, Song Jin silently prayed that Duan Yan wouldn’t find a shop that sold cat clothes, but clearly, her prayers went unheard.

Duan Yan mobilized all her connections and eventually found an offline store that specialized in custom-made clothing for cats.

The shop’s decor was extremely high-end and magnificent, its location secluded, and few people visited.

Therefore, Duan Yan wasn’t worried about being tracked by the paparazzi.

The owner was a middle-aged woman in her forties.

Her demeanor was elegant.

She wore a dark green cheongsam embroidered with exquisite floral patterns and came forward to greet them.

The owner clearly recognized that Duan Yan was a celebrity, but her professional etiquette was excellent.

She simply smiled and asked, “Are you here to have clothes custom-made for your cat?”

Her voice was gentle, without a single trace of disturbance.

Duan Yan was very satisfied with the owner’s service attitude, nodded, and pointed to the orange cat in her arms.

“What a lovely little orange cat.”

The owner offered a polite compliment and then led Duan Yan to the cat clothing section.

The racks were filled with all sorts of cat clothes, from exquisite little suits to cute little dresses.

Song Jin poked her head out and saw the rows of clothes.

Her heart sank.

As if foreseeing her own “tragic” fate, she lay listlessly on the soft, cushion-covered table.

Her once bright eyes revealed an expression of “utter despair,” and her tail wagged feebly.

‘This is so miserable. How did it come to this? Shouldn’t she be picking for herself first!!!’

‘For… what? Why?’

Seeing her listless state, Duan Yan didn’t suspect a thing.

She patted her head, “Are you tired from the car ride? Mommy will go pick some clothes. Baby, you can lie down for a bit.”

‘If you say we’re not buying, I’ll perform a medical miracle right now.’

Song Jin screamed, but could only let out a “meow” sound.

Duan Yan’s taste was very fixed.

She soon took a liking to a red formal dress.

The main body of the dress was a vibrant red, adorned with sparkling gold sequins.

The edges were decorated with soft white lace trim, which not only made the cat look cute but also added a touch of noble temperament.

The owner said, “Your taste is excellent. This dress looks like it would suit your cat perfectly.”

Hearing the owner’s words, Song Jin silently complained in her heart: ‘What a cliché sales tactic. Duan Yan shouldn’t fall for it, right?’

But Duan Yan nodded, her conviction growing stronger.

She bought the dress on the spot, preparing to have Song Jin try it on.

Song Jin’s vision went black.

‘What style of clothing is this?’

She really couldn’t appreciate it, but since Duan Yan had taken a liking to it, she could only try it on.

‘Fine.’

‘My wife. I’ll spoil her. I accept my fate.’

Duan Yan gently picked up the little orange cat, put its front paws through the sleeves of the dress, and then carefully adjusted the clothes to ensure they were a good, comfortable fit.

Song Jin saw herself in the mirror.

Her soft orange fur glistened under the lights, and she was wearing an ugly red dress.

She hadn’t noticed before, but now she saw that there was a large bow on the back of the dress.

‘It’s over. It’s even uglier.’

Song Jin’s mood was terrible, but for her wife’s sake, she endured it.

When Duan Yan saw the little orange cat in its new clothes, her eyes lit up.

She picked up the little orange cat and gently kissed its ears.

“You’re just too charming!”

“Mommy’s baby is truly super cute.”

Song Jin felt a little light-headed from Duan Yan’s kisses and praise.

She carefully examined herself in the mirror again.

Her bright eyes seemed even more spirited against the backdrop of the bow.

She found that this dress actually suited her quite well.

Although the style was a bit bold, on her, it seemed to have its own unique flavor.

‘Mm, it doesn’t seem that ugly after all. It’s acceptable.’

‘Sigh, life isn’t easy. A kitty sighs…’

“It feels like something is still missing,” Duan Yan murmured to herself thoughtfully.

“Just clothes is definitely not enough. People rely on clothes, Buddhas rely on gold. It’s the same for cats. Once the clothes are on, the accessories can’t be lacking.”

The owner elegantly pointed to the side, where various hats, shoes, and necklaces and other exquisite accessories were displayed.

Duan Yan looked at Song Jin in the mirror and nodded gently, as if she had already conceived a complete outfit plan.

‘Ah, here it comes again!!!’

Song Jin wailed endlessly in her heart.

Duan Yan took a hat and a necklace from the counter and gently placed the small hat on the little orange cat’s head.

The hat was wine-red, made of velvet, its texture as rich and elegant as wine from late autumn grapes.

If it weren’t her, Song Jin, wearing it, she might have even offered a word of praise.

Next, Duan Yan put the necklace on her.

She carefully placed the necklace around Song Jin’s neck, making sure it wasn’t too tight, so as not to make the cat uncomfortable.

After being fully dressed up, Song Jin’s amber eyes sparkled with utter despair.

Duan Yan, on the other hand, was full of a sense of accomplishment.

The little orange cat before her had been dressed up by her to be extremely cute.

The red dress enveloped its body, the folds swaying gently with the little orange cat’s movements, like blooming rose petals.

The matching wine-red hat covered its head, revealing only two fluffy, slightly trembling ears.

The pearl necklace around its neck sparkled with a soft and gentle luster, complementing the snow-white fur on its chin, like the shimmering surface of a moonlit lake.

Duan Yan was extremely satisfied.

Although she didn’t know why the cat seemed a little listless, it certainly couldn’t be her fault for dressing the little orange cat up.

It must be because it had been on the road for too long!

The more Duan Yan looked, the more satisfied she became.

She couldn’t help but take out her phone and snap a picture of the little cat.

Four hours passed.

Song Jin felt all her energy being drained, while Duan Yan was like a hunter who had harvested her spoils, returning fully loaded.

In the car, Song Jin lay drowsily in Duan Yan’s arms, resting with her eyes closed.

In her sleep, Duan Yan treated her like a fragile treasure, carefully placing her on the soft bed.

Song Jin was really tired.

She took a deep breath of the reassuring lotus scent from the bedding and soon fell into dreamland.

Suddenly, she heard a woman’s voice.

‘Something’s up!’

Song Jin had specifically turned into a cat to win over Duan Yan and not let others have a chance, after all, there was no shortage of suitors around Duan Yan.

Although she knew Duan Yan liked her, upon hearing a strange woman’s voice, Song Jin still pricked up her ears alertly, listening to the person on the line with Duan Yan.

“What is it?”

Duan Yan’s voice was as cold as ice, without a trace of warmth, as if the phone line connected to a frozen past.

The weight in Song Jin’s heart lifted.

She was curious about the identity of the caller.

“What, are you even too stingy to utter the most basic form of address?”

“Mother.”

Duan Yan’s reply was incredibly distant.

Her voice was as flat as if she were addressing a complete stranger, without a single ripple of emotion.

Song Jin was stunned.

‘So, the relationship between Duan Yan and her mother isn’t good?’
