“I’m sorry, Miss Adelle.”
Dounia silently uttered in her heart, looking at Adelle’s back as she busied herself by the campfire. A hint of guilt flashed through her mind.
But she couldn’t avoid Adelle in the upcoming action, nor could she conceal it; she had no choice but to resort to this.
“Maria.”
Dounia spoke in her mind.
“…Do it.”
Adelle, who was stewing soup, suddenly felt a profound weariness wash over her. Her body felt soft, her eyelids were as heavy as if pressed by a thousand pounds of rock, and her head was dizzy.
‘No…’
‘How could she, a ‘Dark Kin,’ be so easily fatigued!?’
“Dounia, there’s an enemy!”
She stood up, gripping her dagger. Her vision gradually blurred. Her eyelids were half-closed, and her trembling eyelashes were proof of her desperate resistance against drowsiness.
Adelle quickly scanned her surroundings. With her astonishing night vision, she caught sight of shadowy figures hidden in the distant trees.
‘Is there only one enemy, and is it a nightmare-type?’
‘Their target isn’t Dounia; they want to draw reinforcements?’
“Take this!” Adelle threw the hilt of her dagger towards Dounia. “Run, run north until you see the train.”
“But you…”
“Go!” Adelle shouted loudly. “Call for backup immediately once you get there!”
But Adelle knew well that there were at most two extraordinary guards on a train in total. Although she told Dounia to call for backup, it would probably only bring one reinforcement at most.
Dounia picked up the dagger that had fallen to the ground, cast a deep glance at Adelle, and then sprinted with all her might towards the train.
“Nightmare… stop procrastinating.” Adelle’s vision blurred. She leaned back against a tree and sat down, waiting for the fierce wave of drowsiness to engulf her consciousness.
‘It’ll be fine as long as Dounia runs. My presence here would only make me hesitant.’
Adelle gave a self-deprecating smile.
‘When did she start truly worrying about her nominal subordinate, like a Surveillance Officer?’
In the darkness, a red-haired woman wearing a coarse hooded robe crouched down, gently stroking the flattened wild grass nearby.
“The footprints are fresh; she left no more than three minutes ago.”
She walked out of the forest, looking up across the seemingly boundless plain, a tiny black silhouette slowly running forward.
“Let’s see what you plan to do, pleasure’s attendant,” Kimberley’s eyes were like a vulture’s, fixed intently on the delicate figure ahead.
Dounia ran continuously, and soon she saw the dim yellow lights emanating from the train carriages.
She clearly remembered that her first ‘Malice Perception’ was at night.
To avoid this being an omen from a spiritual warning, Dounia decided to change her previous strategy.
With this dagger in hand, coupled with her ‘Mirror Walk’ ability, she was an assassin tonight!
The protagonist’s luck was enough to ensure she wouldn’t easily die, so Dounia would try to impede her actions.
Dounia didn’t plan to try for a kill, but rather to seize the opportunity to severely wound Alicia Alvarez! The train’s medical and emergency measures would be enough for her to survive, but she would also need more time to reach the Anomaly Bureau.
She needed more time to develop!
It would be best to become a Surveillance Officer, as that would effectively limit Alicia’s actions!
Dounia flipped Adelle’s black suit jacket inside out and carefully folded the conspicuous badge inward. She tightened it, tying the sleeves together so it looked more like a shiny cloak.
She pulled out half a bottle of cold mineral water and poked a small hole in the bottom with the dagger.
Drip, drip.
The small flat surface formed by the water droplets was a mirror.
‘Mirror Walk’!
Her figure instantly dissipated from the real world, appearing in the Reflection World reflected by the tiny water droplet. Dounia clung to the railing, passed through the train door, openly bypassing the smoking guard.
She swiftly moved towards the train’s control room, manifesting her true form again in the shadows during her traversal.
In the Reflection World, everyone seemed a bit blurred, as if shrouded in a thin mist.
Most people didn’t show distinct characteristics, but as Dounia reached the second carriage, she noticed a passenger with her back to her. Even though she wore a hood, Dounia, from the perspective of the Reflection World, could still sense her suppressed, intense, and surging magical aura.
Magic resided in her dark red long hair, like flowing lava. Her abundant hair spread wildly over her slender yet resilient shoulders, exuding a dangerous aura.
Alicia Alvarez!
‘It’s her!’
Dounia instinctively touched her own slender neck; back then… that was where she was instantly beheaded.
Her heart pounded, as if at any second this lunatic would suddenly draw her blade and send Dounia’s head flying.
Drip, drip.
Dounia tried to calm her breathing and heartbeat. If she remembered correctly, Alicia naturally possessed astonishing intuition. If Dounia showed any sign of trouble, she would quickly be discovered.
She took a deep breath and walked forward calmly. In the noisy, stuffy carriage, it felt as if only the two of them remained in confrontation.
The edge of Dounia’s black cloak brushed against a handrail. Alicia slowly raised her head, revealing a pair of blood-red vertical pupils.
Those eyes, like fierce blood-red flames burning in an abyss, were filled with pure, emotionless killing intent, coldly watching the passerby.
Dounia felt the tiny pores on the skin of her back contract, as if being targeted by a dangerous large beast, every piece of her tender skin felt as though it was being licked by a lion’s barbed tongue.
She swallowed a mouthful of saliva, her heart in her throat.
Her mental power was ready at any moment, prepared to enter the Reflection World to dodge danger.
One step, two steps, three steps. Dounia, having brushed past Alicia, still held her breath, not daring to take a single gulp of air.
The uneasy Dounia felt the almost static time resume its flow. She pressed one hand to her pounding heart and slightly quickened her pace.
Alicia slowly stood up from her seat.
And several carriages away, Kimberley, holding a newspaper, casually watched the backs of the two from the corner of her eye.
To avoid being detected, she deliberately avoided looking at their vital areas, only focusing on their legs.
Drip, drip.
A trail of fine water droplets fell from where Dounia had passed. Even without turning back, she could feel, through ‘Malice Perception,’ that astonishing killing intent slowly moving with her, like a dagger steadily approaching her throat, about to slowly draw a line of blood.
Tap, tap, tap, tap.
Dounia’s steps gradually quickened, changing from ordinary walking to a race walk, and then immediately to a jog.
“This person is indeed problematic.”
“From her height, she should be Dorothea.” Alicia sneered inwardly. “Very good, another piece of trash delivered to die.”
The Chalice of Malice manifested in Dounia’s hand. She gave it a slight shake, and the sacred liquid within the cup sloshed.
“I wish for the ability to unlock the train control room door within 1 minute.”
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh—Streams of sacred liquid floated out, merging into Dounia’s slender right arm.
Her eyes widened slightly, and inexplicable knowledge surfaced in her mind. Dounia felt as if she were a skilled artisan, knowingly poking the tip of the dagger into the door crack and gently probing.
This was a skillful operation that only a locksmith could perform, yet it was easily replicated by Dounia.
With a soft click.
The door lock disengaged. Dounia immediately slipped inside and closed the door. Her right hand swiftly moved from her left cheek to her right, like a blurred, misty reflection obscuring her face.
‘Mirror Transfer’!
Immediately after, she threw the lantern from her waist onto the precise instrument panel!
Crash—
The glass lantern cover shattered. Dounia’s pupils constricted slightly, as if her heart had skipped a beat!
In her dream, after this sound, Alicia would immediately enter and attack her!
‘Mirror Walk’!
Her body seemed to be quickly erased by an invisible eraser, and her entire figure appeared in the dark reflection of the water droplets on the ground.
At the same time, Alicia silently burst in.
The door hadn’t fully opened, but she unhesitatingly drew her long sword and swung it at the presence.
In the darkness, a dazzling flash of blood light passed.
And Dounia’s black-robed figure outlined itself again behind Alicia. Her left hand tightly gripped the dagger, her right hand pressed against its hilt, thrusting with all her might towards Alicia’s back!
“Latifah sent me to take your life!” Dounia shouted in a deep voice.
‘What if she’s a Slaughter pathway user! She’s already unavoidable!’
