Chapter 2: Pink Hair, But Another Ex-Girlfriend

The two of them separated their clasped hands after leaving the dormitory building.

“Su Cheng, what do you want for breakfast?”

“Two steamed buns would be good, to eat on the way,” Su Cheng replied casually.

Lin Shiyue continued, “That works out, I like steamed buns too. What kind do you like?”

“Red bean paste bun.”

Su Cheng answered Lin Shiyue’s question instinctively, without any thought, but the next second she felt something was off, her peripheral vision constantly glancing at Lin Shiyue, who was ten centimeters taller than her.

Lin Shiyue’s expression remained calm throughout, as if Su Cheng beside her was just a new classmate she had just met.

This was for the best.

Lin Shiyue suddenly turned to look at Su Cheng.

“I also love red bean paste buns, and I’ve heard that Xihua University’s red bean paste buns are the best, so we’re in for a treat!”

Lin Shiyue spoke with excitement, while Su Cheng felt a subtle unease within.

In those azure eyes, her complex emotions were faintly mirrored: a trace of flutter, a sense of familiarity, and a touch of unfamiliarity.

She was still the same as before, loving red bean paste buns.

“Beep beep beep…”

An urgent horn blast from a bicycle came from behind them. Su Cheng reacted quickly; as soon as she turned and saw a van approaching them, without a second thought, she immediately wrapped an arm around Lin Shiyue’s waist, pulling her to the safe side of the road.

Su Cheng glared at the receding van, muttering curses, then looked back at Lin Shiyue beside her with concern.

“Are you okay?”

Lin Shiyue’s delicate pink cheeks were filled with astonishment; this scene felt strangely familiar.

‘She smells so good…’

“N-no, I’m fine. Can you… let go of me now?”

“Oops, my bad, my bad.”

Su Cheng apologized as she released Lin Shiyue, catching sight of the girl’s slightly flushed earlobes, and said nothing.

Although they were both girls, Lin Shiyue sensed a subtle difference about Su Cheng.

“Thank you. Let me treat you to breakfast.”

“No, no need. It’s such a small thing, not enough to warrant treating me to breakfast.”

Su Cheng patted her pocket, and the smile on her face immediately froze.

“Where’s my meal card?”

She had clearly brought it before leaving this morning; it seemed she only grabbed her phone and forgot her meal card.

Lin Shiyue smiled playfully, “See? You don’t even have your meal card, how will you buy breakfast? I’ll treat you.”

Su Cheng smiled awkwardly, tugging at the corner of her clothes, “Then I’ll have to trouble you. I’ll definitely treat you back another day.”

Lin Shiyue smiled without a word, walking with Su Cheng towards the cafeteria.

When they emerged from the cafeteria, both had buns and soy milk in their hands.

They ate as they walked towards the stadium where the opening ceremony was being held, finishing their buns by the time they arrived.

“Wow, this stadium is really big.”

Although Su Cheng wasn’t new to this place, she still had to feign surprise.

“Of course, the school has nearly twenty thousand students in total; if the stadium isn’t big enough, they won’t all fit.”

Lin Shiyue searched for their class’s seating area.

“Class 1, Department of Science, over there. Follow me.”

Lin Shiyue led Su Cheng to their class’s designated seats, and they quickly took their places.

For the rest of the time, Lin Shiyue busied herself directing arriving classmates to their seats, while Su Cheng sat in the corner quietly playing on her phone, occasionally glancing at Lin Shiyue’s busy figure.

She was still so diligent and took everything seriously.

That’s why she had kept trying to reconcile with herself after their breakup.

A diligent and devoted girl, who wouldn’t like her?

Yet, she had met her heartless, scumbag self.

Su Cheng heard that after Lin Shiyue broke up with her, she never accepted anyone else’s confessions, only quietly following Su Cheng’s whereabouts, occasionally checking others’ Moments to see if Su Cheng had a new partner.

Sun Xiaochen and Chen Xi appeared in Su Cheng’s line of sight, walking straight towards her.

“Yo, slacking off here, playing games?” Chen Xi sat down next to Su Cheng.

“New game, Goddess of Victory, wanna play?”

Sun Xiaochen poked half her head over, staring curiously at Su Cheng’s phone, and casually asked, “The DoroDoro one?”

“Oh, you’re quite knowledgeable,” Su Cheng said, surprised, putting down her phone to look at Sun Xiaochen.

“Of course, I’ve seen a lot of the memes, and that video on DY, what was it again?”

“I’ll try alone ~ a whole day ~ not to be sad ~” Chen Xi mimicked the original video’s tune, humming two lines.

“Yes, yes, that’s the one,” Sun Xiaochen chuckled.

“Good heavens, you’re even singing it.”

Chen Xi nodded, “It’s too catchy; I watched it a few times and only remembered that first part.”

Su Cheng had indeed learned about the game because of DoroDoro, but that was actually a secondary creation, the original character came from the game, Dorothy.

As for whether these two knew that, Su Cheng assumed they didn’t.

“Students, please take your seats promptly. Our opening ceremony is about to begin. After the opening ceremony, all first-year students will remain for our military training mobilization meeting.”

The voice from the loudspeakers quieted the venue somewhat, but Su Cheng’s heart did not calm down.

What must come, will come.

Gazing at the pink-haired, white-dressed host on the stage, Su Cheng’s heart rippled once more.

It was the same scene in her previous life; the first time she saw her, she felt a flutter in her heart.

She was so much like a certain pink-haired girl from a game, always smiling, and particularly cute and charming when she smiled.

She was the number one beauty on the school’s most beautiful girls list, Yin Xuelian.

Even now, sitting in the stands and looking from afar, her beauty was apparent, perhaps even surpassing Lin Shiyue’s.

Yin Xuelian stood under the stage spotlight, her soft, bright pink hair, like newly bloomed cherry blossoms, was the most dazzling focal point.

It wasn’t a color easily replicated by dye; its natural translucence and soft gradients were something no technology could imitate, shimmering with a silky luster under the strong light, falling loosely over her shoulders, making her already fair skin appear even more luminous and jade-like.

Her face was a standard oval, with smooth and delicate lines, and a small, slightly pointed chin.

Her light brown pupils were like amber steeped in clear spring water, the outer corners of her eyes naturally curving slightly upwards, giving her a touch of innocent charm even when not smiling. Her gaze was clear and lively, and her moist, cherry-red lips beneath her exquisite nose were colored with a light red lipstick, adding a touch of maturity.

Just one smile, and many boys in the audience below were captivated by her.

Once, she had also been Su Cheng’s girlfriend.

But why they broke up, Su Cheng herself had forgotten.

After all, it was better for those bad memories to simply fade away with the wind.

For the rest of the opening ceremony and military training mobilization meeting, Su Cheng passed the time by listening while playing on her phone.

Perhaps some people were listening attentively, but it certainly wasn’t Su Cheng.

The mobilization meeting ended, and the time was now 12:10 PM.

Su Cheng and her roommates stayed in their original seats, as the exit was below, and they were seated near the top, needing to wait for those in front to leave before they could.

They used this time to discuss what to have for lunch.

By the time it was their turn to leave, there were only a handful of people remaining, and Lin Shiyue had already left ahead of them.

‘Wait, why am I still paying attention to her?’

‘Shouldn’t we just be ordinary classmates?’

While Su Cheng was rationalizing to herself, she was already being left behind by her good roommates.

She didn’t plan to eat at the cafeteria today, so it was fine not to go with them.

“Oi, white-haired junior over there.”

Su Cheng, who had just stepped out of the stands, heard a voice coming from a corner. Her first reaction was to look around.

The surroundings were empty, without a single soul, except for herself.

“Don’t shake your head around, I’m talking about you.”

Su Cheng followed the source of the voice and saw Yin Xuelian waving at her, her heart giving a sudden thump.

Her mouth twitched repeatedly.

‘This is some bullshit!’

‘It seems the ones I want to avoid the most, I can’t avoid at all!’
