Chapter 36: I am Mo Yuan’s sister, my name is Yun Rou

“No! No! Please! Let me go! I’ll pay you anything! My family is very rich. Just let me go, and I can give you money, lots and lots of money.”

Li Xinyao shouted helplessly, his face filled with fear and panic, constantly begging the woman beside him.

At this moment, he was tied to an experimental table, his limbs firmly restrained, leaving only his head free to move.

Several masked researchers held syringes in their hands, eager to test the latest experimental drug.

These were extreme fanatics, treating their experiments as the most important thing in their lives, capable of viewing a living human as nothing more than a lab rat without any moral hesitation.

They were ready long ago but hadn’t acted yet, waiting instead for the black-haired woman sitting at a distance to give the order.

“Hmph.”

Yun Xi sneered coldly, her voice full of disdain: “Have you forgotten, Young Master Li Xinyao? Your so-called family abandoned you long ago. They sent you into my hands to secure their own peace of mind.”

“And even if I let you go, do you think you could survive after leaving? You’re already a dead man walking, so why not contribute your body to these people’s experiments? Don’t worry, they don’t care about so-called humanitarianism. You’re going to be in a lot of pain.”

After saying this, Yun Xi stood and walked toward the door, waving her hand to signal the others in the room to begin.

The iron door blocked Li Xinyao’s screams, while Yun Xi stared out the window expressionlessly, lost in thought.

Suddenly, a pleasant ringtone sounded. She took out her phone and answered the call.

“Why are you interfering in my affairs? Mom, you know I can handle him myself. I don’t need your help.”

“Since I’m your mother, I can’t let you handle such a dangerous matter alone. Don’t ask anymore. I’ll make sure he’s dealt with properly.”

Yun Xi sighed, her tone softening slightly as she continued:

“You still remember your mother, huh? Xiao Yuan, how long has it been since you last came home? Every time we talk on the phone, it’s barely a few words before you hang up. Now that you have Xiao You, you don’t care about family anymore?”

“In a few days, it’s your birthday. Xiao Rou said she wants to celebrate for you and has already gone to your place. This time, I won’t stop her. You handle it yourself.”

“Ah? Mom, how… never mind. I didn’t expect you to always stop Xiao Rou for me anyway.”

“This time, you are not allowed to send Xiao Rou back directly. She has transferred to the same school as Xiao You. Let her stay at your place for a year. With Xiao Rou there, it can also prevent you from… harming Xiao You.”

There was a brief silence on the other end, followed by Mo Yuan’s teasing voice:

“Fine! If that’s how it is, don’t blame me for punishing Xiao You before Xiao Rou even arrives. I’m hanging up! Bye-bye!”

“Wait, Mo Yuan! What are you doing!”

The phone beeped as Mo Yuan ended the call.

Yun Xi helplessly stuffed the phone into her pocket and stared out at the bustling city through the window.

I’m sorry, Xiao You. Please forgive me, as a mother, for my bias and my guilt toward my daughter.

I was put under house arrest by Sister Yuan.

It was the holiday break. Zheng Chen had originally invited me to the arcade. I had nothing to do and wanted to go out for a bit, so I agreed.

However, before leaving in the morning, Sister Yuan warned me:

“Xiao You, stay home properly today. You are not allowed to step outside for a single moment. If I come back and find you gone, don’t expect to sleep well ever again.”

I had finally been allowed a little outing, and now she…

Never mind. If I can’t go out, I’ll just lie down at home for another day.

I picked up the thick book by my bed, placed it on my lap, turned to the bookmarked page, and started reading carefully.

“The next day, people found him frozen to death, one hand clutching the medal he had earned with his blood, eyes wide open staring at the city he had saved from Gudrian’s tank division over seventy years ago…”

A few hours later, an overwhelming drowsiness struck. I yawned widely and lay back on the bed.

It was already past noon. Why hasn’t Sister Yuan come back yet?

I’m so hungry I can’t sleep.

I’ll make my own meal.

Although Sister Yuan never let me cook, sometimes she let me assist her, so I had learned a bit.

The meals I made weren’t exactly delicious but were edible.

However, when I went to the kitchen, I found all the ingredients had been used up.

Sister Yuan wouldn’t let me go out, and I couldn’t go to the market to buy more.

I thought for a moment and took out my phone to call Sister Yuan.

The call connected immediately, but the line was quiet.

“Sister Yuan, when are you coming back? I’m hungry. All the ingredients are gone. I need to go buy something to eat!”

“No, you cannot go out. Stay home properly. There’s food in the fridge I prepared; just heat it up. I’ll be back before night.”

Hearing my request denied, I felt a little annoyed and rebellious, protesting to Sister Yuan.

“No! I’m going out! Don’t try to scare me, Sister Yuan!”

“You’re not a child anymore, Xiao You. Don’t control him so much. If he wants to go out, let him.”

Auntie Yun Xi’s gentle voice came from the other end, seeming to support me and helping persuade Sister Yuan.

“If you don’t even let him step outside, Xiao Yuan, don’t you want Xiao Rou to find you?”

“Mom, don’t worry. I have my own plans. I’ll take care of Xiao You.”

After speaking with Auntie Yun Xi, Sister Yuan turned back to me:

“Behave. Stay home. Or when I come back, I’ll use my foot to shut your mouth.”

I immediately deflated, reluctantly hung up, and didn’t open the fridge. Instead, I went to Sister Yuan’s room.

If I’m not allowed out, don’t blame me for peeking into Sister Yuan’s secrets.

In her room was a desk with three drawers, only one of which was locked.

I opened one of the unlocked drawers and found a stack of printed papers and a few stapled files.

I pulled out a few sheets and saw that they recorded all my physical stats and social experiences, complete with photos.

Since I came to this home, this data had been updated every six months, identical to my physical exams, except that it also recorded… developmental details.

Sister Yuan, you pervert! She must have measured me secretly while I was asleep!

The social experiences were major incidents I encountered at school over the years, not including anything before I arrived here.

Just as I was about to continue reading, a soft but deliberate knock sounded at the door.

I went to the door and, through the peephole, saw Sister Yuan standing outside with a large suitcase.

Hmm? Sister Yuan came back so soon? Could she really be here to shut my mouth with her foot?

When I opened the door, I saw it wasn’t Sister Yuan.

The girl standing there had a face almost identical to Sister Yuan’s, with beautiful shoulder-length black hair, slightly shorter in height than Sister Yuan, about the same as me.

If not for the clear difference in chest size, she could have been a younger version of Sister Yuan.

“Hello, who are you looking for?” I asked politely.

She sized me up and said:

“You must be Lu You. Hello, I’m Mo Yuan’s younger sister. My name is Yun Rou.”
