The footsteps in the darkness grew closer.
The tall silhouette became increasingly clear.
As the figure approached, Suyue couldn’t help but tense up.
Though she held Luoyao as a hostage, the opponent was an S-rank vampire after all.
She still remembered the battle with Noah in the mall months ago.
That vampire was like silver lightning, dodging two full magazines of bullets with her flesh and blood body.
If not for that final titanium-silver bullet sneak attack, Suyue might have died at Noah’s hands that day—though the vampire claimed she never killed.
But…
Who’d believe that?
A pack of demons living in the night, surviving on human blood.
Killing was nothing; torture was probably routine for them.
At that thought, Suyue swallowed, her fingers tightening on the pistol grip.
When the shadow stepped gracefully out of the darkness, Suyue blinked in surprise.
That… wasn’t Noah!
Yelan Noah’s most distinctive feature was her silver hair, rare even among vampires.
But the person standing ten meters away had blonde hair and red eyes, with a fuller figure than Noah.
“Damn… did Noah really escape?”
This assault, fueled by deep personal grudge, aimed primarily to capture Noah alive.
Then, in front of her, slowly torture her human girlfriend.
Let Noah taste what it felt like to have something she liked stolen and trampled.
But from the assault’s start to now, Suyue hadn’t even glimpsed Noah, let alone captured her.
“Hey, little girl, move your gun away. Don’t point it at my student,” Huangwei drawled.
“Who are you, monster? A vampire treating humans as students? What a joke!”
Huangwei spread her hands. “Does my vibe not scream teacher?”
“Monster’s a monster. Even dressed like a teacher, a vampire treating humans as students is ridiculous!”
Monsters are monsters; clothes don’t change that.
Blonde, red-eyed vampires weren’t rare; Suyue had killed a few before.
This one looked unfamiliar.
But Suyue didn’t take her seriously.
She’d seen high-threat vampires.
Unfamiliar ones were usually weaklings, too feeble to hunt in the city.
“Tell me where Noah is, and I’ll make your death quick,” Suyue said, shifting her gun from Luoyao to Huangwei.
Huangwei frowned, sighing helplessly. “Such classic villain lines. I almost want to play some music to set the mood.”
“Hmph, you vampires are all the same—spouting stale jokes on death’s door. Noah didn’t really abandon you all and run off alone, did she?”
Huangwei yawned lazily, stretching. “First, I wasn’t joking; your lines really sound villainous. Second, vampires are cold-hearted, but Noah and I are different—we often team up.
Lastly, if you really want to know where Noah is, why not look behind you?”
Team up…
Look behind…
Suyue paused, then reacted instantly.
But her brain reacting didn’t mean her human body could keep up.
Turning to aim now was too late.
Her peripheral vision flicked to Luoyao, slumped and gravely injured on the ground.
She swung the gun back toward her.
With Luoyao as hostage, she had leverage to negotiate with Noah.
Otherwise…
Unfortunately, Suyue’s plan fell through again.
As she moved the gun, a faint air ripple stirred behind her.
Then, a short knife glinted coldly in the moonlight, slashing across Suyue’s eyes.
Its speed was so great, Suyue felt no pain at first.
She heard the rip of muscle and bone first.
Then blood sprayed before her eyes.
Followed by a cold sensation in her forearm.
Finally—
“My arm… my arm… ah!!!”
“AH!!!”
After the first howl, pain from her forearm exploded, surging through every nerve.
She clutched her bare stump, kneeling.
Tears and saliva streamed down her face, her throat emitting inhuman roars.
The hoarse screams ignited this bloody night.
Suyue’s lips trembled uncontrollably from the pain.
Losing her entire right arm, the severed end felt like countless ants gnawing at it.
But this wasn’t the end.
Noah pulled the pistol from her severed hand, then grabbed Suyue’s collar, slamming her to the ground.
She aimed the gun at her abdomen—
Bang!
One shot.
Two shots.
Three shots—
She fired eleven rounds into Suyue’s stomach.
Intestines mixed with viscous red fluid spilled from the bullet holes.
Noah rose slowly, flicking blood from her hand, saying coldly,
“This is the most disgusting blood I’ve ever seen.”
Suyue lay in a pool of blood, eyes vacant, staring at the paling sky.
After that near-collapse agony, she seemed to have lost all sensation.
A sign of impending death.
Unfortunately, Suyue’s short life had no warm moments worth recalling on her deathbed.
Her life was kill after kill.
Ending in such misery was fitting—blood debt repaid in blood.
Noah discarded the pistol.
Still furious, she kicked Suyue one last time.
Then turned, running to Luoyao.
“Luoyao! Luoyao, are you okay?”
Noah knelt halfway beside Luoyao, removing her coat to cover her.
Then called Huangwei over to check Luoyao’s leg wound.
Huangwei examined it carefully, then said,
“The fragment didn’t hit bone. Should be fine. A minor surgery will do.”
Noah exhaled in relief.
She lowered her head to look at the girl in her arms, heart aching. “Sorry, I came back late.”
Luoyao nestled in Noah’s embrace, shaking her little head weakly, whispering,
“No one could’ve predicted the Blood Hunt Church’s sudden assault.”
“When did they arrive?” Noah asked.
“About half an hour ago. I was waiting for you at home when I heard noise outside the castle. I went to check, and they started attacking.”
Noah patted Luoyao’s head, turning to Huangwei.
Huangwei frowned, pondering. “Uninvited people can’t find the castle’s location, let alone launch such precise barrages… How is this possible?”
“Probably a traitor inside the castle,” Noah said.
“Possible.”
Huangwei glanced back at the detained vampires. “You take care of Luoyao. I’ll go release the others. Sunrise is coming; we head to the back mountain safehouse.”
“Okay.”
Noah looked at the little fool in her arms, gently saying, “I’ll hug you carefully. Bear the pain, okay?”
“Mm-hmm, okay.” Luoyao nodded obediently.
Noah smiled, supporting Luoyao’s back with one hand, her arm with the other.
But at that moment, a sudden gunshot shattered the brief silence.
The dark muzzle spat flames, the bullet spiraling out in the firelight.
It tore through the air, like a beast breaking free from its cage—
Then, the bullet grazed Noah’s arm, pierced her black coat, and finally…
Passed through Luoyao’s chest.
