“Uncle Chen, thank you for your trouble, having to make a trip this late.”

“Hehe, you’re too kind, Miss. It’s nothing at all. I’m just glad I could be of help.”

In a black sedan, Su Cheng and Yin Xuelian sat side by side.

Su Cheng was supposed to be in Yin Xuelian’s room eating fruit and playing on her phone.

But the drill instructor had just announced that military training would continue tomorrow, so Su Cheng had to rush back to the university.

Still, seeing that Yin Xuelian had a villa like this was quite an eye-opener.

This special day had been quite fulfilling.

But the one who had gained the most was undoubtedly Yin Xuelian.

From the moment they got in the car, Yin Xuelian had been looking at her phone, seemingly at photos.

From time to time, Su Cheng could even catch Yin Xuelian smiling foolishly to herself, which puzzled her.

“What are you looking at that’s making you smile so foolishly?”

“I’m not telling you, and I’m not showing you.”

“As if I care.”

Su Cheng crossed her arms, huffed lightly, and turned her head to look out the window.

She rolled down the window. The air after the rain was exceptionally fresh. The heat of autumn was completely gone, leaving only a bone-chilling coolness.

The car wasn’t moving fast, and the wind rushing in through the window felt exceptionally comfortable as it brushed against her face.

Fortunately, Su Cheng was wearing her own T-shirt, or she would have risked catching a cold.

But after just a few minutes of the breeze, a wave of dizziness washed over her, rushing straight to her head, and Su Cheng had no choice but to close the window.

Leaning back against the seat, Su Cheng began to close her eyes and rest.

Yin Xuelian quietly scooted closer to Su Cheng, allowing Su Cheng to lean on her shoulder.

Her hand inadvertently brushed against Su Cheng’s forehead, and in that brief contact, she felt an unusual heat.

This was not a normal person’s temperature.

Unsure if it was just her own hand, she placed her entire palm on Su Cheng’s forehead.

“What is it, Sister Lian,” Su Cheng opened her eyes slightly, feeling the warmth of Yin Xuelian’s palm. “Let me rest for a bit, I’m a little sleepy.”

Just as Su Cheng was about to pat her hand away, Yin Xuelian immediately stopped her.

“Wait, don’t move.”

Su Cheng quieted down, while Yin Xuelian raised her other hand to her own forehead, checking and comparing three times before finally confirming there was a problem.

“Little Orange, are you running a fever?”

“Huh? Am I?”

Su Cheng looked at Yin Xuelian with skepticism, still not entirely sure.

But hearing her say that, Su Cheng seemed to understand why her head felt a bit hot and dizzy.

Thinking about it now, it was highly likely she did have a fever.

‘This body is so weak.’

“Your temperature is higher than mine. Let’s find a pharmacy near the university later and get you some cold medicine.”

Yin Xuelian held Su Cheng’s slightly cool hand tightly in her own, trying to warm it with her body heat.

Su Cheng waved her hand to refuse, “I have cold medicine in my dorm. I’ll be fine after taking a couple of packets.”

Yin Xuelian moved even closer to Su Cheng, letting at least half of her body lean against her.

“It’s probably because of the rain. And then the air conditioning on the way back, you must have caught a chill.”

“Maybe. I felt a little off when I was showering.”

Yin Xuelian’s tone held a hint of blame, “Then why didn’t you say so? If you had told me earlier, I would have given you medicine before sending you back.”

“It’s not a big deal, trust me.”

Su Cheng slowly closed her eyes, inhaling the faint scent of jasmine, and peacefully drifted off to sleep.

Yin Xuelian frowned, a trace of displeasure flashing across her face, “You always like to act tough, but you never consider how others feel.”

A faint, wry smile appeared on Su Cheng’s pale face, “Sometimes you have no choice. Just be calm.”

“How can I be calm? You’re like this every time,” Yin Xuelian said, annoyed.

Su Cheng didn’t reply. She lifted her head from Yin Xuelian’s shoulder and leaned against the window instead.

The corner of her eye twitched, but she didn’t open her eyes.

In the dark world behind her eyelids, scenes from her past life began to emerge.

Yin Xuelian was right about her acting tough.

Once, near the end of the semester, the student council had to move things. There was a box that clearly required two people to carry it properly.

But unable to find anyone to help, the Su Cheng of that life had insisted on carrying the large box across the entire campus by himself, which resulted in a backache that lasted for days and only got better with ointment.

Yin Xuelian had lectured him for that too.

A gentle but firm force turned her head to the other side, letting it rest once again on Yin Xuelian’s soft shoulder.

A voice, soft and low, tinged with a hint of heartache and pleading, sounded by Su Cheng’s ear, “Could you please consider my feelings a little more?”

Her heart suddenly twitched. The calm strings of her heart were abruptly plucked, like a stone dropped into water, sending out ripple after ripple.

“If you get sick again, my heart will ache.”

The voice, as faint as the buzz of a mosquito, came again. This time, Su Cheng opened her eyes and glanced sideways at Yin Xuelian’s profile.

“I’m sorry.”

Su Cheng’s sincere and apologetic voice came through.

“Why are you sorry?”

“Because I made Sister Lian worry.”

Yin Xuelian smiled slightly, lightly tapped Su Cheng’s cute, upturned nose, and then dotingly ruffled her snow-white hair.

“Silly girl.”

Hearing these two words spoken in such a gentle tone, it didn’t sound to Su Cheng like she was being scolded.

Su Cheng pressed her lips together. She truly felt guilty towards Yin Xuelian.

Besides, it hadn’t been long, and she had already made herself unwell twice.

Always making her worry, she couldn’t help but feel bad.

Perhaps it was because she was used to doing things alone that she had forgotten that no matter how high a kite flies, it is still attached to a string.

Yin Xuelian embraced Su Cheng’s delicate body and sniffled forcefully.

“Silly Little Orange, you have to get better quickly.”

Just as she finished speaking, a warm, moist sensation spread from her lips to her heart.

Yin Xuelian said softly, “How about you take a day off from military training tomorrow? I’ll come take care of you.”

Su Cheng shook her head resolutely and said softly, “It’s fine. I’ll just take some medicine tonight when I get back. Trust me.”

“I can easily handle a small illness like this.”

She said that, but Su Cheng could clearly feel her own cheeks burning up as well.

Yin Xuelian shook her head helplessly, forcing a worried smile, “But I’m still worried about you. What if you faint during military training tomorrow? You fainted last time because of low blood sugar.”

She paused, then continued teasingly, “You’re so lovely and cute. Don’t let that pretty face get scraped.”

Su Cheng gave a small smile and said, “Hahaha, I know. If I don’t feel well when I wake up tomorrow, I’ll ask for leave and rest in the dorm.”

Even after all Yin Xuelian had said, Su Cheng was still unwilling to give up on the idea of military training.

“Alright then. If you feel unwell, remember to message me. I’ll definitely come.”

“Hahaha, doesn’t Sister Lian have classes to attend?”

“I’ve already finished my courses ahead of schedule and came back. I still have a day or two to slack off.”

“This…”

Su Cheng’s eyes widened, her jaw slightly agape.

Didn’t that mean if she had a fever tomorrow, Yin Xuelian would have time to come and torture her?

The thought was terrifying.

She still hadn’t figured out what happened last night and this morning. If she fainted inexplicably again, wouldn’t she be done for?

Besides, when you have a fever, you’re at your weakest. She wouldn’t even be able to run if she wanted to.

Su Cheng was already praying silently in her heart, begging the heavens for a healthy body.

“In any case, I’m on call for you. Don’t think I’m not around. I’m always here.”

Although Yin Xuelian was smiling, Su Cheng didn’t feel that her smile was a good thing.

On the contrary, all Su Cheng could feel was a sense of danger.

‘You’re always thinking about doing bad things, aren’t you?’

“Ha, you’re really something else, Lian.”

‘It’s best to pray that I don’t get a fever.’

“That would be for the best, of course.”

Yin Xuelian maintained her sweet smile, while Su Cheng’s nerves were taut, not daring to think too much.

After a car ride of nearly an hour, the sedan stopped at the university’s main gate.

For the last part of the way, the two of them walked back slowly.

The dim yellow streetlights cast their glow on their shoulders, and the evening breeze carried the scent of their hair, drifting into the distance.

Yin Xuelian hadn’t let go of Su Cheng’s hand since they got out of the car.

It seemed to have become a habit.

This was unexpected for Su Cheng, because the Yin Xuelian from her past life also had such a habit.

According to the old Yin Xuelian, it gave her a sense of security.

They walked in silence, the only communication being the warmth passing between their hands.

In the end, it was Yin Xuelian’s yawn that broke the silence of the night.

“I’m a little sleepy, haah.”

Su Cheng squinted and smiled, “After such a long day, Sister Lian must be tired too.”

Yin Xuelian smiled faintly, looking at Su Cheng’s face illuminated by the lights, “I wouldn’t say tired. With you here, I don’t feel tired at all. In fact, I’m quite happy.”

“Haha, well I’m tired,” Su Cheng laughed awkwardly, because she was not just physically tired, but mentally exhausted as well.

The two of them stopped in front of the dormitory building. Near midnight, there weren’t many people coming in or out, especially on a night when the rain had just stopped.

Su Cheng faced Yin Xuelian. The light shone on Yin Xuelian’s beautiful hair, making it glitter.

“Sister Lian, thank you for today.”

Hearing Su Cheng’s sincere thanks, Yin Xuelian returned a sweet smile.

“I had a lot of fun too. Little baby, hurry back and take your medicine. It’ll be bad if your cold gets worse.”

Su Cheng nodded, her complexion not looking too bad yet.

“Sister Lian should head back soon too. Goodnight.”

“Wait a second, there’s still something left to do.”

Yin Xuelian grabbed Su Cheng, who was about to turn and leave, pulled her into a corner, and planted a kiss on her cheek.

“A goodnight kiss. There, have sweet dreams, wifey.”

Su Cheng pouted, a look of dissatisfaction on her face.

She thought Yin Xuelian was going to kiss her there, and her heart had skipped a beat in fright. She lightly patted her arm.

“Silly Sister Lian, bleh.”

Su Cheng made a face and immediately turned and ran.

“Quite the tsundere.”

Yin Xuelian stood in place, inhaling the lingering fragrance Su Cheng left behind. The smile on her face didn’t fade with Su Cheng’s departure.

She turned on her phone screen. The wallpaper was the wedding photo they had taken today, capturing the exact moment of their embrace and kiss.

A satisfied, yet pathological, smile appeared on her face.

She murmured to herself as she edited a contact name in WeChat.

“Wife, I love you~”
