Let me see, it seems the first delivery was located right within this very residential complex.
Bai Chen’s fingers tapped a few times on his phone screen, confirming he hadn’t come to the wrong place.
He remembered during his inaugural delivery, he’d mistakenly gone to the wrong address, earning himself a one-star rating right off the bat.
Since then, Bai Chen had not made such a mistake again, having become a proficient delivery rider.
However, there was still another problem now, one far more serious than going to the wrong location.
“Mo Qiu, could you please let go of me?”
“Does Bai Chen dislike me?”
“Don’t change the subject; just let go of me, quickly.”
The young woman behind him clung on tightly, preventing Bai Chen from dismounting his electric scooter.
Throughout their ride, her ‘Big White Rabbit’ (TL Note: A humorous euphemism for large breasts) had been constantly brushing against his back, nearly causing Bai Chen to lose focus.
For Mo Qiu, this was an excellent opportunity.
Having finally carved out this precious two-person space with Bai Chen, how could she possibly let him slip away so easily?
‘If it weren’t for me just now, Bai Chen wouldn’t have had to come out and deliver food.’
‘Though he doesn’t say it, he must harbor resentment towards me in his heart.’
Mo Qiu had witnessed countless instances of people smiling to one’s face only to curse behind their back in her previous life; those who navigated the grey areas of society always wore masks.
Mo Qiu had to find a way to make amends, to make Bai Chen forget the unpleasantness of today.
The quickest way to achieve this effect was through physical closeness.
‘No matter how you looked at it, Bai Chen was still a ‘little virgin boy’ (TL Note: A somewhat playful, slightly derogatory term for an inexperienced young man), and he surely wouldn’t be able to resist the allure of my body.’
So, upon hearing his words, Mo Qiu only hugged him tighter, her arms cinching firmly around his waist.
“Mo Qiu, gently…”
Bai Chen grasped her hands, worried they might tumble off the scooter in a chaotic heap (TL Note: An idiom meaning to fall over in a disorderly fashion) but dared not exert too much force.
Thus, this scene unfolded at the entrance of the residential complex: a young man and woman intertwined on a scooter, their cloyingly sweet, ‘pink’ entanglement (TL Note: A humorous, slightly crude expression for an overly romantic or intimate atmosphere) making every passerby stare wide-eyed.
“Mo Qiu, if you don’t let go soon, the delivery will be late.
Then Manager Cheng Xuan will scold us again.”
Scolded? That certainly wouldn’t do.
Mo Qiu immediately released her grip and was the first to dismount.
While seducing Bai Chen with her body was important, she couldn’t continue to cause him trouble.
A relationship sustained solely by physical attraction would inevitably end in abandonment; it was also crucial to make him understand her importance beyond that.
“Let’s go,” Mo Qiu declared, rummaging through the foam box for the order before heading towards the complex gate.
Why was she so eager?
Bai Chen paused, momentarily stunned, then asked, “Mo Qiu, do you know where the customer lives?”
Good question.
Mo Qiu’s steps faltered, and she turned back to him, her gaze a pair of dead fish eyes (TL Note: A Chinese slang term for a blank, unimpressed, or emotionless stare).
Bai Chen chuckled softly, then quickly caught up to walk with her towards the complex gate.
Stopping before the pedestrian walkway, Bai Chen proactively greeted the security guard, noticing the man observing him with a strange look.
“Hello, sir, we’re food delivery, could you let us in?”
The security guard chuckled, teasing, “Has the food delivery industry become so intensely competitive (TL Note: ‘Juǎn,’ a slang term referring to ‘involution’ or extreme, often unhealthy, competition) that you now need to bring ‘benefits’ (TL Note: A provocative double entendre, implying a ‘treat’ or ‘bonus’) onto the battlefield?”
‘Benefits? Is he talking about me?’
Mo Qiu glanced down at her maid outfit, realizing she had been too hasty leaving and forgotten to change.
She felt the security guard wasn’t wrong; she indeed considered this outfit a ‘benefit’ for Bai Chen.
However, Bai Chen’s reaction was far from pleased.
“She’s with me.”
“Oh, come on, I was just joking, why are you getting angry?”
The security guard opened the gate, and Bai Chen actively took Mo Qiu’s hand, leading her into the complex.
They maintained this posture on the way to the customer’s building.
For some reason, Bai Chen walked with such urgency and speed that Mo Qiu had to jog to keep up with his pace.
Mo Qiu looked at their clasped hands; he was holding on very tightly, his palm even aching a little.
But Mo Qiu had no intention of letting go.
Instead, she returned the same strength, feeling the warmth of his palm.
This was the first time Bai Chen had ever initiated holding her hand.
Upon finding the customer’s unit building, the two took the elevator to the 27th floor and knocked on the door.
The door opened quickly, revealing a young man wearing glasses, whose eyes widened slightly, causing him to adjust his crooked spectacles at the sight before him.
“Hello, sir, your delivery,” Bai Chen offered a professional smile, while Mo Qiu poked her own cheek with a finger beside him.
“Why are there two of you? Do you deliver maids with the food orders?”
“No, we don’t,” Bai Chen’s smile vanished.
“Marketing tactics are getting stranger and stranger these days,” the glasses-wearing man remarked, taking the food and bringing it close to his face.
“This isn’t what I ordered.”
Bai Chen’s heart sank with a jolt, and he quickly re-checked the order.
He was indeed wrong; the man with glasses had ordered snacks, but they had delivered drinks!
Mo Qiu was the first to react.
Meeting Bai Chen’s gaze as he turned back, she explained, “Isn’t this the first delivery Bai Chen put in the box?”
“The first one put in doesn’t mean it’s the first one to be delivered!”
Bai Chen pressed a hand to his forehead, unable to suppress a sigh.
“Sir, please wait a moment; we’ll go exchange it right away.”
Bai Chen then pulled Mo Qiu along as he rushed back downstairs, sprinting out of the complex, breathless from the exertion.
Without resting, he pulled out the other order and hurried back.
As Mo Qiu followed him, her small leather shoes tapping, Bai Chen turned back to her.
“Mo Qiu, you can just wait here; I’ll be right back.”
“I…”
Mo Qiu didn’t even get a chance to speak, only able to watch Bai Chen’s figure disappear into the complex.
The young woman leaned against the electric scooter, her deep-sea eyes gazing at the sky.
‘I think I messed up.’
She had wanted to help, but instead, she had only made things worse.
Recalling Bai Chen’s glance back at her when she was alone, she couldn’t help but press her lips together.
‘Such sharp eyes, was he blaming me?’
‘A normal person would surely complain, wouldn’t they? Going back and forth twice wasted so much time; I wonder if there’s enough time left for the remaining deliveries.’
When Bai Chen returned, Mo Qiu expected him to say something, but he merely put his helmet back on and straddled the electric scooter.
It was only when Bai Chen started the scooter that he noticed the young woman still standing beside it.
“Mo Qiu?”
Though her expression was often unchanging, having spent more time with her, Bai Chen could now discern subtle differences.
Her eyebrows were slightly lowered, and she seemed a little downcast.
“Are you alright? Are you feeling unwell somewhere?”
“No.”
“Then get on; we still have several deliveries to make.”
Mo Qiu nodded, sitting on the back of the electric scooter.
‘Why isn’t he saying anything?’
‘Whether it was blame, insults, or even physical blows, none of it mattered; Mo Qiu was accustomed to such things.’
‘If Bai Chen had done that, she could have even used his anger to feign weakness and pity, thus enhancing his favorable impression of her.’
But Bai Chen said nothing, which completely exceeded Mo Qiu’s expectations.
Sometimes, silent fury proved far more terrifying, a flame that, once ignited, would unleash devastating consequences.
Considering the possibility that her standing in Bai Chen’s heart might plummet, Mo Qiu couldn’t help but speak.
“Bai Chen, do you dislike me?”
The electric scooter started, its sharp engine roar assaulting both their eardrums.
It wasn’t until they entered the road that Bai Chen finally spoke.
“Mo Qiu, did you just say something?”
“…Nothing.”
The scooter’s speed was considerably faster this time; Mo Qiu’s side-saddle figure seemed to sway with the wind.
She no longer hugged Bai Chen but clung to his clothes, barely maintaining her balance.
Through the rearview mirror, Mo Qiu watched Bai Chen’s placid face, muttering inwardly, ‘It seemed things were getting rather complicated.’
