Chapter 9: The Dragon Girl I Don’t Like — Used Directly for Experiments

At this very moment, what was Rayne doing?

He was busy handling the massive amount of experimental data he had gathered recently about pure-blood dragons — experiments that he had thought of long ago, ones that had previously existed only in his personal hypotheses.

Don’t be fooled by how lazy and lifeless he had looked before. Back in the day, Rayne was famous throughout Cantrea — almost someone the headmaster would have written into the school’s history books.

If he hadn’t made that utterly humiliating graduation speech, and instead stayed with his mentor as originally planned… he definitely wouldn’t have fallen to such a miserable state.

But that would have gone against Rayne’s life philosophy — if one acts against their own heart, then what’s the difference between living and being a walking corpse?

He simply liked dragon girls. He liked pure-blood dragon girls.

Especially the “nurture-type” ones — he loved those the most.

Of course, that preference came with a hidden precondition.

As the last word of the final page of his experimental record was written, Rayne let out a long sigh of relief.

These days, his main focus had been analyzing the blood samples of pure-blood dragons and…

That mysterious, metaphysical, utterly unscientific phenomenon — gender transformation.

Even after several sleepless days and nights, with a living pure-blood dragon sample for reference, the data Rayne could collect alone — within his limited time and resources — was still far too little.

What? You’re wondering where he got the pure-blood dragon sample?

“Here, your coffee.”

A clearly irritated female voice came from behind him.

Wrapped in layers of bandages and forced into a maid outfit, Yuyan wore an expression almost identical to that of an elf girl glaring at her incompetent teammate.

She placed the freshly brewed coffee on the table beside Rayne’s right hand, holding the tray in a professional maid stance.

Of course, that’s assuming you ignore the look of pure despair on her face.

“Anything else you need, my great and handsome master?”

What was Yuyan thinking as she uttered such shameful words?

Probably something like: I should have just died back then.

Meanwhile, Rayne — the cause of all this — appeared completely calm. He took a small sip of the steaming coffee and commented casually,

“Too much sugar.”

That was just the beginning. Rayne, seemingly venting his frustration over his stagnant research, began unleashing a barrage of sharp and sarcastic remarks toward Yuyan.

“And what’s with that expression? Didn’t I teach you how a maid should manage her facial expressions and tone?”

“Reporting to my master, I’ve only been here for seven days.”

Her tone was calm, but her expression was far from it — she looked furious.

Seven days.

Don’t underestimate those seven days… If Yuyan had to describe what she had gone through during that time, there would be only two words:

Hell itself.

Because this wasn’t physical torment.

Let’s go back seven days.

At that time, Rayne didn’t seem interested in her body at all. When Yuyan was released from his magic, she even tried to seduce him again when that nuisance, Sal, wasn’t around.

But this man’s self-control was incredible. Even when Yuyan was practically throwing herself at him, Rayne remained calm — even critiquing her body with the detached tone of an art critic.

“For ordinary people, your figure might be considered attractive. But to me, it’s a bit… excessive.”

“Sometimes, having parts that large isn’t necessarily a good thing. Doesn’t it affect your ability to walk properly?”

“You—!”

“Oh, right, I forgot.” Rayne smacked his forehead. “You don’t walk much anyway, do you? You just stay in your nest and wait for others to come to you…”

“You bastard!”

Enraged, Yuyan’s body erupted with searing dragonfire. She was about to leap forward and grab him for a self-destructive explosion.

But the moment she moved, countless ice spikes appeared out of thin air, freezing her in place.

Even as the dragonfire blazed around them, the ice didn’t melt in the slightest — proof of Rayne’s enormous magical reserves.

It was obvious: Yuyan’s defeat had been inevitable. Even at her peak, she wouldn’t have matched Rayne in magic.

Not to mention…

Yuyan swallowed hard, her eyes glancing down at the razor-sharp ice spike hovering less than an inch from her fragile throat.

A real warrior knows when to bow to survive!

“I–I surrender!”

The ice shattered instantly — and with it began Yuyan’s nightmare.

Forced into a maid outfit that only human women wore, treated like a servant, and even used as a test subject during experiments.

Blood draws, scale extractions… you name it.

And whenever she made the slightest mistake, Rayne would punish her.

And this “punishment” was literal.

When Yuyan first heard him say “punishment,” she thought he was finally going to act like a man — she was even preparing poses in her head — but Rayne’s so-called punishment turned out to be…

“Oh dear, so careless again?”

“This crystal sphere is expensive… What? Not your problem, you say?”

“Then I’ll have to punish you — so you’ll remember to take responsibility for your actions.”

“I’ll draw one extra tube of blood today.”

Cruel? Maybe. But effective.

After being drained a couple of extra times, Yuyan stopped slacking off entirely.

Now, she was terrified of the day Rayne might suddenly “feel inspired” and draw more blood or pluck out more scales.

Sure, she was a dragon. A pure-blood dragon.

But that didn’t mean her blood was for casual play, damn it!

After so many rounds of this, Yuyan now felt weak just looking at a syringe.

And so, today again, Yuyan stood there in her maid costume — nodding blankly, letting Rayne’s words go in one ear and out the other.

Until Rayne suddenly asked,

“By the way, Yuyan,” he said, unusually serious, “I’m guessing you’ve experienced gender transformation before, haven’t you?”

For a pure-blood dragon, that was an extremely private question. But since Rayne already had the blood tubes ready, she had no choice but to answer honestly.

When he learned that Yuyan was originally a male dragon, Rayne stroked his chin and muttered thoughtfully,

“No wonder…”

Then he told Yuyan to pack her things — they were going out.

When she asked where, Rayne smiled faintly and said,

“To try our luck. I think a certain little one is waiting for me at the old place.”

From the looks of it, Yuyan was going to be a very important bargaining chip in his next “negotiation.”

Better make sure she doesn’t escape.
