Join the ServerAfter Bai Jiujiu knocked Zhang Feng unconscious, she tentatively prodded his rigid body with her foot. Only when she was certain he was completely out did she finally relax.
If he hadn’t been knocked out, she would have been the one in trouble.
Immediately, Bai Jiujiu entered her favorite phase: looting.
She found a storage ring and three magic treasures.
A sharp intake of breath escaped her lips. ‘Is this the difference between the genuine Town Yuan Flag and my replicated one?’
One had a master, the other did not.
It was a pity she couldn’t use it, otherwise, with the main flag, she could have escaped. That left her with only two usable magic treasures.
The storage ring contained a considerable amount of diamonds and jewels, along with many gold ingots. Among the treasures were several famous calligraphy and paintings, two cultivation techniques, and a few bottles of pills.
Bai Jiujiu had stripped Zhang Feng down to his underwear, yet she had only managed to retrieve this meager collection. Excluding the Town Yuan Flag, which she couldn’t use and had already replicated, her true haul amounted to just two magic treasures.
She had initially expected to find a trove of incredibly powerful magic treasures, which she could then replicate or master to gain self-preservation abilities, or even become invincible with a bit of luck.
Still, it wasn’t entirely without gain.
Money, to her, was merely icing on the cake, but it could serve as travel expenses for her search for Su Ling’er once she escaped.
She considered it compensation from Zhang Feng. After all, he had falsely accused her of being the culprit, and it was his fault she had been mistaken for a fox demon!
She decided to ask Tong Qiu about the pills and cultivation techniques later.
The golden bead was something Bai Jiujiu couldn’t master at the moment; she could only replicate a fake version before returning it to its original place.
The other item was the sword Zhang Feng had held, known as the Flowing Shadow Sword.
Bai Jiujiu reached out, attempting to see if she could master this magic treasure. However, the sword struggled fiercely to break free from her grasp, falling to the ground. It adamantly refused to be used by her.
‘I am the Flowing Shadow Sword, a demon-subduing magic treasure, a righteous blade that eradicates evil. How could I possibly allow a filthy demon to wield me?’
‘Having recognized Zhang Feng as my master, I shall follow him for life!’
Before Bai Jiujiu could attempt to master it again, the Demon Binding Rope on her wrist actively volunteered. It flew from her hand, swiftly binding the Flowing Shadow Sword and bringing it before her.
The Flowing Shadow Sword struggled desperately, but it was futile; the Demon Binding Rope only tightened its hold.
Bai Jiujiu watched the interaction between the two magic treasures with a touch of exasperation.
‘You were born at the same time as me, a demon-subduing magic treasure, and my dear friend. Why do you aid evil?’
‘Come, Master, let’s brainwash this ignorant magic treasure too!’
Although Bai Jiujiu couldn’t discern any audible dialogue between the magic treasures, she could clearly understand their thoughts.
A slight twitch played at the corner of her lips. Regarding the Demon Binding Rope, which had so readily betrayed its companion for personal gain, she wasn’t sure whether to praise it or… well, just praise it. It truly lived up to its reputation as a magic treasure that abandoned its former master to follow her after a mere touch.
However, the word ‘brainwash’ felt a bit odd. Bai Jiujiu considered herself quite democratic.
She gripped the hilt of the Flowing Shadow Sword with her right hand, attempting to actively activate her ‘mastery’ ability for the first time.
Immediately, a faint green glow emanated from Bai Jiujiu’s right hand. The Flowing Shadow Sword’s blade began to tremble incessantly, trying to wrench itself free from her grasp, but the Demon Binding Rope held it securely.
‘Keep your filthy body away from me! I am a demon-subduing sword; I will never yield to vile demons like you!’
Two seconds later…
‘Master! Please feel free to use Shadow s*ave’s body to your heart’s content!’
The Flowing Shadow Sword eagerly allowed Bai Jiujiu to hold it, actively attaching its scabbard to her waist. Its now nearly pinkish blade pressed intimately against Bai Jiujiu’s thigh.
The Demon Binding Rope, meanwhile, wrapped itself around her other leg, rubbing against it obsequiously.
‘Why do I feel so much like a villain from those novels I read in my previous life?’
“Let’s head back first…”
Bai Jiujiu’s lips twitched a few times. With a helpless sigh, she transformed the Demon Binding Rope back into a bracelet and sheathed the Flowing Shadow Sword. Now, only one matter remained: how to deal with Long Zhi.
Long Zhi barely managed to open her eyes. She could feel her body reaching its absolute limit. Although the rampaging souls had ceased their violent outbursts, they still wreaked havoc within her, and the disintegration of her physical form continued.
The magic treasure earlier had only offered temporary relief. Even if she were to regain her demonic power now, it would be futile.
“Your Majesty, you can eat me, please, just a bite. Peel off my skin and use my fox bones to make soup! Me?”
As her soul returned to her body, Long Zhi’s consciousness once again plunged into chaos.
Her upper and lower jaws were dislocated, her expression alternating between monstrous and pathetic.
Yet, amidst the turmoil, Long Zhi struggled to voice her plea.
This, to some extent, accelerated the fusion of the souls with Long Zhi’s own.
As a demon, she recalled her past actions and felt she had wronged Bai Jiujiu. Her only wish was for Bai Jiujiu to save her children, while she herself accepted her fate.
However, all the vengeful souls she had absorbed desperately clung to life; they wouldn’t let go of any chance to survive. These resentful spirits furiously merged with Long Zhi’s soul, altering her own thoughts and amplifying her deepest inner emotions.
“Please, I beg you, Your Majesty, save me! I don’t want to die; I still want to kill all the unfaithful men in the world!”
“Your Majesty, save me! I just want to live properly, just as you did three hundred years ago…”
“You are a demon, and I am a demon. No, I am human! But you wouldn’t stand by and watch me die, would you?”
‘Just as you saved me three hundred years ago in the snow with your demonic power.’
Deep down, Long Zhi had always hoped Bai Jiujiu would extend a helping hand, just as she had in the past.
“I’m sorry, all I can do is ensure you won’t suffer a painful death. As for the vengeful souls in your body, I will use the Spirit Gathering Pearl to release them.”
“Why!”
“Why won’t you save us! You clearly saved me in the past!”
“That’s right, you’re just like them, just like them! You discriminate against me because I’m a woman/Long Zhi, isn’t that it!”
“You’re all the same! All the same!”
Long Zhi’s body surged with black resentful energy, howling as it whipped across Bai Jiujiu’s face. Yet, she merely shook her head calmly, ignoring the chilling, bone-piercing resentment, and slowly walked towards Long Zhi.
“In the past, you were a child, and I would bear the consequences for your mistakes. But now you are an adult, and you must pay the price for your own actions.”
This was Bai Jiujiu’s philosophy: as a demon, a child’s errors would be borne by her, their ‘guardian.’ But once they matured, Bai Jiujiu would no longer shelter them.
She protected her own but never spoiled them. Otherwise, Thousand Miles Cloud Mountain would have long since fallen into chaos.
“No… No! No!”
“Your Majesty! You can’t, you can’t… You must save me; we don’t want to die!”
“We don’t want to die! We just want to live!”
“Farewell…”
Bai Jiujiu placed her hand on Long Zhi’s head. Lowering her gaze, she forcefully channeled the demonic energy from her body into Long Zhi’s.
Just as she had three hundred years ago…
