“Gentlemen, I love pure-blood dragon girls.”

At the graduation ceremony of Canteria Magic University, the graduating student — Rein Cage — said this during his commencement speech.

“Red dragons, crystal dragons, elemental dragons…”

“Dragon girls are the beings that most perfectly embody the law of perfection in magical creation.”

“Not only that, but through my research, I’ve found that girls transformed from pure-blood dragons into human form are the most suitable beings to become wives.”

“After all, what man wouldn’t want a life partner with maxed-out physical strength, maxed-out magic resistance, and a simple personality that obediently follows her desires?”

“So, I love dragon girls — pure-blood dragon girls.”

When the speech ended, the entire hall erupted in chaos.

Some wept bitterly while clutching their confession letters.

Some covered their eyes and shouted “By the God of Magic!”

And, of course, there were also those who whistled and jeered, enjoying the commotion.

As for his mentor, sitting in the front row — a grand archmage respected by all in the academy — he commented thus:

“If that child ever learns that pure-blood dragons are extinct, will his magical heart shatter?”

As it turned out, the archmage’s concern was not unfounded.

Shortly after the ceremony, upon hearing that the corpse of the last pure-blood dragon had been found in the Eternal Forest, Rein’s magical heart truly broke — and so did his spirit.

After hastily bidding farewell to his mentor in a letter, Rein claimed he would go into seclusion to further his magical studies, and built a wizard’s tower far from the capital.

No one knew his true reason for doing so.

He sealed all contact, faded from public view, and was eventually forgotten.

From then on, students at the Magic Academy only remembered that once, there had been a graduate who bravely confessed his “preferences” on stage.

They did not know that this same man had once been the academy’s most brilliant rising star.

What a lamentable tale.

But… the protagonist of this story is not the magical genius named Rein Cage.

It is a boy who lived — and died — in another world entirely, one without swords or sorcery.

“I swear, I didn’t see him! I thought it was just a speed bump!”

So tired. He had never felt so tired before.

“Those big trucks have terrible blind spots! He dashed out from the side — what was I supposed to do?”

And yet, strangely, he also felt incredibly light.

As though floating in water… or drifting among the clouds.

“Officer, I’m just a poor worker. I’ve got parents and kids to feed—”

So this is what dying feels like?

“Well, there’s nothing more to be done. Take it up with my insurance.”

……

So that’s it? Just dead, like that?

Doesn’t feel… so bad, actually.

“There were no emergency contacts found in the victim’s phone.”

“Then check for friends, or a boss. Anyone reachable in his message history — try them all.”

At least it’s better than that lonely, exhausting life he’d been living.

“Wait! Blood pressure’s dropping, pupils dilating!”

“We’re losing him! Hurry, prepare—”

That’s enough.

Resigned, the boy lying on the stretcher slowly closed his eyes.

……

However, the world after death was not as peaceful as he imagined.

If before death felt like floating on the surface, then now it was more like sinking beneath the water.

Enveloped by some kind of liquid, half-suffocating… before he even regained full consciousness, his body was already struggling instinctively.

But—

So strange…

It felt as if invisible walls surrounded him, constraining every movement, even preventing him from stretching his limbs.

Gradually, his awareness returned.

Darkness all around — and yet, through his skin, he could clearly feel that he was completely submerged in a thick, viscous liquid.

Realizing this, discomfort filled his mind, and instinctive desperation urged his body to struggle harder.

He wanted to live.

It wasn’t even a conscious thought — just a primal impulse from the body itself.

He had to get out.

His limbs strained harder and harder, until finally, a faint light appeared on one side.

Rebirth.

At the moment the “wall” cracked, those two words suddenly surfaced in the haze of his mind.

Before he could ponder them, the wall burst apart, and the liquid spilled out.

Without time to check his body, he inhaled his first breath of fresh air.

But what came into view next was a massive figure that filled his entire sight.

A dragon.

Enormous as a mountain, its scales shone with molten gold — a creature he had only ever seen in fantasy stories.

He tried to speak, but realized that his previous struggle had drained all his strength.

Even moving his mouth felt impossible.

And that was when he noticed something was wrong with his body.

He was no longer… human.

Not humanoid at all — but more like… an animal.

An animal that walked on four limbs.

“It truly hatched… Unbelievable.”

The golden dragon roared — or perhaps, spoke.

While he was still dazed, the colossal creature reached out with a massive claw and gently touched his head.

A golden light flowed from its claw into his body.

A feeling of warmth enveloped him — tender, soothing, like being held in a loving embrace.

The dragon roared again — but this time, he understood the meaning behind the sound.

“Welcome to this world, little one.”

(Descended? Little one?)

Since there was no one else around, he assumed the dragon was speaking to him.

Thanks to the golden light, he could now comprehend the meaning behind dragon speech — though he still had no idea how to control his new body enough to respond.

He really… wasn’t human anymore.

“From this moment on, you shall be one of the noble dragonkind.”

For some reason, the dragon’s voice no longer felt deafening.

Instead, it sounded majestic — and filled with gentle affection.

“I shall be your mother, and guide you along the path you are meant to walk.”

Was this huge creature really his mother?

Hearing that, excitement welled up in his chest.

Reborn in another world as the child of a grand and powerful golden dragon…

Then surely, the next step would be to soar high — to live out all the adventures he’d only ever dreamed of before.

Adventures! Battles! Leveling up!

Maybe even becoming the hero who saves the world!

………

Saar — that shall be your name. Even if you one day take on a female form, this name will remain yours for life.”

Eh?

He froze.

And then, his dragon mother spoke again — revealing the truth.

“This is your destiny: to become the last female of the dragon race.

To carry the spark of life that will ensure our kind’s survival.”

To become… female?!
