Noah slowly opened her eyes.

She lay on an unfamiliar bed.

The room was dimly lit, heavy curtains drawn tight, blocking out the last rays of sunset.

She sniffed the air, thick with the scent of blood.

But judging by the furniture, this was a human’s home.

Why would a human’s home… reek so strongly of blood?

Noah gently tapped her temple, her memory flashing back to last night.

She and Suyue had clashed in the supermarket.

Though she easily overpowered Suyue, she was ambushed by the Blood Cross squad.

Those “bone-titanium silver” bullets pierced her chest.

They suppressed her healing ability and carried a toxin that burned like fire in her heart.

After taking the shot, Noah leaped out a window, barely escaping.

She could feel her life slipping away, her body growing colder.

She needed a safe place to rest.

And someone who wouldn’t harm her in her weakened state, someone who could tend her wounds.

Her battered body couldn’t make it back to the castle.

So… in this vast city, she had to find someone who could help.

And that person, without a doubt, was Luoyao.

Noah didn’t know how she’d managed to reach Luoyao’s doorstep.

What drove her broken body wasn’t just her will to survive.

It was the desperate need to see that girl one last time before dying.

If they were truly parting, how could a rushed kiss be enough?

As the last sliver of sunlight sank below the horizon, the night’s arrival rekindled her body.

Noah looked down at her chest.

Bandages were wrapped tightly around it.

Someone had clearly given her emergency care.

But simple bandaging couldn’t fully heal a wound from bone-titanium silver, could it?

Noah slowly turned her head to the sleeping girl beside her.

Her petite frame was shrouded in the dim light.

Her breathing was faint but steady.

Her delicate brows were slightly furrowed, adding a touch of melancholic beauty.

Her left wrist was also bandaged, blood faintly seeping through, staining it red.

“Silly girl…”

Wounds from bone-titanium silver didn’t heal easily.

But with enough blood, a vampire could activate their brute healing ability.

Given the situation, Noah could guess what happened after she collapsed at Luoyao’s door.

This girl, who swore she didn’t want her blood taken, had cut her own wrist.

She used her blood to help Noah recover.

Luoyao’s body was already frail.

Losing more blood meant she’d need weeks to recover.

Noah carefully leaned closer, their slender bodies pressed close on the small single bed.

She gently placed a hand on Luoyao’s waist, feeling the rhythm of her breathing.

In the faint light, Noah studied the face so close to hers.

Pure and captivating, the kind of cute that made you want to pinch her cheeks.

She leaned in slowly, placing a soft kiss on Luoyao’s furrowed brow.

“Mmm… ngh…”

Luoyao let out a vague murmur in her sleep.

She shifted slightly, unconsciously raising a hand to wrap around Noah’s slender waist.

This caught Noah off guard.

“Getting… this bold, huh, human miss?”

She muttered, trying to ease Luoyao’s hand off her waist.

But seeing Luoyao’s pitiful expression, Noah’s heart softened.

“Fine, hug me if you want. You saved my life, and I’ve got nothing to repay you with.”

Moments later, Luoyao stirred awake.

“Noah… Noah, you’re okay?!”

The moment her eyes opened, she saw that familiar silver hair swaying before her.

She lifted her head, gazing at Noah’s profile.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks to you.”

Noah often used this gentle, indulgent tone when chatting with Luoyao.

But now, her voice and demeanor were even softer.

That weak yet sultry voice made Luoyao’s ears tingle.

“Why… did you save me?”

Noah couldn’t help but ask.

In her moment of mortal danger, Luoyao was the first person she thought of.

Beyond their brief but intimate master-servant bond, Noah had considered many factors.

But she wasn’t certain Luoyao would actually save her.

After all… this girl’s mind was full of escaping her (or so she seemed).

It was a gamble.

The stake was Noah’s life.

But her dear human miss hadn’t let her down.

Luoyao buried her face in Noah’s chest, her voice low and muffled.

“I’m… ugh… so tired right now. I don’t want to think or answer anything.”

When the brain lacks oxygen or blood, it enters a “giving up” state.

As Luoyao said, she didn’t want to think or deal with anything.

Even breathing felt exhausting.

All she wanted was to be held by Noah, to breathe in her pleasant scent, and sleep again.

Seeing the girl in her arms so worn out, Noah didn’t press further.

She gently stroked Luoyao’s soft hair.

She couldn’t help but wonder why she’d won this gamble with her life.

Luoyao had her chance at freedom.

She’d escaped the vampires’ grasp.

She could’ve ignored Noah, left her to die.

Yet she chose to help.

Why?

“Stubborn human miss, have you… actually fallen for me?”
