“It was my mistake to punish you without confirmation.”

Finally, under the stern gaze of the Disciplinary Director, Wang Li reluctantly apologized.

While her apology sounded like a cow being forced to drink water, Qiao Xia found it acceptable.

Regardless of her reluctance, the class teacher had apologized, and that was an unchangeable fact.

Whether the class teacher was willing or not was irrelevant. Qiao Xia hadn’t held out hope for a sincere apology anyway; only the final outcome mattered.

Standing beside Qiao Xia, Zhou Li wore a look of utter disdain. He thought it pathetic that the ‘old harridan’ of a class teacher, despite her age, offered such a perfunctory apology.

He had once considered her a worthy opponent, but now she seemed nothing more than a petty character.

They said a true man knew when to yield and when to stand firm, capable of achieving great things. Compared to the old harridan’s petty-mindedness, it was no wonder her schemes to expel them from the elite class always failed.

Still, his brother Qiao Xia was truly formidable; his luck in turning misfortune into fortune was simply incredible.

He could easily be a good luck charm.

“Alright, pay more attention next time, and let’s resume class! If I find students disrupting class order again, you won’t be a class teacher anymore.”

After hearing Wang Li’s obedient apology, the Disciplinary Director nodded in satisfaction. Following a final threat, they offered a few words of comfort to Qiao Xia before finally departing.

Subsequently, under Wang Li’s furious gaze, Qiao Xia and Zhou Li swaggered back into the classroom.

The moment he entered the classroom, Qiao Xia immediately glanced towards Duan Yulan’s seat. As he had anticipated, she wasn’t there.

Duan Yulan was not in class.

Duan Yulan was no ordinary student; she was either at various award ceremonies or en route to one. Despite her frequent absences, her academic performance remained steadfastly at the top of her grade, with impossibly high scores in every subject.

This led her teachers to beam with benevolent smiles whenever her name was mentioned.

Under such circumstances, Duan Yulan’s absence from class was commonplace. In fact, it would be surprising if she attended school consistently.

Yet, Qiao Xia had seen Duan Yulan at the school gate that very morning, leading him to believe she would be in class today.

Qiao Xia’s questions remained unanswered. Now, it felt as though his hands and feet were bound while someone tickled him with a feather, making him restless.

He desperately wanted to uncover the full story behind his ‘golden finger’ ability.

“Qiao Xia actually came back unharmed? What exactly did Li Lin Guan want him for? Wasn’t it about fighting over Duan Yulan?”

“You ask me, who am I supposed to ask? But Qiao Xia usually has no presence in class, so people don’t pay much attention to him. Yet, his background must be incredibly strong!”

“Forget Li Lin Guan calling him out; did you see how openly biased the Disciplinary Director was towards him just now?”

“How could I not see it? Even the class teacher was left with a terrible expression, but the Disciplinary Director still forced her to apologize!”

“Tsk, tsk, there’s more drama to come. The class teacher will definitely make things difficult for Qiao Xia from now on.”

“Where’s Goddess Duan? It would be even livelier if she were here!”

Just after Qiao Xia took his seat, the surrounding students couldn’t stop whispering, and their words, unfortunately, reached his ears, leaving him quite helpless.

Regarding his classmates’ speculations, Qiao Xia wanted to tell them he had no special background whatsoever. If he did, he wouldn’t still be stuck here.

Initially, Qiao Xia had found the Disciplinary Director’s intervention strange. However, upon closer reflection, he could now surmise the Director’s true intentions.

The incident where he helped Li Lin Guan avoid trouble behind the teaching building was neither major nor minor. If it were to be exposed, the school would undoubtedly face significant problems.

It seemed the Disciplinary Director didn’t want him to reveal the incident, which was why they had been so accommodating.

Qiao Xia didn’t view this as the world being dark or unfair. To gain benefits, one often had to pay a certain price.

Since the Disciplinary Director had helped him resolve the class teacher’s harassment, Qiao Xia felt he should reciprocate.

Besides, Qiao Xia had never intended to pursue the matter further in the first place.

It was simply too much trouble. He would rather spend that time researching his ‘golden finger’.

“Ah, why is the table shaking?”

Just as Qiao Xia was pondering his ‘golden finger,’ the teaching building began to shake violently. Many students sprang from their seats in alarm, a single word flashing through their minds.

Earthquake!

Having lived in this city for so many years, this was the first time they had experienced such a violent earthquake.

The shaking was so intense that they couldn’t even stand steadily.

“Everyone, quickly leave the classroom and gather in the open space downstairs! One by one, no pushing or shoving. It’s just a minor earthquake!”

In contrast to the students’ panic, Class Teacher Wang Li remained remarkably calm. After quickly issuing instructions, she immediately directed the students to evacuate the classroom.

Later, as all the students from First High gathered in the open space downstairs, they felt the earthquake gradually subside, their hearts filled with various emotions.

They wondered what exactly was happening lately. Natural disasters and man-made calamities were occurring all over the country.

Besides earthquakes, there were numerous typhoons and tsunamis. Forest fires, floods, mudslides, and more were also rampant.

This year truly felt like a year of endless misfortune.

Furthermore, some people were widely propagating absurd claims online about the imminent end of the world and the extinction of humanity, causing considerable panic.

The most direct consequence was the widespread hoarding of supplies.

Sales of long-lasting water and food products soared on the internet.

However, others paid no mind to these developments, believing them to be mere overreactions.

Humanity had survived for so many years without incident; how could something happen specifically this year?

“Qiao Xia, I just heard a rumor: after the earthquake stops, school’s going to be suspended. The weather forecast explicitly says there’ll be several aftershocks, so continuing classes is out of the question.”

Then, as Qiao Xia mingled among the crowd, Zhou Li, who had gone to gather information, returned and immediately relayed the firsthand news to him.

Qiao Xia’s eyebrows involuntarily rose in surprise. He hadn’t expected a single earthquake to lead to a school suspension!

High school breaks, after all, were extremely precious.

“There’s something else. My dad just called. He didn’t give a specific reason, but he told me to take a leave of absence for a while and stay put somewhere until next year when I can resume classes. Qiao Xia, why don’t you come with me?”

“You don’t like studying anyway, and you’re just staying here. We might as well leave together and even play games online.”

Zhou Li’s plump face wrinkled in a bitter expression as he spoke.
