Chapter 12: Livestreaming and Sizzling Stone-Grilled Meat

Lin Mo walked over and was surprised to find a large slab of fresh meat hanging next to the paper crane.

She lifted the meat, marvelling, “Does the shop give free meat with every purchase now?”

Mo Jin spoke indifferently, “She Yuan sent it over.”

“How do you know?” Lin Mo asked, tilting her head.

Mo Jin turned to leave, dropping a single word behind her: “Scent.

Lin Mo took a deep breath through her nose. She couldn’t smell a thing but fresh forest air.

Opening the red parcel, she found exactly what she had ordered: toiletries and various seasonings. The merchant had even included a small bottle of peanut oil as a bonus. It seemed tonight’s dinner was destined to be a lot more delicious.

Once the package was removed, the paper crane fluttered away just like before.

Lin Mo organized her new supplies and prepared to fix the collapsed roof beams, only to find that Mo Jin had already hoisted them back into place. Mo Jin was sitting nearby, her usually meticulous hair a bit tousled. Her slender, pale neck was partially exposed where the two missing buttons left her collar loose, offering a glimpse of radiance that felt both messy and beautiful.

Mo Jin didn’t seem so untouchable anymore. Sometimes, Lin Mo wanted to get a little closer—to touch the scorching landscape hidden beneath that icy exterior.

Lin Mo quickly patted her own cheeks. Stop daydreaming in broad daylight!

She tightened her grip on the broken buttons in her hand. The slight sting in her palm cleared her head. She had ruined Mo Jin’s clothes; she needed to find a needle and thread to sew them back on. Since there was no sewing kit here, she’d have to spend more money on the official website.

Glancing at Mo Jin’s hair, another thought occurred to her: she should probably buy a comb. If Mo Jin ever turned back into a panda, Lin Mo could groom her fur. She remembered the lady at the orphanage who had a big cat; every time the lady combed it, the cat would purr contentedly.

If I brush Mo Jin’s fur, will she make a tiny purring sound too? The thought made Lin Mo’s heart turn into a puddle of mush.

The future looked bright, but the present required practical thinking. She looked at the small, square wooden cabin and realized a serious problem. If she started accumulating more things inside, and the spirits had a few more brawls nearby, the cabin would surely fall apart. She’d worked so hard for this little house, and the internship was going to be long. It would be better to buy some iron nails to reinforce the whole structure.

More things to buy, but too little money. Lin Mo clenched her fists; she had to earn more.

She decided to study the robot bee to see how to maximize her livestream earnings. Taking the bee down from mid-air, she clicked into the livestream page. A flood of light pink comments suddenly refreshed on the screen:

  • Long Xiaoze: ROAR! Get together already! Just do it!
  • Peach-Eating Monkey Girl: The shirt buttons are already off. Is the “getting together” part far behind? Go for it, streamer! Muah!
  • Zhu Ruoruo: What species of bamboo is the streamer? Why are her leaves bigger than mine?
  • Zhu Xiaoxiang: Is the person above me really a bamboo? You can’t even tell? The streamer is a Thousand-Year Arrow Bamboo. Of course her leaves are bigger. She’s a treasure among treasures!
  • Zhu Gold: Stunned.jpg
  • Cat 39: Dedicated to shipping this CP for a hundred years. By the way, the formation above is a mess.
  • Niu Qi Chong Tian: My god, a Ginseng Boy? I think I entered a fake livestream room.
  • Blue Ke’er: The streamer’s luck is unparalleled. My mom just asked why I’m watching a livestream on my knees. I can’t tell her it’s because I’m worshipping a pro.

Seeing a sea of “worshipping the pro” comments, Lin Mo felt like she had accidentally stumbled onto a mob boss’s set rather than her own livestream. She smiled and checked the viewer count: 300 people. It had tripled since the morning. The pressure was mounting.

She took a sip of water to calm her nerves and scrolled down to her personal profile. Beside the empty avatar slot was a small line: My Fans.

Lin Mo discovered with delight that she now had 100 fans.

She hopped in place and spun around in a circle of joy. She spun toward Mo Jin, who was still by the fire weaving vines. Lin Mo barely controlled her twitching hands; she had almost grabbed Mo Jin to spin with her.

Though, dragging an iceberg into a celebratory dance would probably be weird.

Mo Jin had been watching her. Seeing Lin Mo suddenly jump and spin with a massive grin, she shook her head. The little bamboo had likely gone silly again.

But Lin Mo’s desire to share was irrepressible. She ran to Mo Jin’s side, leaning down until her eyes curved like crescent moons. “Mo Jin, Mo Jin! Guess how many fans we have now?”

Mo Jin set down the finished vines. “Fans?”

“Yes!” Lin Mo nodded vigorously, leaning in close and pointing at the screen. “We have 100 fans now!”

Mo Jin gave a soft “Mm,” glanced casually at the screen, and then shifted her gaze back to Lin Mo’s face. When Lin Mo laughed, her eyes crinkled and a shallow dimple appeared. She showed all eight teeth in a perfect, sweet smile—like a radiant little sun with the power to warm anyone’s heart. Unlike the helpless, cute look she had when they first met, her smile now made her look a bit like a clever little fox.

Aware that Mo Jin was staring, the tips of Lin Mo’s ears flushed red. She moved slightly further away. For some reason, staying too close to Mo Jin made her heart rate accelerate uncontrollably.

“The profile picture is still empty,” Lin Mo said, changing the subject. “Should we take a photo together?”

Fearing Mo Jin might misunderstand, she quickly added, “I mean, we are a team. A solo photo for the avatar wouldn’t be appropriate.”

As soon as she said it, she felt it sounded like a clumsy excuse to get a couple’s photo. To her surprise, Mo Jin simply said, “Okay.”

Lin Mo’s heart leaped. She held up the robot bee and snapped a photo. The resolution was high and crystal clear. Lin Mo looked at the “iceberg-faced” Mo Jin and then at her own silly, beaming face, feeling completely satisfied.

After uploading it, she noticed Mo Jin was still looking at the photo.

“What is it?” Lin Mo asked, feeling a bit nervous.

Mo Jin’s expression didn’t change. “Do you think this photo looks good?”

Did she want it deleted? “It looks great! I really like it!” Lin Mo hugged the robot bee protectively. This was their only photo together; she would guard it with her life.

Mo Jin pursed her lips and said nothing more. Lin Mo, feeling blissful, looked at the photo a few more times before letting the bee resume filming while she started dinner.

She washed the meat at the stream and brought a thin stone slab to the fire. Mo Jin proactively came over to help, using her spiritual energy to precisely control the heat of the flames.

Lin Mo applied a layer of oil to the stone. Once it was sizzling hot, she placed thin slices of meat onto the slab. The even, fatty slices made a satisfying hiss as they hit the oil. Transparent grease bubbled around the edges, and the pink meat gradually turned a warm, vibrant orange-brown, releasing an irresistible aroma.

Lin Mo sprinkled seasonings on both sides, picked up a piece with her chopsticks, blew on it gently, and held it to Mo Jin’s lips. “Try it. It was hard work controlling the fire for so long.”

Mo Jin froze. It was the first time she had felt such warmth.

A sudden surge of emotion threatened to sting her eyes. She lowered her head and took a gentle bite of the grilled meat.

“Is it good?” Lin Mo asked expectantly.

Mo Jin felt like a very useless panda—she was almost unable to speak just from one piece of meat. She opened her mouth and whispered in a low voice:

It’s delicious.

Lin Mo’s eyes curved into crescents. Unaware of the internal turmoil she’d caused, she gave a confident, sunny smile. “If it’s good, eat more!”
