Overwhelmed by terror, Qiao Xia could no longer spare a thought for why Liu Ge could tear out his heart with a single hand, or how such a scene, typically confined to horror films, was now unfolding in grim reality before him.
All he wanted now was to run.
As far away as possible.
As for the game, it would only be interesting if he were alive to play it!
Yet, despite Qiao Xia’s desperate urge to flee, Liu Ge remained fixed before him, unmoving, his gaze unwavering. Qiao Xia dared not even twitch a muscle, fearing that the events destined to unfold ten minutes later might prematurely occur, sealing his fate within the confines of the elevator.
His ‘cheat’ ability was formidable, yet it only allowed him to glimpse events ten minutes into the future.
The intervening moments remained utterly unknown, leaving him to rely solely on guesswork.
This predicament left Qiao Xia in a bind, unsure whether to move or remain still. Having personally experienced the agony of his heart being torn out, Qiao Xia wouldn’t dare step out of the elevator, even if it meant his death.
However, getting the elevator doors to close was another problem entirely. They would only shut properly if Liu Ge’s foot, currently blocking the entrance, was removed.
[The ‘Reverse Outcome’ function has been activated. It can be used only three times within 24 hours. Do you wish to use it?]
As Qiao Xia and Liu Ge stared each other down, a strange sound echoed once more. This time, it was as melodious as a heavenly symphony. Without a moment’s hesitation, Qiao Xia shouted, “Use it!”
Immediately, the familiar darkness swept over him, enveloping Qiao Xia in a profound sense of security.
If it could save Li Lin Guan’s life last time, it could surely save his own this time!
However, once he felt safe, Qiao Xia began to ponder what method would be employed to extricate him from this danger.
Saving Li Lin Guan had required superhuman reflexes. Qiao Xia knew that even if he trained for a decade, he wouldn’t be able to snatch Li Lin Guan away before the rebar fell, thus averting a gruesome impalement.
Using super-fast reflexes this time probably wouldn’t work either!
After all, in the cramped confines of an elevator, even the quickest reflexes would be useless.
If, in the end, he still had his heart torn out, then this ‘cheat’ ability would truly be utterly useless.
As Qiao Xia’s mind raced with wild conjectures, the sense of calm he had briefly felt vanished, replaced by renewed anxiety. This left him desperately eager to see how events would unfold.
Amidst his anticipation, the darkness before him dispersed like mist carried by the wind. Bright light reappeared, and Qiao Xia’s vision returned.
Immediately, he saw a phone with a shattered screen lying not far from the elevator entrance. Its familiar cat-themed case made Qiao Xia instantly realize it was his own phone!
At that very moment, Liu Ge, who had been blocking the elevator, turned and walked towards the phone. His steps were stiff, like a robot’s, and his previously unwavering gaze shifted from Qiao Xia to the device.
The instant Liu Ge turned, the elevator doors swiftly closed, and it began its descent towards the first floor.
At last, Qiao Xia’s heart settled. A wave of weakness instantly washed over him, leaving him to lean unsteadily against the elevator wall as his breathing grew ragged and loud.
What in the world was happening?
He had been looking forward to his holiday, but Liu Ge’s bizarre behavior had ruined it, making Qiao Xia wish he hadn’t taken leave at all.
What exactly had happened to Liu Ge to transform him into this state?
Although Qiao Xia and Liu Ge had trained together for years, he knew surprisingly little about Liu Ge’s personal life. He only knew that Liu Ge was a veteran of the underground boxing circuit, constantly risking injury to earn a living in his youth, living each day as it came.
What the future held was a thought Liu Ge had never entertained.
Liu Ge knew this wasn’t right, but he wasn’t young anymore. He had tried to change his lifestyle before, yet with no other skills, he had reluctantly reverted to his old ways.
The money he earned delivering packages and food in a month didn’t even match what he made from a single boxing match.
This habit of spending lavishly had once plunged Liu Ge into a financial crisis, with his savings dwindling rapidly. Later, the boxing manager proactively approached him, offering increased commission, and Liu Ge half-heartedly agreed to continue.
His life, it seemed, was destined to remain this way.
Yet, despite his own compromises, Liu Ge always urged Qiao Xia to study diligently. Even if academic learning wasn’t his forte, he insisted Qiao Xia master a skill, so he wouldn’t end up like him.
He often remarked that if he were ever beaten to death in a boxing match, there’d likely be no one to collect his body.
Recalling their past interactions, Qiao Xia’s heart ached. He couldn’t comprehend how things had come to this.
Ding!
As Qiao Xia recovered his composure, the elevator smoothly reached the first floor. However, when he looked up, he saw a crowd of people gathered before him.
He spotted elderly women with red armbands bearing the word ‘Committee.’ Qiao Xia instantly realized that Grandpa Li must have called the neighborhood committee.
Had he not witnessed Liu Ge’s condition, Qiao Xia might have advised the committee members to first speak with Liu Ge, cautioning against immediately apprehending him due to potential negative repercussions.
Now, however, there was no need for talk; they should simply apprehend him.
Liu Ge’s state was clearly abnormal. Taking him directly to the hospital might allow for timely treatment. However, if Liu Ge had already harmed someone, the situation would escalate disastrously.
Even if Liu Ge truly suffered from an illness, once cured, he would still be held accountable for any harm caused.
“Are you going to the 20th floor to find Liu Dali?”
Qiao Xia remained motionless inside the elevator, which puzzled the committee members who had intended to use it. After hearing his question, they were even more perplexed about the boy’s intentions.
They had come to assess Liu Dali’s condition and verify if it was truly as severe as Grandpa Li had described.
If it was indeed that serious, he needed to be taken to the hospital immediately.
Otherwise, if any residents were harmed, it would be disastrous!
“Yes, we received a report that Liu Dali is suspected of having some kind of illness, so we came specifically to investigate.”
The committee members had no intention of concealing their purpose for this operation, stating it directly to Qiao Xia.
Upon receiving confirmation, Qiao Xia felt a momentary easing of tension, but then his anxiety surged anew.
Although Qiao Xia hoped the committee members would take Liu Ge to the hospital for treatment, Liu Ge was a seasoned veteran of underground boxing. If he were to attack these people, the committee members, unlike Qiao Xia, couldn’t foresee the future, and thus had no idea how dangerous Liu Ge truly was!
Considering that only one ‘Reverse Outcome’ chance remained for the day, Qiao Xia gritted his teeth, forcing himself to overcome his profound fear.
“I’m also a resident on the 20th floor. It’s on my way, so let’s go up together!”
Then, Qiao Xia looked at the committee members and spoke directly.
He glanced at some of the older women among them and quickly added, “There are too many of us for the elevator. How about us men go up first!”
