Bai Jin sat opposite Lilith, her gaze burning.
“The God-Burying Society, what exactly is it?”
“The God-Burying Society?”
Lilith let out a sneer.
“Just a bunch of lunatics.”
“Their slogans are very loud. Something about there being no gods in the world, slaughtering all false gods, liberating all living beings, and so on.”
Lilith’s voice was tinged with mockery.
“They believe that whether it’s the fallen gods of the past or beings like the Holy Blood today, they are all parasites that steal the world’s origin and enslave the will of living beings.”
“Their ultimate goal is to create a world completely without gods, where all beings are equal, or at least, a world where living beings control their own destiny.”
“They are made up of a group of extremely idealistic lunatics, like vipers lurking in the shadows.”
“They study the gods, looking for ways to kill them. For example, what you saw today, that death energy with a destructive aura.”
Bai Jin was lost in thought.
“Are all the gods in this world in the same state as the Holy Blood? What exactly are gods?”
Lilith toyed with the silver chain around her neck, thought for a moment, and then said uncertainly, “Gods, are they like the administrators of this world?”
“Oh, sorry, can administrators be explained as the masters of the world’s rules? You should be able to understand that, right?”
Bai Jin was a little stunned.
Hearing modern vocabulary coming from Lilith’s mouth felt a bit out of place.
Could it be that Lilith was also a transmigrator?
Bai Jin nodded.
“Then why does the God-Burying Society want to slaughter the gods? Just for that ridiculous ideal?”
Lilith’s tone was filled with obvious disgust.
“Their slogans sound nice, but they themselves are the biggest traitors!”
“Although the gods are not good things, they at least maintain the stability of this world. Even in its current state, a basic order has been established.”
“But those guys from the God-Burying Society actually dare to do such things. What was that line again…”
Lilith got a little worked up as she spoke and suddenly stood up.
“‘From outside the world, we obtain the power to deny the world,’ how ridiculous!”
Hearing this familiar line, Bai Jin also shot to her feet!
She grabbed Lilith’s shoulders, losing her composure a little.
“Where did you hear that line!?”
Interrupted by Bai Jin, Lilith was momentarily at a loss for words.
Looking at Bai Jin’s probing gaze, a hint of panic and a complex, hard-to-read emotion appeared on her face.
“That was…”
She subconsciously tried to avoid Bai Jin’s gaze, her voice becoming somewhat dry.
Bai Jin’s heart was pounding.
That line echoed crazily in her mind.
It wasn’t impossible for the God-Burying Society to say something like that.
But this was Lilith’s evaluation of the God-Burying Society.
It was too familiar.
This was definitely from the world of her past life!
‘Is Lilith also a transmigrator? Or… are there transmigrators in the God-Burying Society?’
Bai Jin’s hands on Lilith’s shoulders tightened unconsciously, her tone carrying an unquestionable demand.
“That line! Where did you hear it? Tell me, Lilith! This is very important!”
Lilith’s body stiffened slightly under Bai Jin’s questioning.
She saw that the shock and urgency in Bai Jin’s eyes were definitely not faked.
She took a deep breath and asked back, “You find… this line very familiar, don’t you?”
Bai Jin’s pupils shrank.
“What do you mean?”
‘Is this a showdown? Is this actually Lilith’s test? To confirm my identity as a transmigrator?’
Lilith gently pushed away Bai Jin’s hands from her shoulders, took half a step back, creating some distance, and turned her back, hiding her complex expression.
“It’s right that it’s familiar.”
Her voice was very soft, with a calmness as if dust had settled.
In Bai Jin’s ears, however, it was like a heavy hammer striking her heart.
“Because… that line…”
She paused, enunciating each word with perfect clarity, “Was spoken by you, Bai Jin…”
“Wh… what?”
Bai Jin subconsciously retorted, her voice sharp with disbelief.
“When did I ever say that?! Lilith, you…”
Lilith whipped her head back around, her eyes sharp.
“Not ‘you’!”
She emphasized, her tone carrying a suppressed pain and resentment.
“It was my sister! The real Bai Jin Lancaster! The God of Death who wielded death! These were her words to me once…”
The room was deathly silent.
Bai Jin’s mouth was open, but she couldn’t make a sound.
A huge sense of absurdity and a bone-chilling cold shot up her spine to the top of her head, making her almost unable to stand.
‘The former God of Death… the real Bai Jin Lancaster… she said it?’
‘A god-like existence in a different world, yet she spoke a line from a game in my past life’s world?’
‘How is that possible?!’
“What on earth is going on? That God-Burying Society?”
Bai Jin’s mind was a mess.
She couldn’t figure it out no matter what.
‘Was the original owner the transmigrator?’
“I don’t know what happened to Sister…”
Lilith tilted her head up, her gaze penetrating the house and extending to distant memories.
“The last time I saw Sister, her body was covered in that twisted, polluting power of the God-Burying Society. So when you wanted to touch the death energy…”
Lilith sighed.
“The power from outside the world has a very strange characteristic. It can twist the will and body of living beings.”
“The monsters born after that great cataclysm are inextricably linked to this power. The only thing that can fight against it is a god’s contract.”
Countless crazy conjectures were constantly being born in Bai Jin’s mind.
She felt a wave of dizziness.
The body she now occupied, its former identity and secrets, were far more complex than she had imagined.
“Then, the God-Burying Society, is it related to your sister?”
Lilith’s gaze suddenly sharpened.
“The God-Burying Society doesn’t think so. The God of Death who controls the rules of death is also a false god in their eyes.”
“You should be careful too. You, who inherited Sister’s power, are a new threat to them. They would love nothing more than to erase you along with the Holy Blood.”
She paused.
“But another part, those core members who control more forbidden powers, they see the God of Death as a ‘necessary evil’.”
“In their view, to slaughter all the gods in the world, they need the power of the God of Death.”
Lilith’s tone became downcast.
“I don’t know what exactly happened five hundred years ago either.”
“I only know that it was the God-Burying Society that killed my sister, and caused me to be bound by this eternal contract!”
Bai Jin digested this huge amount of information.
Lilith’s motive for seeking death was there, but why did it have to be me?
“Then if you want to die, can’t you just commit suicide? Why…”
“Heh, the Holy Blood forced me to sign the contract because it took a liking to the contract between us.”
Lilith interrupted Bai Jin decisively, pain flashing in her eyes.
“The God of Holy Blood is just the remnant of a fallen god. That residual instinct compels it to want to live again.”
“And the contract between us can keep the Holy Blood’s life hanging on. So for the sake of its own resurrection, the Holy Blood will absolutely not watch me die.”
“Suicide? Any form of self-destruction will be detected by the Holy Blood’s contract. The Holy Blood will do everything it can to save me.”
“In these five hundred years, I’ve tried every method you can imagine and can’t imagine. The result…”
She spread her hands, her smile bleak.
“You’ve seen it all.”
