Chapter 14: The Vet and a Vicious Word

The privacy protection measures at this hospital were very well done. Duan Yan had carefully disguised herself on the way here, successfully avoiding the paparazzi lurking near the fruit-themed TV station.

The hospital’s operational efficiency was extremely high, quickly arranging for a dedicated attending physician for the little orange cat.

This doctor’s name was Yu Ya. The moment she saw Duan Yan, her eyes sparkled with excitement, seemingly holding a great fondness for her. But because she was still on duty, she restrained her excitement and did not make any inappropriate moves.

“It’s not serious. One shot will do,” Yu Ya said after examining it.

Duan Yan’s heart instantly settled, and she regained her composure, stroking the little cat lying on the examination table.

“Okay.”

Yu Ya set to work, opening her medical kit, mixing the medication, and preparing to inject the little orange cat.

She instructed Duan Yan to help hold the kitten’s limbs to prevent it from suddenly waking up and struggling during the injection.

In her hazy consciousness, Song Jin felt a cool sensation approach her body, followed by a sharp pain, and she was jolted awake.

“Meow-wu—”

Song Jin let out a painful cry, struggling with her limbs to escape, but she was held down and couldn’t move.

“Be good, baby, it’ll be over soon~ very soon~”

Yu Ya focused on giving the injection, while Duan Yan cooperated with the vet’s actions, holding the kitten down and coaxing it in a familiar tone.

Finally, the injection was done. Song Jin’s strength was depleted, and she fell into a deep sleep.

Duan Yan let out a sigh of relief, standing guard by the little orange cat’s side.

“What on earth happened? She was fine at noon today, and then she suddenly got a fever.”

Yu Ya thought for a moment, “Did you give her a bath? Kittens don’t need to be bathed often; they have self-cleaning abilities.”

“No, maybe it was the fish she ate recently?”

Duan Yan had already asked the previous family vet, Zhao Qing. Kittens don’t need frequent baths. She hadn’t bathed it since she picked it up, only gently wiping its soft fur with a damp towel.

“It might be a slight allergy to human spices. Don’t feed it that next time. Here are two pills. Feed them to the cat when it wakes up.”

After Yu Ya finished speaking, she was about to say something to Duan Yan but was called away for work. Before leaving, she gave Duan Yan a particularly disappointed look.

Only Duan Yan was left in the room; she had sent her assistant to buy food.

When Song Jin opened her eyes again, it was already five in the afternoon. She had been unconscious for two hours. Now she had recovered, her head wasn’t dizzy or painful, and she even felt better than before.

She glanced to the side and saw a red dress—it was Duan Yan. She had been guarding her here all this time.

Right now, Duan Yan was looking at something on her tablet. A quick glance revealed it was likely the script for the drama she was supposed to start filming in a month.

“Meow~”

Hearing the little orange cat’s voice, Duan Yan put down her tablet, looked up, and her cool eyes lit up with a joyful smile.

“Baby, you’re awake.”

Song Jin had been lying down for so long, her bones were about to turn to jelly.

With a “swoosh,” she stood up from the covers, her tail perking up quietly, her chin slightly raised, her eyes regaining their former luster.

“Meow meow meow~”

‘Of course! How could a small illness defeat her? She was full of spirit now!’

Duan Yan was amused by the little orange cat’s spirited and cute actions. Remembering the vet’s instructions, she took a box of porridge from the bedside and prepared to feed the kitten.

Duan Yan knew that feeding a kitten medicine was not an easy task.

She crushed the pill beforehand, then mixed it with the porridge, stirring it gently with a small spoon to ensure the powder dissolved evenly and was undetectable.

“Baby, are you hungry?”

Duan Yan said gently to the little cat, “Be good, eat this, and you’ll get better.”

Song Jin looked at the porridge in front of her with suspicion.

The white surface of the porridge had some suspicious powdery particles. Was something else added to it? Or was it just seasoning?

Although she was suspicious, it was impossible that Duan Yan would harm her.

Song Jin cautiously licked the porridge from the spoon, scooping it into her mouth with her nimble tongue.

‘Why does it have a strange taste?’

Song Jin frowned and refused to continue after one bite.

Seeing the little cat refuse to eat, Duan Yan was anxious but didn’t show it on her face.

‘A sick kitten refusing to take its medicine, that won’t do!’

“Why did you stop eating? Come on, have a little more~” Duan Yan coaxed gently.

‘One doesn’t hit a smiling face. Should I eat a little more to give Duan Yan some face?’

Song Jin hesitated and took a few more bites, but the taste was too strange. She really couldn’t eat any more.

“Meow-wu~”

‘I really can’t. It’s too disgusting!’

Song Jin’s eyes were wide and round, her mouth shut tight, unwilling to eat the food Duan Yan offered.

Duan Yan didn’t dare to force the little cat and could only go back and think of another way to get it to take its medicine.

She picked up a damp cotton swab and, with a movement as gentle as if she were afraid of disturbing the air, carefully wiped the kitten’s lips, fearing even a tiny bit of food residue would stick to its soft fur.

Then, she offered a cup of clear water. The surface of the water rippled faintly, reflecting the kitten’s bright eyes.

The kitten seemed extremely thirsty. It stuck out its pink tongue and drank with a “lap lap lap” sound, finishing half a cup of water in one go.

After drinking the water, the kitten was full of spirit, flicking its fluffy tail, full of vitality.

Song Jin had truly recovered completely and was full of energy, but Duan Yan was still worried about her and only let her stay on the bed, not allowing her to run around.

At this moment, Yu Ya rushed over, pushing the door open. She carefully observed the little orange cat and gave Duan Yan a dose of reassurance.

“Alright, she has recovered. You can take her back now, but you still need to pay attention and let her recuperate for a day or two. Don’t let her catch a cold.”

Duan Yan nodded, indicating she understood.

“By the way, your cat is a 2-year-old female. It’s best for female cats to be spayed. Otherwise, their heat cycles will be very painful. Not only that, but spayed female cats also live longer. The spaying procedure here is the best in the capital. If you consider spaying your cat, you can consider our hospital…”

‘Spaying?!’

The moment Song Jin heard this word, all the fur on her body stood on end. Her pupils instantly constricted, revealing an unbelievable shock.

“Thank you, I will consider it.”

Duan Yan’s voice was as cold as the north wind in winter, freezing Song Jin right in the middle of early spring March. Her heart felt as if it had been sealed in ice.

‘Is this something a human being would do?’

Song Jin looked up at the expression on Duan Yan’s face in disbelief. It wasn’t just a polite phrase; it was the kind of expression that showed she would genuinely consider it.

‘Heh heh, this woman actually wants to do this to her. So malicious!’

At this thought, the way Song Jin looked at Duan Yan became wary and guarded.

‘Once she returns to her human form, she has to run away immediately. She must not let Duan Yan take her to be spayed.’

After Yu Ya finished speaking, she hesitated, seeming a bit embarrassed. A blush spread across her cheeks, and she shyly hesitated for a long time before speaking.

“Although it’s a bit presumptuous and rude, I was wondering if Best Actress Duan could grant me an autograph?”

Yu Ya’s voice trembled slightly, her eyes full of expectation and longing.

Duan Yan hesitated for a moment, her gaze sweeping over Yu Ya’s face.

Song Jin glared viciously at Yu Ya. This person who had just suggested spaying her was now shamelessly asking for Duan Yan’s autograph.

‘No! Absolutely not!’

Song Jin quickly ran to Duan Yan’s side, wrapping her fluffy tail tightly around Duan Yan’s right arm, not allowing her to sign.

“I’ve been a fan of yours for five years. I have proof of attending events, it’s all recorded on Weibo…” Yu Ya had longed for Duan Yan’s autograph. Now that she finally saw her in person, she used all her skills, but because of her sincere admiration, she didn’t want to make things difficult for Duan Yan.

“If it’s really inconvenient, then forget it…”

Normally, she could have had Yu Ya contact her through the studio, but seeing Yu Ya’s pitiful appearance, so much like a pleading little cat, and given that she was a long-time fan, Duan Yan’s heart softened.

“Then don’t post it online, okay? This is a secret between us.”

Because her right hand was wrapped by the little cat’s tail, Duan Yan used her left hand to pick up the pen and fluently signed a few stylish autographs in Yu Ya’s notebook.

“There.”

Yu Ya was so excited she nearly jumped. She quietly told Duan Yan how to leave to avoid being photographed, her voice full of excitement.

Duan Yan smiled gratefully, held the cat in her arms, and left with her assistant.

Song Jin, however, was sullen.

On one hand, it was because Duan Yan’s influence was so great that she had a loyal fan of five years, while she herself didn’t even have fans of two years. On the other hand, it was because Duan Yan had actually signed an autograph for the person who had suggested spaying her.

‘How despicable!’

In the car, Song Jin was fuming. Whenever Duan Yan reached out to pet her, she would show her claws and let out a threatening hiss.

Duan Yan was completely clueless.

If she had to explain it, it could only be that a cat’s temper is fickle.

‘Oh well, she was the one who spoiled it.’

Duan Yan sighed helplessly in her heart.
