Chapter 15: The Unwilling Participant

Ji Wenyan paid no mind to the math competition his homeroom teacher had mentioned.

After all, he was just a slacker when it came to academics.

While he longed to win an award and earn praise from his parents upon returning home, Ji Wenyan couldn’t bring himself to self-deceive.

Math problems might recognize him, but he certainly didn’t recognize them.

Besides, compared to any competition, his life was far more important.

As time ticked by, little by little, Ji Wenyan, who could barely sit still, finally endured until dismissal.

Spotting Shen Hua approaching with a smile playing on his lips, Ji Wenyan instantly made a decision.

Grab Bai Mengze and run!

“Why are we running? Aren’t you and Shen Hua friends?”

“N-not… friends. If he… latches onto me, things will get… really… troublesome.”

While Shen Hua stood there, dumbfounded, Ji Wenyan had already pulled Bai Mengze out of the campus and into the private car waiting at the school gate.

Unlike Bai Mengze, who seemed completely unfazed, Ji Wenyan, being unaccustomed to physical exertion, slumped against the back seat, panting incessantly.

Earlier, when Bai Mengze had agreed to go out with him, Ji Wenyan had already made all the arrangements via text message.

Thus, this trip to the shopping mall was guaranteed to be without a hitch.

He was determined to enhance Bai Mengze’s beauty attribute.

He just wondered if the attributes boosted by makeup would vanish once it was removed.

Alright, he felt relieved then.

After hearing the System’s thoughtful explanation, Ji Wenyan’s worries dissipated. He then looked at Bai Mengze, who was sitting primly beside him, finding her more pleasing to the eye with each glance.

He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was playing some sort of beautiful girl nurturing game right now.

A real-life version, no less.

However, playing a game wouldn’t cost him his life. If he had a choice, Ji Wenyan would rather not play at all than put his life in jeopardy.

Fortunately, it wasn’t quite nightmare difficulty; the current situation was still acceptable.

“After we’re done shopping, let’s go our separate ways!”

“I’ll take you home. It might be dark by the time we leave the mall, and it’s not safe for a girl to go back alone.”

“I…”

“Don’t refuse. Your safety is paramount, so you must be extra careful. I’ve heard there have been a lot of exhibitionists lately. Even if you manage to beat them off, seeing something you shouldn’t would still be disgusting enough to make you want to wash your eyes out.”

“Alright.”

Listening to Ji Wenyan, Bai Mengze wanted to argue, yet she couldn’t think of anything appropriate to say.

Although she felt she didn’t need anyone’s protection, if she truly encountered an exhibitionist…

‘Forget it. It would be better to let Ji Wenyan take her back.’

Ji Wenyan was quite satisfied with Bai Mengze’s obedient compliance.

Fortunately, Bai Mengze wasn’t the type to be unyielding; otherwise, trying to communicate with her would surely infuriate him to death!

And so, after a swift drive in the private car, the two soon alighted at the shopping mall.

“Mr. Ji, Miss Bai, please follow me! The makeup artist has already arrived, so there’s no need to wait.”

No sooner had Ji Wenyan led Bai Mengze into the mall, and before Bai Mengze could even ask where they were going to shop, a woman in a black blazer and skirt suddenly appeared before them, bowing deeply.

This startled Bai Mengze, who quickly moved a few steps to the side, not quite ready to accept the woman’s sudden bow.

This wasn’t a TV drama; who was this woman?

Why was she bowing so abruptly? It was utterly bizarre!
