“Hello, I’m from the Blood Hunt Church. Our records show you were attacked by a vampire. I’m here to document the case.”

The girl outside spoke methodically.

Her attire was formal, her smile polite, all very official.

But Luoyao wasn’t about to open the door just because she heard “Blood Hunt Church.”

No way!

She, Luoyao, was too clever to fall for the same trick twice!

Noah had once posed as a Church member to trick her into opening the door.

Then knocked her out and took her away.

That vampire was so gentle.

She could’ve smashed the security door but chose to undermine Luoyao’s trust in humans instead.

‘She really pisses me off!’

So now, even if the girl claimed to be Noah’s mom, Luoyao wouldn’t open the door!

She cleared her throat. “Ahem, uh… let’s talk through the door. I’m not free right now.”

“I’m sorry, but case documentation is vital for handling vampire attacks. Please open the door to cooperate.”

The girl paused, sensing Luoyao’s hesitation.

She stepped back, letting her full figure show in the peephole.

Raising her arms, she spun in place, then carefully wiped her eyes. “See, my eyes are normal dark brown, no contacts.”

She flashed a standard professional smile, revealing neat white teeth. “No fangs either.”

“If that’s not enough, look outside—it’s broad daylight. Vampires can’t be out in the sun, right?”

After this display, Luoyao relaxed slightly.

She cracked the door open, her heart racing with each inch.

Once bitten, twice shy.

Even though the girl seemed human, Luoyao was still wary.

Fortunately, the girl didn’t rush in.

She waited calmly as Luoyao fully opened the door.

“Hello, you’re… Miss Luoyao, correct?” she asked politely.

“Yeah…”

“I’m Suyue, captain of the Blood Cross squad under the Blood Hunt Church.”

Suyue.

Blood Cross captain.

Those words triggered Luoyao’s memory.

Before leaving, Noah said she let Luoyao go at the supermarket because she saw Suyue.

She wanted to avoid Suyue’s ruthlessness harming Luoyao.

And Noah’s near-death injuries were all thanks to Suyue’s trap.

Talk about enemies crossing paths.

She hurt Noah so badly…

‘Despicable woman!’

“Can I come in?” Suyue asked.

“Not convenient.”

Luoyao refused outright.

The moment Suyue introduced herself, Luoyao’s goodwill toward her vanished.

This sharp-witted human miss was ruled by her emotions.

She didn’t care if Suyue was humanity’s savior.

If you hurt someone she cared about, you were a villain—a wolf in sheep’s clothing!

Besides, keeping Suyue out didn’t stop her from saving the world, did it?

“Alright then.”

Suyue’s gaze briefly scanned Luoyao.

She pulled a folder from her backpack. “Records show that half a month ago, you and a vampire named Yelan Noah were at a Walmart four blocks away, correct?”

“Yeah.”

“But she let you go and hasn’t appeared since. Do you know why she did that?”

“Don’t know,” Luoyao said. “How would I know what goes on in a vampire’s head?”

“Fair enough. Have you felt unwell recently? Dizziness, nausea?”

Luoyao shook her head.

“Okay, then…”

Suyue asked more questions about Noah.

Luoyao dodged what she could, and for what she couldn’t, she boiled it down to three words:

I don’t know!

She didn’t want Suyue troubling Noah.

Nor did she want her knowing about their intimate bond.

So she played dumb, answering with ignorance.

But Luoyao minded her tone and attitude, trying not to sound annoyed.

As expected, Suyue got no useful information.

She closed the folder and put it back in her backpack. “Thank you for your cooperation.”

“Mm.”

Suyue pursed her lips, her eyes stealing a glance at Luoyao’s cold expression.

After a pause, she pulled out her phone. “Can I have your contact info?”

Luoyao frowned. “No need.”

“If that vampire comes back, you can call me. I’ll rush over to protect you.”

Luoyao’s thoughts: ‘What are you talking about?’

‘If Noah came back, would I tell you?’

‘I’d turn off my phone, lock the door, and spend three days and nights with that smug vampire in my bedroom.’

‘Tell you? Hah! Dream on!’

“No thanks. Isn’t there a Church security team at the complex entrance?”

Suyue narrowed her eyes slightly. “Miss Luoyao, you seem… quite hostile toward me.”

“You’re overthinking it. Why would I be hostile to the world-saving Blood Hunt Church?”

Suyue gave a wry inner smile.

This girl’s words had an edge.

“Fine. Forget the Church. Can I ask for your contact info personally?”

“…”

If Luoyao didn’t agree, this woman would keep pestering her.

“138XXXXXXXX, same for WeChat.”

“Great, thanks. If you need help in life, feel free to reach out.”

Please, I’m a fully functioning adult with a sound mind—what help would I need?

Luoyao sighed inwardly.

To get rid of Suyue quickly, she forced patience. “Got it, thanks, hunter miss.”

“Wishing you a pleasant life.”

Suyue turned and left.

Luoyao didn’t wait for her to disappear around the stairwell.

She slammed the door shut.

She had no goodwill or respect for the woman who hurt Noah.

Cooperating with her work was already Luoyao’s limit.

Anything more? Hah, not a chance.

And there was another reason Luoyao couldn’t warm to Suyue.

Her eyes.

She came for official business, asking Luoyao to cooperate.

But her gaze wasn’t that of a Church hunter speaking to a civilian.

Beneath those dark brown eyes, there seemed to be a hidden purpose…
