Chapter 16 : The Office

In the director’s office of the Bureau of Abnormal Affairs, Yuhui was sitting at the coffee table, disassembling his pistol.

First, he removed the magazine, then pressed the disassembly latch, rotated the handle 90 degrees clockwise, pulled out the barrel and slide, pushed the recoil spring towards the muzzle, lifted it, removed it, and then removed the barrel.
The entire disassembly process was very simple and could be completed in 10 seconds.

At this moment, only the two of them were in the office, and “Quiet and Soundless” was also activated.

“What now?” Luo Hao asked Yuhui, sitting at his desk.

“The dumbest way: block the city’s entrances and exits, investigate surveillance, mobile communication base stations, set up identity checkpoints at the entrances of all residential areas, shopping malls, and restaurants, and dig three feet deep to find him,” Yuhui said while wiping the parts with an oil-soaked cotton cloth, then wiping off the excess oil with a dry cloth.

“The other things are manageable, but I don’t have the authority to block the city’s entrances and exits.”

“You can find someone who does. Who has that authority now?”

“The only person I can contact immediately who has that authority is the mayor, but it has to be approved by a higher authority first.”

“Then find the mayor,” Yuhui said, wiping the barrel with a gun cloth soaked in rust-preventive cleaner.

Luo Hao closed his eyes and thought for a moment.

“No, I just said it needs approval, and even if it’s feasible, we don’t have enough manpower. Although Sinhe is just a small city, the urban area has a population of 400,000. He’s a sorcerer, you can’t find him in a sea of people using such a dumb method,” Luo Hao waved his hand.
“Let’s try another way.”

Yuhui picked up the cleaning rod with a small brush and began to clean the barrel and chamber.
“That woman.”

“What?” Luo Hao didn’t understand what he meant.

“That woman who died at the hands of Blake Morton. Blake can kill without a reason, but the problem is, why did he cut off that woman’s arms and chest? What’s the point? He must have a reason, or a purpose, for doing this.”

“What purpose could there be?”

Yuhui finished cleaning the barrel and chamber and wiped the inside of the barrel and chamber with a dry cloth.

“I don’t know yet, but if we can know the purpose of his actions and figure out his motive for coming to Sinhe City, we might be able to intercept him in advance.”

“Do you have any leads now?”

“Not yet.”

Luo Hao shook his head.
“A simple matter has been made so complicated by this rat. Is there really no other way?”

“Blake Morton is a sorcerer. It’s easy for him to evade tracking, at least to hide his identity from ordinary people. We can only wait for him to show up next time and then pursue him as quickly as possible.”

“It’s a manhunt,” Luo Hao slapped the table.
“Someone like him is worth much more dead than alive.”

Yuhui confirmed that there was no dirt or foreign matter inside the barrel and chamber, applied a thin layer of oil, reassembled the pistol, repeatedly racked the slide to confirm that the pistol was functioning normally, and finally applied a thin layer of oil to the outside of the pistol.

“Where’s Rachel?” Luo Hao asked after a moment of silence.

“She said she went to find someone to help. She knows someone who might be able to help us find Blake Morton.”

“Forget it, let’s not talk about this for now,” Luo Hao pushed aside the files on his desk.
“How have you been these past few years?”

“How could I be? Just barely surviving,” Yuhui laughed self-deprecatingly.

Luo Hao’s gaze swept over Yuhui’s shirt and vest, staring at the silver metal prosthetic on his left hand.
“Look at you now, you’re completely different from that stray dog you were before. Your clothes are neat and proper, you even have a prosthetic finger, and your temperament is back to how it used to be during the early days. Oh, right, you also quit smoking. That is good, good for your health.”

“Actually, nothing has changed. I’m still that same stray dog,” Yuhui said, leaning back on the sofa, his eyes narrowed, the metal prosthetic on his left hand tapping the glass tabletop of the coffee table.

“I know, you can’t get over that incident. That’s why Duke Ronald has been wanting to find you and bring you back. He really likes people like you, sometimes a gentleman, sometimes a rogue. I really don’t understand you.”

“It’s no big deal. The Duke just wants me to be a gun in his hands. I’ll just do it.”

“Don’t look at things so pessimistically. When I was by the Duke’s side, he often talked about you,” Luo Hao said.
“Why did you suddenly come to your senses? Did you move on from the past?”

“If I had moved on, I wouldn’t be sitting in front of you today,” Yuhui tucked his chin in, a hint of a smile in his eyes.
“The Duke wouldn’t have come to find me either.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Do you even need to ask why? When he came to find me this time, he told me that he could help me get my revenge. That’s why I came back.”

“See,” Yuhui sat up straight, spread his hands, and smiled.
“He doesn’t want me to move on at all, and he’s not doing it for my own good.”

Luo Hao was silent for a few seconds.
He knew that at least one thing Yuhui said was right.
Duke Ronald didn’t want Yuhui to get over his past.
If it weren’t for Yuhui being immersed in the past all these years, the Duke wouldn’t have had any bargaining chips to attract a fanatic like him.

“No matter what, you’ll have a chance to make a name for yourself and complete your plan. Isn’t that great?”

“What name?” Yuhui turned to look out the window.
“I’m just a small fry like you. I don’t know what kind of life-threatening errands I’ll have to run this time when I go back.”

“You’re making a big deal out of nothing again. Isn’t it just that His Majesty the Emperor’s health is failing and he needs to appoint a successor? It’s just a new generation replacing the old, it won’t lead to deaths at every turn. And when the sky falls, the tall ones will hold it up. It’s not the small fries’ turn to worry.”

“Let’s not talk about me,” Yuhui waved his hand.
“What about you? How have you been these past few years? Why did you come here?”

“When you get old, you lose your ambition, so you naturally go to a more relaxed place,” Luo Hao smiled.
“Drink tea and read the newspaper at work, drink and watch ball games after work.”

“So you can say things like that too. We haven’t seen each other in years, you’ve changed.”

“Change is inevitable, including people’s thoughts,” Luo Hao pointed to his head.
“Only things that remain in the past do not change.”

“What happened to your hand? Was it injured just now?” he noticed Yuhui’s right hand.

“Oh, you mean this,” Yuhui raised his right hand, the image of the blue-haired girl flashing in his mind.
“Frostbite. What’s the situation with that female subordinate of yours? Tell me about her. She actually has the psionic ability ‘Xeno-ice.’ Why would someone like her come to Sinhe City with you? And her surname is Ronald. What’s her relationship with the Duke?”
