Chapter 16: Unexpected Attack

After the afternoon military training ended, Lin Shiyue still couldn’t understand why Su Cheng’s reaction was so minimal.

However, the idea of asking her out to dinner had not been dismissed.

At least until her doubts were completely resolved, she would try her best to maintain a good relationship with Su Cheng.

Lin Shiyue followed the solitary Su Cheng, who was walking at a moderate pace, slowly ambling along.

Lin Shiyue suddenly grabbed her hand.

Startled, Su Cheng abruptly turned around, colliding squarely with Lin Shiyue’s chest.

“Hmmn… Ugh…”

She seemed to have bumped into something soft. Raising her hand to touch it, the soft, bouncy feel made her want to touch it a couple more times.

“Su… Su Cheng…”

Lin Shiyue’s shy voice drifted into Su Cheng’s ears. Lin Shiyue half-closed her eyes in embarrassment, released Su Cheng’s hand, her body trembling slightly as if electrocuted.

Besides herself, Su Cheng was the first girl to touch her chest…

Su Cheng immediately realized it was Lin Shiyue’s chest and quickly moved away from it.

“Class… Class Monitor, I didn’t mean it, I really didn’t notice.”

Su Cheng, her pretty face slightly flushed, apologized repeatedly. Lin Shiyue, whose face was already burning red, showed a faint smile.

“It’s… it’s okay… I know you didn’t mean it.”

Su Cheng felt lucky in her heart. Fortunately, it was Lin Shiyue. If it had been another girl, she might have been accused of harassment and even arrested.

Su Cheng let out a long breath, stepping back half a step to create some distance, and asked Lin Shiyue, “Is there something you needed, Class Monitor?”

“Nothing much, just wanted to find someone to go eat with. The cafeteria has new dishes today,” Lin Shiyue smiled at Su Cheng, the blush on her cheeks fading a little.

Su Cheng nodded, remembered something, and added, “But, I’ve already made plans with my roommates, I have to wait for them.”

“Well, that works too.”

Lin Shiyue’s smile receded by half. She had originally thought it would be just the two of them, but now her plan was ruined.

Not long after, Chen Xi and Sun Xiaochen walked towards Su Cheng and Lin Shiyue.

The two were whispering along the way, and Su Cheng suspected they had seen the scene moments ago.

“Little Orange, why did you run so fast? The Class Monitor is here too.” Chen Xi’s face showed a hint of confusion, pondering the current situation, her eyes darting between the two.

Su Cheng glanced at Lin Shiyue beside her and said to the two, “The Class Monitor wants to eat with us. You two don’t mind, do you?”

“No objection, we’re all in the same class, what’s there to mind?” Sun Xiaochen was the first to answer.

Chen Xi teased, “We’ll listen to whatever our popularity queen arranges, anything you say goes.”

“Popularity queen? How am I a popularity queen?”

Chen Xi giggled, “In the morning it was the campus belle, now it’s the class belle, all of them hooked by you.”

Sun Xiaochen echoed, “Exactly, exactly, all the goddesses are snatched by you, the boys are going to cry.”

Su Cheng angrily glared at the two who were singing in unison, biting her delicate teeth.

“You two will get beaten up sooner or later, I’ll deal with you back in the dorm.”

Su Cheng motioned her small fist towards the two; the fist, only slightly larger than an egg, held no deterrent power.

Chen Xi and Sun Xiaochen giggled, feigning fear, but in reality, they weren’t flustered at all.

Lin Shiyue stepped in to mediate, a gentle smile on her face: “Alright, alright, stop messing around. If you keep teasing her, our popularity queen might lock you out of the dorm.”

Lin Shiyue’s words were half-joke, half-warning, but Su Cheng couldn’t tell who she was siding with.

Chen Xi and Sun Xiaochen exchanged glances. Chen Xi giggled, covering her mouth: “The Class Monitor has spoken, let’s go eat.”

“Let’s go, let’s go. If we don’t go to the cafeteria now, all the food will be snatched up,” Sun Xiaochen urged.

Su Cheng was dizzy with their reactions. She sighed and followed the three of them.

“You three, you’re up to no good.”

The four walked side-by-side towards the cafeteria. Lin Shiyue naturally walked beside Su Cheng.

Su Cheng remembered the accidental contact just now, her face heating up a bit, and she instinctively kept a subtle distance from Lin Shiyue.

It wasn’t like she hadn’t hugged Lin Shiyue in her previous life, but the current Su Cheng was simply prone to blushing.

Lin Shiyue seemed to notice, and didn’t deliberately get closer to Su Cheng, only occasionally turning her head to look at her when she spoke.

Chen Xi had a restless nature. Her eyes darted between Su Cheng and Lin Shiyue, unable to resist gossiping.

She glanced at Lin Shiyue, who was some distance from Su Cheng, and deliberately lowered her voice to whisper to Su Cheng beside her: “Hey, Little Orange, when the Class Monitor came looking for you to eat just now, we all saw it. You two… when did you get together?”

Su Cheng gave her an exasperated eye-roll: “What do you mean ‘got together’? We’re just classmates, and that was just an accident, don’t overthink it.”

Lin Shiyue, however, was much calmer than her, her face still wearing that calm smile, though her earlobes secretly took on a faint blush.

She went along with Su Cheng’s words: “Su Cheng didn’t notice me just now, got startled, and then accidentally bumped into me.”

Lin Shiyue’s tone was frank, as if she hadn’t been the one whose chest was assaulted.

Sun Xiaochen stifled a laugh nearby, adding fuel to the fire.

“Oh, an accident, huh~ Class Monitor, you have such a good temper. If I were ‘accidentally’ touched like that…”

Sun Xiaochen deliberately didn’t finish her sentence, but her mischievous gaze said it all.

“Sun Xiaochen!”

Su Cheng stamped her foot in angry embarrassment, feeling like she was about to explode from these two annoying roommates.

“If you two keep this up, you won’t be coming back to the dorm later!”

“No, Little Orange!” Chen Xi immediately wailed, “We’re wrong, really wrong!”

Sun Xiaochen moved a step further away from Su Cheng, immediately shutting up about it.

Lin Shiyue looked at Su Cheng’s fuming, helpless expression towards her roommates, and the smile at the corner of her lips deepened.

“You three are really interesting.”

Su Cheng grumbled unhappily, complaining to Lin Shiyue: “What’s interesting? They mock me every day. If they don’t mock me a couple of times a day, they feel uncomfortable all over.”

Lin Shiyue lightly patted Su Cheng’s shoulder, saying in a comforting tone, “Alright, alright, don’t be angry anymore, and you two, stop teasing Su Cheng.”

Chen Xi nodded repeatedly: “Okay, we’ll stop.”

Su Cheng glared at the two, pointing at them and lecturing them.

“Seriously, you two use me as your topic every day. One day I’ll post about you on Xiaohongshu.”

Chen Xi and Sun Xiaochen offered apologetic smiles to Su Cheng. Although Su Cheng spoke harshly, it was mostly out of anger, and she wouldn’t actually post about them.

But she also had to show a “I mean what I say” demeanor to deter these two gossipy roommates.

The four arrived at the cafeteria under the lingering afterglow of the setting sun, their division of labor clear: some got food, some saved seats.

Su Cheng naturally belonged to the seat-savers. If she didn’t save seats at this time, she’d have to eat standing in the cafeteria.

She entrusted all her meal orders to her roommates.

Sun Xiaochen and Chen Xi were the first to get their food and return. Lin Shiyue was the last to get her food and joined Su Cheng.

Once everyone was present, the four began to eat.
