Chapter 19: The Girl in the Bed

After a thorough “cat-huffing” session from Duan Yan, Song Jin lost all her vitality.

She had nothing left, truly nothing left…

Fatigue washed over her like a tide.

Her eyelids were as heavy as lead.

In Duan Yan’s meticulous care, she felt as if she were wrapped in warm down feathers, slowly sinking into an ocean of dreams.

Duan Yan’s fingers gently slid down the little cat’s back.

Its eyelids, like the wings of a butterfly, gently closed.

She left a kiss as light as a feather by its ear, as if afraid of disturbing its dreams.

The little cat lay naturally on her bed, covered in her scent.

Its living presence added a touch of life to her originally silent room.

The outside world said she had a cold personality and was content in her own company, but she occasionally felt lonely too.

Her parents were like strangers to her, and her grandmother had passed away many years ago.

She only had Auntie Lian, a close elder, and Zhao Dan, who was far away in a foreign country, to confide in.

Although Auntie Lian could listen to her thoughts, she had her own family, after all, and Duan Yan didn’t want people to think she was too fragile.

Zhao Dan was far away in the United States with a busy academic schedule.

Coupled with the time difference, replies to the amusing things she shared often came much later.

She understood Zhao Dan’s busy schedule and didn’t blame her.

And as for the faces in her social circle, who really knew who was under the mask?

Who could guarantee that no one would betray her behind her back?

Although Duan Yan was an upright person, this industry was full of muck, and she had to be on guard.

She, too, would long for a little warmth to cradle her heart.

And this little cat on the bed was her best companion.

Not only did it not dislike her, but it was also coquettish and clingy, and its pair of moist eyes were utterly adorable.

More importantly, this little cat belonged only to her.

It wouldn’t even let others touch it, acknowledging only her as its owner.

Sometimes, Duan Yan felt that heaven, seeing her loneliness, had finally bestowed upon her a cute and clingy little orange cat.

The little cat casually rolled over, kicking the warmth of the blanket aside.

Its paws stretched out gently, as if it were having a sweet dream.

Duan Yan frowned.

‘No, I have to cover its tummy. What if it gets sick?’

Duan Yan carefully covered the little cat’s belly, but the kitten moved again, causing the blanket to slide off.

After this happened a few times, Duan Yan simply wrapped the little cat’s belly up in a small blanket.

Looking at the blanket on the cat’s stomach, Duan Yan nodded in satisfaction and went downstairs for breakfast.

All was quiet, with only the rustling of leaves to be heard.

After being thoroughly cuddled by Duan Yan, Song Jin was finally left alone and slept soundly.

Suddenly, she felt something warm covering her stomach and subconsciously used her hand to push it away.

After pushing it off, it was finally cooler.

Song Jin went back to sleep.

As she slept, she suddenly felt that something was not right.

A hand?

She opened her eyes and saw her own familiar face and body.

She had changed back?

This was really not the right time; this was Duan Yan’s house.

If Duan Yan discovered that she had turned into a kitten to pry out her secrets, she would never be able to hold her head high in front of Duan Yan for the rest of her life.

And maybe Duan Yan, in a fit of anger, would send her to a research institute, boohoohoo…

She had to find a way to leave immediately.

Song Jin got up and went to the window.

Seeing the height from below, Duan Yan’s room was on the second floor, about three meters high.

If she jumped, she would end up with a lame leg.

She could tie bedsheets into a rope and slide down, but that would be far too obvious.

Imagine her facing Duan Yan through the window, staring at each other, and then explaining with an awkward smile, “Hi, Best Actress Duan, I came to your house to practice climbing.”

Just thinking about it felt so moronic and utterly embarrassing.

Should she hide first?

Wait for Duan Yan to leave and then use her phone to call for a ride?

But if Duan Yan couldn’t find her little cat, she would definitely not give up.

She loved clinging to her cat and couldn’t bear to be without its company for even a moment.

When she discovered the cat was missing, she would check the surveillance cameras and search everywhere.

She would still be found.

Sigh, leaving was impossible.

So the problem now was how to explain herself when Duan Yan found her.

Song Jin was as anxious as an ant on a hot pan.

She tried to control her body, attempting to change back into a cat, but it was useless.

She remained in her human form.

Just as Song Jin was deep in thought, she heard Duan Yan’s voice calling for her from outside the door, along with the “clack, clack, clack” of approaching footsteps.

“Baby, it’s time to get up~”

‘What should I do?’

Song Jin got back onto the bed and covered herself with the blanket, deceiving herself in the hope of being discovered a little later.

Duan Yan pushed the door open.

Her gaze swept lightly across the room, but she didn’t see any trace of the little cat.

Her brow furrowed slightly, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.

Why was there such a large lump under the blanket?

How could such a tiny cat prop up such a large space?

Then she let out a chuckle.

Maybe the little cat was just playing around inside?

“Mommy caught you being naughty, didn’t I? Do you still want your dried fish snacks today?”

Duan Yan walked over, preparing to lift the blanket.

Hiding under the covers, Song Jin squeezed her eyes shut in resignation.

Her heart leaped into her throat, hammering like a drum, so nervous she could hardly breathe.

Duan Yan’s fingers gently hooked the corner of the blanket.

A ray of morning light took the opportunity to slip in.

“?”

Duan Yan’s expression changed drastically.
