Chapter 2: The Matchmaker Event

Lin Mo had just finished writing.

Song Qing turned her head, saw it, and asked in a whisper, “What did you write? Let me see?”

“I am not showing you.”

Lin Mo rolled up the paper, hiding it completely, and handed it directly to the professor.

“Tch,” Song Qing curled her lip.

“I was going to tell you some inside info, but since you won’t talk, I am not telling you anymore.”

“Fine, do not say it, I did not really want to hear it anyway.”

Song Qing rolled her eyes and turned around huffily.

Lin Mo did not want to receive another glare from the professor.

After class, she poked Song Qing.

“Tell me?”

Song Qing snorted, but a raging fire of gossip immediately lit up in her eyes.

“This internship activity was known as the Matchmaker Event in the past.”

“Most of the seniors who go for the internship come back and get married directly.”

“Many people find their partners during this internship activity.”

Lin Mo’s heart skipped a beat.

She seemed to have just filled in ‘strong female’…

Lin Mo asked nervously, “Can I still change it now?”

“You cannot change it, everyone only has one chance, and the preference form is not allowed to have any corrections.”

Song Qing shook her head.

“However, it does not matter if you filled it out wrong.”

“Many people return from the internship and become arch-enemies, fighting whenever they meet.”

“So, fate is a very mysterious thing.”

Whether she was picked up by a strong female to be kissed or to be beaten, both felt terrifying!

Lin Mo was a bit frantic.

“Why did you not say so earlier?”

Song Qing saw the spiritual energy gathering on Lin Mo’s head into a small bamboo shoot that was slowly growing, so she quickly comforted her.

“Hey, do not get excited, you are growing a shoot on your head.”

“And you did not ask me earlier, do you ever check the school forums?”

“What shoot?”

Lin Mo touched her own head and suddenly felt something soft underneath.

Her heart trembled.

She tremblingly took out her phone and opened the camera.

A section of a small, light green shoot had sprouted from the top of her head.

Lin Mo pulled it hard, but it would not even budge.

It was over.

Would she be treated as a monster like this?

Lin Mo anxiously pulled Song Qing.

“Quick, come over and help me pull it out.”

Song Qing immediately pressed down Lin Mo’s hand.

“Why are you pulling it? Bamboo grows shoots in May.”

“It will fall off naturally when it matures in July, it will not affect you.”

“If you pull it now, are you not afraid of going bald?”

Lin Mo’s mouth fell open in shock.

“Bald?”

“Yes, this shoot is the excess spiritual energy in your body.”

“If you suddenly pull it out, a part of the spiritual energy in your body might be dragged out with it.”

“Some of your leaves might wither, which means going bald.”

Song Qing explained solemnly.

Going bald was truly heart-wrenching.

Lin Mo decisively pulled her jacket out from the desk drawer and pulled the hood tight to cover the tip of the shoot, leaving only her two dark, round eyes visible.

“Are you sure it will fall off naturally in two months?”

“Yeah, that is what the books say.”

Song Qing nodded.

“It is quite cute, why are you covering it up?”

“If you do not like it, you can find a panda to help you nibble it off.”

Lin Mo clutched her hood and shook her head frantically.

Do not think she did not know; pandas loved eating bamboo the most.

She was afraid she would be nibbled until her skin was bare.

“It is fine, it is already the year 9012, spirits are very friendly to each other.”

Song Qing patted Lin Mo’s shoulder and handed her phone over.

“If you need to, you can post a thread on the school forum.”

Lin Mo took the phone.

Just as she was about to say no, her eyes were attracted by a hot thread marked in red on the forum.

[Digging into whose hands the Taotie Academy’s Iceberg Goddess, Mo Jin, will fall in this internship.]

At the top of the thread was a profile picture of Mo Jin.

The image was very blurry, obviously a candid shot.

This thread had been posted twenty minutes ago and had already been bumped by hundreds of floors.

[1st Floor: The Goddess’s aura is too strong, no one dares to take a photo of her front. The original poster is really brave to take a side profile.]

[2nd Floor: It looks like there is another person next to this photo. I beg with a blood-petition to find out who has the guts to stand beside my Goddess.]

[3rd Floor: Judging from the corner of the clothes, it seems to be the school uniform of the junior year of our academy.]

[4th Floor: Holy fck, holy fck! Based on the posture, it seems like the Goddess is doing a wall-slam! I am dying, I cannot stop thinking about it. Which b*stard plucked the flower on the high peak!]

[5th Floor: My blind guess is Bai Yu. He and Mo Jin both participated in the junior group mental arithmetic competition and won second place, only five points behind Mo Jin.]

[6th Floor: Looking at the shadow on the wall, the other person is very petite. I feel it should be Lin Mo. She was a specially recruited student in our academy the first two years. Her strength is great, and her beauty is high. If they can team up, I am shipping this CP. (Screenshot)]

The screenshot was a photoshopped image of her and Mo Jin.

They really did look like they had some chemistry together.

Lin Mo covered her face.

This generation of netizens was too amazing; they could identify her just from the corner of a sleeve.

Mo Jin looked icy cold.

If she teamed up with her, she felt she could die on the spot.

Song Qing leaned over.

“Little Bamboo, what are you looking at?”

Lin Mo quickly exited the page on the phone, turned off the screen, and guiltily stuffed it back to Song Qing.

“I was not looking at anything.”

Song Qing gave a playful smile.

“Are you thinking about some handsome guy again?”

“What are you talking about? I am not talking to you anymore, I am going back to the dorm.”

Lin Mo picked up her books and walked directly around Song Qing.

Early the next morning, Lin Mo went to the designated school location to gather with her roommate.

After checking that she was not carrying any prohibited items, Lin Mo was assigned to a separate, enclosed teleportation array.

Directly in front of the teleportation array was a special machine with a liquid crystal screen showing the rules and matters of concern.

Lin Mo pressed the confirmation button, and the special machine spat out an electronic robot that looked like a little bee.

As soon as her hands gripped the little bee, a rumbling sound echoed, and the teleportation array started immediately.

Lin Mo felt a wave of dizziness before her eyes and tightly closed them.

When she opened her eyes again, she was standing in a desert.

What met her eyes was a scene of withered desolation—a desert stretching as far as the eye could see, scattered rubble, and yellowed, withered weeds interspersed throughout.

The little bee robot in Lin Mo’s hand was blown into the sky by the yellow sand sweeping across the horizon, wobbling unsteadily in mid-air.

With a pop, the little bee robot extended two robotic arms and two robotic legs.

The swaying in the air decreased slightly, and it began filming the surrounding environment.

Lin Mo spit out sand with a bitter face.

So much for experiencing nature and helping little spirits; in this terrible and harsh environment, let alone spirits, there was not even a human figure.

Lin Mo looked up at the sun.

The sun had just risen not long ago, so the time should be the same as it was at school.

Now, she was surrounded by the same desert on all sides, along with an electronic robot that served no purpose.

If she could not accurately judge her position, the best course of action was to walk south to see if she could walk out of this desert and find a place with water.

Lin Mo identified the direction and walked straight ahead.

It was not until the sky grew dark that Lin Mo saw a large area of coniferous forest and low shrubs.

Finally, it was not the desert anymore.

Hope instantly ignited in Lin Mo’s eyes.

A place with abundant vegetation meant the presence of water, but it also meant more signs of life and lurking dangers.

She needed to be more careful while walking.

Lin Mo picked up a thick, dry branch from the ground and snapped it with force.

After confirming the flexibility was okay, she picked it up to use for self-defense.

She used the dry branch to push aside the thick shrubs, causing rustling fallen leaves to drop in a layer.

She stepped onto the soft soil mixed with fallen leaves, making a cracking sound.

“Meow!”

Lin Mo’s footsteps stopped.

A small animal with bright yellow-brown spots darted past her like a ball.

The thick shrubs seemed to be lifted like a wave in the sea, and in the blink of an eye, the small animal’s trail was submerged.

She did not even have time to be on guard; the other party was clearly much more timid than she was.

Lin Mo lightly patted her chest and continued walking.

The further she went in, the more she discovered that this coniferous forest was far more complex than it appeared.

Twisted vines wrapped around the trees like giant pythons, forming a solid, thick net.

It was easy to get scratched by the barbs on the vines while passing through.

Lin Mo’s hands had already been scratched with five or six small cuts.

In the evening, the sky turned dark very quickly, and the moonlight could not penetrate through.

It was so dark in the coniferous forest that she could not even see her own hand.

Lin Mo’s current vision was stronger than a normal person’s, but she could only see blurry shadows.

Moreover, her legs felt like they were filled with lead, and she could not continue moving forward.

Lin Mo had not drunk water all day, and her spirit was exhausted.

She forced herself to clear a small patch of open ground next to a giant tree.

Snakes and insects liked to crawl through the grass; clearing an open area could avoid their intrusion to a certain extent.

After finishing the cleaning, Lin Mo sat down with her back against the large tree.

The small shoot on the top of her head was as wilted as Lin Mo was.

Only after the tip of the shoot touched the giant tree did it slowly begin to stretch out.

At night, the blood-sucking mosquitoes and insects were incredibly annoying, buzzing and crashing into things without a moment’s rest.

Lin Mo could not rest.

The wilted small shoot tip squeezed out a few more drops of spiritual energy.

A cluster of new leaves sprouted from the tip of the small shoot, helping to drive away mosquitoes above Lin Mo’s head.

Lin Mo hugged her body tightly, curled into a ball, and closed her eyes tightly.

She was very afraid of the dark, and she also feared the feeling of walking forward alone.

During the day, she was busy walking and had no time to think, but as soon as she stopped at night, this feeling of fear shrouded her heart once again.

She had walked such a long way and had not encountered her teammate.

She did not know if her teammate had encountered danger.

Suddenly, a burst of hurried friction sound came from the darkness.

Lin Mo opened her eyes.

Not far away, there was a huge black shadow.

She could not tell what kind of beast it was, so she firmly gripped the wooden stick in her hand.

Sizzle.

A trace of firelight appeared next to that black shadow, and then it burned into a small ball of fire.

She did not know what that black shadow had done, but that small ball of fire turned into a larger one.

The black shadow was stretched even longer and larger.

Lin Mo stared intently at that black shadow, tightening her grip on the defensive wooden stick, wary of it suddenly rushing over.

After a while, a familiar fragrance came from the direction of the black shadow.

Lin Mo’s nose sniffed forcefully.

It seemed to be the fragrance of roasted meat.

There was the crisp sound of crackling firewood burning, along with the aroma of roasted meat.

It enticed the gluttonous worms in Lin Mo’s stomach to almost crawl out.

Fierce beasts all ate raw meat and did not know how to make fire.

Could it be that a person was roasting meat, or a spirit was roasting meat?

Lin Mo thought for a moment, then lightened her footsteps and circled around.

Under the flickering firelight, Mo Jin’s profile, clear and cold like an immortal, was reflected.
