Chapter 20: A Familiar Quarrel and a Hidden Identity

Su Yun watched the two women bickering endlessly, a sense of familiar déjà vu washing over her. In her eyes, the two seemed to have transformed.

Lin Shuang now appeared as a vibrant, lively, yet sharp-tongued and irritable girl, while Lin Xue had become a mature and beautiful young woman.

Their argument resembled a daughter clashing with her mother: one was impatiently foul-mouthed, while the other remained cool, every word carrying a tone of reprimand.

As their argument escalated, Lin Shuang suddenly moved without warning, lunging for Lin Xue’s hair. However, their minds were connected, and the moment Lin Shuang harbored the thought of striking, Lin Xue reacted instantly.

She twisted her head, dodging the grab, and simultaneously retreated a few steps.

“Lin Shuang, stop making a scene! Su Shimei is right here. Aren’t you embarrassed?” Lin Xue chided.

Upon hearing this, Lin Shuang glanced at Su Yun, only to see her staring wide-eyed in astonishment. A wave of embarrassment washed over her, and she let out a cold hmph, barely managing to suppress her temper.

“Fine, for Su Shimei’s sake, I won’t bother with you for now. But I’m warning you, if you ever badmouth me in front of others again, I won’t even show Master any respect,” Lin Shuang sneered.

Observing them, Su Yun was now absolutely certain that these two women, like her, were transmigrators from another world. Moreover, they were highly likely her former fiancée and sister.

This conviction stemmed from the peculiar language they had just uttered—English, a foreign tongue from their original world.

It was impossible for anyone in this world to know the word ‘b*tch,’ which roughly translates to an insult calling someone a ‘slut’ or ‘whore.’

‘Heaven truly has a twisted sense of humor, turning them into twin sisters. Isn’t this just deliberately tormenting them? No wonder the earlier contact felt so familiar; it was the unmistakable presence of my wife.’ Su Yun’s emotions were incredibly complex at that moment.

Her fiancée and sister from her previous life stood before her, alive and well. Yet, she was unsure what identity to use when meeting them, or if she should pretend not to recognize them and observe for a while.

And now that she was a girl, how could she possibly explain this to her fiancée—or rather, her wife? Su Yun hadn’t yet figured it out.

After a moment of hesitation, she decided against revealing herself for now. It seemed better to interact with them as a stranger, under her new identity.

Chiefly, these two women had given her enough headaches in her previous life, especially Lin Shuang. Lin Xue, on the other hand, had no choice in the matter.

In her past life, Lin Shuang had also wanted to marry Su Yun.

Back then, Lin Shuang was a university student with a year left until graduation, while Lin Xue was already a company employee.

To force Lin Xue and Su Yun apart, Lin Shuang would cause all sorts of trouble, resorting to crying, making a scene, and even threatening suicide. No one could reason with her.

Eventually, Lin Xue couldn’t bear it any longer. She and Lin Shuang actually ran to a rooftop, intending to force Su Yun into making a final choice.

Of course, they had both been completely blinded by anger at the time. Su Yun had rushed over and painstakingly managed to persuade these two troublesome women to come down.

But perhaps even Heaven couldn’t stand it any longer, for a bolt of lightning descended directly, striking all three of them dead.

“Eh? Senior Sisters, please don’t argue anymore. You’re sisters; can’t you talk things through? Shouldn’t twin sisters be very close?” Su Yun asked awkwardly.

The moment Su Yun mentioned this, Lin Shuang couldn’t help but complain.

“Su Shimei, you might not know this, but Lin Xue and I aren’t just twins; we share a Twin Lotus Body. Our minds are naturally connected. Whatever she thinks, whatever she says, and whatever she feels—I can empathize with it all.

Just now, when she was badmouthing me to you, I heard every single word. How could I not be angry?”

Su Yun’s expression turned even more astonished upon hearing Lin Shuang explain their shared consciousness.

‘Good heavens, these two are connected by mind? With such completely different personalities, and a feud from their past lives, how can this ever work? Wouldn’t they fight and argue every single day? Forget it, I’ll just keep my identity hidden.’ Su Yun grew even more afraid.

She could easily imagine what would happen if the two women discovered her true identity.

“Lin Shuang, that was *our* secret! How could you just blurt it out?” Lin Xue fumed.

Compared to Lin Shuang, Lin Xue, as a mature woman in her previous life, harbored far more secrets.

Seeing the two of them about to start arguing again, Su Yun quickly intervened to mediate.

“I, I promise not to reveal your secrets, Senior Sisters. Oh, by the way, weren’t you two supposed to take me through the initiation process?”

Reminded by Su Yun, the two women merely snorted at each other, ceasing their dispute.

It had always been like this in their past lives; they would argue the moment they met, and Su Yun always had to play the peacemaker.

Su Yun couldn’t favor either of them. One was her sister—though not biological, their emotional bond was akin to it. The other was her wife, which made it even more impossible to take sides.

She could only advise Lin Xue to be tolerant each time and privately reprimand Lin Shuang. Lin Xue, for her part, had no choice but to concede again and again, for she was the elder sister-in-law.

“Sigh! You’re right, I almost forgot. Come on, Su Shimei, I’ll take you to get initiated. She’s so dilly-dallying; she doesn’t seem like someone capable of great things,” Lin Shuang said, scoffing at Lin Xue. She then grabbed Su Yun’s hand and pulled her into the pavilion.

“Oh? And you have the nerve to say I badmouth you behind your back? You’re no better, six of one, half a dozen of the other, you ignorant little trickster girl,” Lin Xue muttered a complaint, watching Lin Shuang enter the disciple management office.

She only grumbled that one line before following them in, clearly annoyed.

“Sigh! Why am I stuck with such a sister, such a sister-in-law? What did I, Lin Xue, ever do wrong, to be tormented like this?” Lin Xue sighed to the heavens.

One could only say that Heaven had a twisted sense of humor. Yet, this was already a blessing; at least Heaven hadn’t made Su Yun and her twin sisters. That would have been truly chaotic.

As it was not the Spirit Sword Mountain’s disciple recruitment period, the disciple management office was mostly empty, with only a few inner sect disciples handling affairs.

“Eh? It’s Junior Sister Lin. Is there anything you need?” The female inner sect disciple behind the counter greeted them with a smile, seeing Lin Shuang leading a red-robed girl.

Although she was an inner sect disciple, she was still an ordinary one. In terms of status, she certainly couldn’t compare to direct disciples like Lin Shuang, Lin Xue, or Su Yun. Direct disciples, provided they didn’t encounter any future issues, were destined to become leaders of the sect.

“Yes, I’ve brought Junior Sister Su Yun here to complete her initiation procedures,” Lin Shuang stated, pulling Su Yun to the counter and addressing the female disciple inside.

The inner sect disciple paused in surprise.

“Initiation? Was she specially recruited by the sect? And which Elder has she apprenticed under?” The female disciple naturally had to inquire for registration purposes.

“She’s under Elder Lei Yan of Artifact Forging Peak. Elder Lei Yan has accepted her as a direct disciple,” Lin Shuang replied.

The female disciple’s astonishment only grew upon hearing this.

Artifact Forging Peak currently had no direct disciples. Furthermore, she was even more surprised that Elder Lei Yan had taken such a cute and delicate girl as a disciple.

It was well known that Artifact Forging Peak only recruited disciples with talent in artifact forging, meaning this young girl would become an artifact forgemaster in the future.

“This… Artifact Forging Peak? No way,” the female disciple said, utterly bewildered.

“Anyway, that’s how it is. Hurry up and process her initiation,” Lin Shuang urged again.

Despite her astonishment, the female disciple immediately began registering Su Yun’s personal information.

She asked Su Yun some basic details, such as her date of birth.

After completing the registration, the female disciple turned and entered a room, seemingly searching for something. However, after a short while, she returned looking awkward.

“Um, Junior Sister Su, my apologies. We don’t have prepared attire for female direct disciples of Artifact Forging Peak here. You might have to wait a while. I’ll need to explain the situation to the sect and have a custom-made set for you.”

The female disciple returned to the counter and explained to Su Yun, looking rather embarrassed.

Artifact Forging Peak had never had female disciples, so it naturally wouldn’t have their attire.

Su Yun could certainly understand this.

“No worries, I can wait,” Su Yun replied.

The woman gave an awkward smile, then presented Su Yun with a token, a ninth-rank supreme-grade flying sword, as well as the Spirit Sword Mountain’s basic cultivation technique—the Spirit Refining Condensation Art—and the Sword Control Art.

Su Yun quickly accepted the items, her face beaming with delight. The first step on her path of cultivation was now complete.
