“Was it you who struck my subordinate?”
“It was me.”
“Hmph, don’t imagine that your good looks grant you permission to strike my woman whenever you please! Speak, what kind of compensation do you propose? Unless you’re offering several million, this incident isn’t going to be resolved today!”
With Ji Wenyan obstructing his view, Ren Hao couldn’t quite see the beautiful woman standing behind him.
A wave of vexation washed over him, compounding his initial disappointment.
Thus, the words he uttered now unmistakably revealed his resolve to relentlessly pursue the matter.
Upon hearing this, Wen Ruo secretly rejoiced, ‘That detestable woman, Bai Mengze, has finally met her downfall here today.’
Ren Hao possessed more than just wealth; his uncle was an exceptionally influential figure, acquainted with many of U City’s most powerful individuals.
His presence at the mall today was to accompany Ren Hao’s uncle on a casual stroll, a prearranged meeting to foster their acquaintance.
Wen Ruo had paid a considerable price to secure this meeting with Ren Hao’s uncle, sacrificing not only her body but also a substantial amount of money. Yet, she believed it was all profoundly worthwhile.
Rumor had it that a highly successful novel was soon to be adapted into a film, with Ren Hao’s uncle slated as the chief director.
If she could secure a supporting role, perhaps fame would finally be within her grasp!
Once she successfully entered the entertainment industry and ascended by attaching herself to more influential figures, she could easily discard Ren Hao, that odorous, corpulent man.
The thought of her glorious future made Wen Ruo want to burst into song. However, for now, she needed to deal with that vile woman, Bai Mengze.
Despite her youth, she possessed an undeniable knack for seduction.
Ren Hao’s lecherous gaze moments ago had certainly not escaped her notice.
The sight filled Wen Ruo with a fierce desire to scratch Bai Mengze’s face, ensuring she could no longer entice men day after day.
“Ptooey!”
‘Vixen.’
‘Why didn’t she die in a car accident alongside her parents!’
‘But once I’ve dealt with Bai Mengze and then climbed my way up to Young Master Liang, he’ll be even more influential than Ren Hao’s uncle!’
‘Even securing the leading female role would be as easy as flipping a hand.’
Standing opposite Ren Hao, Ji Wenyan found himself barely suppressing a laugh after hearing the portly man’s pronouncements.
‘A single slap demanding millions in compensation? Was Wen Ruo’s face crafted from diamonds?’
‘That excessively cosmetic-enhanced face, caked with layers of powder, now merely shed flakes of it with every smile.’
‘Even if he were given permission to strike her for free, he wouldn’t deign to touch it.’
“Heh.”
Before Ji Wenyan could even vocalize his amusement, a sudden burst of laughter erupted from directly behind him.
Ji Wenyan involuntarily raised an eyebrow, then watched as Bai Mengze deliberately stepped out from behind him, confronting both Wen Ruo and Ren Hao without the slightest hint of fear.
As Ji Wenyan glanced her way, Bai Mengze’s face had reverted to the same chilling indifference he’d witnessed upon their first meeting. It instinctively brought back the sensation of being shoved into the swimming pool the previous night.
Cold. Shivering. Utterly hollow.
Now, Bai Mengze was truly incensed!
“What kind of garbage are you? Wen Ruo’s worth millions? You must be delusional with greed!”
“I am Ren Hao, the Syrup King of U City, and my family is incredibly wealthy! Not only do I own seven properties in U City, but I also possess two residences in B City, and my uncle is a renowned director…”
“…”
Yet, just as Ji Wenyan braced himself for an escalating confrontation, something felt amiss.
Something was distinctly off.
Despite Bai Mengze’s exceedingly impolite remarks, Ren Hao didn’t fly into a fit of rage. Though his face maintained a semblance of anger, his mouth rapidly began to enumerate his personal wealth.
Instead of preparing for a brawl, he seemed more like someone on a blind date.
Bai Mengze was equally bewildered, utterly unsure of Ren Hao’s intentions. The man’s greasy, lingering stare filled her with profound distaste, making her long to deliver a swift beating.
Similarly, Ji Wenyan was taken aback, never having expected such cunning from the portly man.
He intended to leverage his financial power to subtly brainwash Bai Mengze!
Alas, Bai Mengze was hardly a materialistic woman.
Despite his immense wealth, Bai Mengze harbored no desire to approach him. In fact, she had resorted to a small fabrication just to elicit a modicum of sympathy.
‘As for Ren Hao, that greasy, corpulent man, he should just go cool off somewhere!’
“Ren Hao, what the hell are you even saying?! This woman struck me; aren’t you supposed to avenge me?”
“Cough, cough, am I not helping you right now? I need to declare my assets first, to make her truly afraid, to make her realize she’s provoked someone she shouldn’t have.”
“I don’t care! You absolutely must send her to prison today! She inflicted physical harm upon me; this cannot simply be brushed aside!”
Before Ren Hao could continue his meticulous inventory of assets, Wen Ruo, who had been standing silently beside him, suddenly interjected.
Her gaze, as she spoke, was venomous, fixed intently on Bai Mengze.
She resembled a venomous serpent, poised to strike its chosen prey.
“Bai Mengze, your parents are already dead, and you’ve managed to offend Young Master Liang. Do you genuinely believe you can continue to live peacefully in U City? Haha, I’m doing this for your own good now. If you confess to charges of fraud and assault, you could spend a good few years in prison.”
“You’re insane.”
“Hmph, if you meekly enter prison, you might still cling to life for a few more years. Otherwise, in a mere few days, you’ll be joining your deceased parents six feet under!”
Listening to Wen Ruo’s words, Ji Wenyan felt a surge of surprise.
He couldn’t fathom the depth of animosity between her and Bai Mengze, to warrant such venomous words.
There wasn’t even a shred of familial affection in her tone!
Or perhaps… she believed Ren Hao’s presence provided her with an unshakeable backing.
Did she truly believe Bai Mengze wouldn’t dare strike her?
“Wen Ruo! I’ve wanted to hit you for ages! Before, my parents held me back, allowing you to escape. Now, let’s see where you’ll run!”
Upon hearing Wen Ruo invoke her parents once more, Bai Mengze’s expression turned even colder. The instant the words left her lips, she surged forward, directly charging at Wen Ruo.
Immediately, the distinct thud of fists meeting flesh reverberated through the air.
She held nothing back.
‘Damn!’
‘Bai Mengze must have undergone some training; otherwise, her combat prowess couldn’t possibly be this formidable!’
As Ji Wenyan listened to Wen Ruo’s loud wails, he simultaneously made a mental note: he would need to exercise extreme caution whenever lying to Bai Mengze in the future!
‘If she ever found out, he would be utterly finished!’
