Chapter 21: You are unworthy

Swish!

Three sharp slicing sounds echoed one after another. A dozen heads of demonized beastmen spun through the air, blood

gushing onto the ground like a fountain.

A high-level warrior skill!

Kain muttered quietly.

“Meteor Triple Slash.”

In the middle of the demonized beastmen formation, Kain gripped his greatsword with both hands and held it

horizontally in front of his chest. With a loud shout—

“Full Moon Whirling Slash!”

He twisted his waist violently. His body spun like a full moon, and the greatsword began to whirl around him as its center.

From the tip of the blade, a white arc of sword energy several meters long shot out.

In the blink of an eye, the ground was littered with corpses.

Most of the demonized beastmen were over three meters tall. Kain, standing more than 1.8 meters himself, swung the

massive sword in wide arcs, slicing the beastmen cleanly at the waist.

At the same time, Gerald charged ahead on horseback, arriving before the 137 knights. He raised his three-meter-long

lance high into the air.

“Knight Corps Formation Skill—Burst Charge!!”

“Burst Charge!!”

With Gerald’s furious roar, all 137 knights shouted in unison. At that moment, it was as if their bodies and their horses

had become one.

A powerful gust of energy exploded forward, led by Gerald.

With an earth-shaking roar—

The 137 knights charged behind Gerald, piercing into the ranks of the demonized beastmen like a sharp sword.

Wherever they went, beast heads flew, corpses piled up, and everything was crushed in their path like withered branches

underfoot.

At the front, Gerald’s conical lance was now impaling the bodies of three demonized beastmen.

Black blood sprayed onto the ground and splashed over the knights, but none of them cared.

Their bright silver Sanctum Knight armor was blessed with divine enchantments.

Though it couldn’t fully block the corrosive black blood, it gave them temporary resistance to its effects.

The first strike of this war made it seem like humanity had gained the upper hand right from the start.

However…

These fifty thousand demonized beastmen were nothing more than cannon fodder for the Demon Race.

As Gerald and the 137 knights cut through from one side of the beastmen formation to the other—

At the very center of the enemy formation stood a figure nearly three meters tall. Unlike the other beastmen, she looked

like an enlarged human woman.

Her seductive face was now twisted with furious rage.

“Kain!!”

“Oh, it’s Sister Martha. Forgive my rudeness,” Kain said coldly, his tone laced with mockery.

Martha trembled with rage. She nearly lunged at him on the spot to tear him apart.

“Ah, right. I forgot—you’re not human. My mistake.”

That line, paired with the memory of how she had just begged for mercy in front of Zuka, stabbed into Martha’s mind like

a relentless drill.

The pain of humiliation made her want to devour this ugly knight alive.

But she didn’t act.

Because this man in front of her… was a Level 50 Guardian Knight.

Even if demonized beings could sometimes fight humans ten levels above their own, they couldn’t possibly span a 20-

level gap and win against a Guardian Knight.

Standing so close to Kain, Martha felt fear rising within her.

Yet, questions crowded her thoughts.

Kain was supposed to be stationed in the southern part of the city—why was he at the west gate?

Where was Celes, who was supposed to be the contact?

And no alarms had sounded inside the city, so why were there so many Sanctum Knights here?

“Why are you in the west city?”

Martha felt she needed answers. Facing this Sanctum Knight, she instinctively slipped back into the assertiveness she had

when she was still a nun.

“The truth is…”

“What is it, then?!”

“…I can’t tell you.”

Martha blinked in confusion, looking lost—perhaps still not used to her recent change in identity.

“Truly sorry. Even if you really want to know… I can’t tell you.”

A vein bulged on Martha’s forehead. Her eyes widened in fury. Her beautiful face was now completely twisted with rage.

“You’re mocking me!!”

“No, I mean it.”

Kain replied calmly. With a flick of his wrist, a flash of silver light struck down a demonized beastman that had tried to

ambush him—its head rolled to the ground.

“You’re not worthy.”

The silver greatsword spun slowly in his hand. The black blood dripping from it left a trail across the ground.

“Your sins can only be forgiven by death. If you die quietly, I’ll make sure it’s painless.”

“And what if I say no?”

“Then I’ll just make it quicker for you.”

Martha swore angrily.

Was there any difference either way?

But Kain had no interest in listening to her curse.

With a sudden burst of speed, he launched himself forward, becoming a streak of silver light.

In the blink of an eye, he appeared in front of Martha, raising his silver greatsword high into the air.

In just one moment, he could have cut off her head.

Terror filled Martha’s eyes. She tried to run—but there was no time!

The sword was too fast. Her mind realized what was happening, but her body couldn’t react in time.

But just then, a massive three-meter-long saber suddenly swung in, blocking the path of the silver greatsword!

With that blade in the way, it was now impossible for Kain to decapitate Martha.

But Kain had no intention of letting Martha—this traitor to the divine and to the Saintess—go easily, even if he couldn’t

take her head.

In an instant, he changed his technique.

“Crescent Twin Flash!”

His silver greatsword clashed with the massive saber. Seeing this, Martha’s eyes lit up with hope.

But in the very next second, the silver blade suddenly curved, bypassed the giant saber, and sliced up through Martha’s

body from below.

Slash!

An arm spun through the air. Kain dashed past Martha and came to a stop.

Martha stared in disbelief at her severed arm. After two seconds, the intense pain finally hit her brain.

Her high-pitched scream echoed across the battlefield.

“Heh. Pathetic. You couldn’t even take one strike.”

Heavy footsteps pounded the ground, shaking the earth. A dark shadow loomed over Martha.

She gritted her teeth against the pain and looked up.

The beastman in front of her towered far above the others—like a wall of flesh.

It stood motionless before her.

“Pathetic thing. Do you still remember what you were told to do?”
