“At ease! Attention!”
The drill sergeant’s booming voice had a clear invigorating effect, especially on the still-drowsy girls in the first row, specifically Su Cheng.
Su Cheng’s heart leaped with the sergeant’s shout, instantly becoming much more alert, but her thoughts still drifted miles away, dwelling on Yin Xuelian.
Even though they had kissed and Yin Xuelian had confessed, Su Cheng hadn’t given a direct answer, so it shouldn’t count as them being together, right?
She had used a vaguely defined punishment, and Yin Xuelian probably wouldn’t figure it out anytime soon.
Perhaps today would give Yin Xuelian some peace.
But what about Lin Shiyue behind her?
At this moment, Lin Shiyue was staring at Su Cheng with an extremely resentful gaze.
That resentment was like tangible cold air, penetrating the thin camouflage uniform and precisely piercing the back of Su Cheng’s neck.
It was also the kind of resentment one felt seeing their spouse cheating with a mistress.
Even as Su Cheng tried her best to straighten her back and look at the drill sergeant’s serious face, she could clearly feel those two gazes, silently accusing, clinging tightly to her back.
The skin on the back of Su Cheng’s neck tightened slightly, as if countless tiny holes were being pricked by invisible needlepoints.
She didn’t dare to turn around, or even adjust her standing posture significantly, fearing that a subtle movement might detonate the accumulated emotions of someone behind her.
“Today, we’ll start with goose-stepping. Left… turn!”
Su Cheng immediately broke into a sweat, secretly rolling her eyes at the sergeant.
‘He really knows how to pick his moments!’
Su Cheng was forced to turn her body according to the command, her stiff body moving jerkily like gears that hadn’t been oiled in years.
Her gaze turned ninety degrees, inevitably meeting Lin Shiyue’s for a fleeting moment.
With just one look, Su Cheng’s heart plummeted.
Lin Shiyue’s eyes, usually as calm as still water, were now like an icy pond veiled in mist, unfathomably deep.
There were no flames of anger, only a chilling coldness.
Her lips were pressed white, stubbornly taut, and her jawline was rigid, as if she was trying hard to suppress something.
That look seemed to question Su Cheng: ‘What exactly were you doing with Yin Xuelian?’
Su Cheng quickly fixed her gaze on the back of another classmate in front of her, but her heart pounded uncontrollably in her chest, beating even faster than when she was startled awake by the sergeant’s shout.
“Quick march… go!” The drill sergeant’s command sounded again.
Su Cheng stepped forward, trying to keep pace, but the plastic track beneath her feet felt unusually sluggish.
Lin Shiyue’s silent gaze made her feel more scorching and tormented than the blazing midday sun.
Her mind was in a mess.
Why was Lin Shiyue staring at her like this? Did she see her and Yin Xuelian kissing?
Or was she simply angry because she had been taken away by Yin Xuelian this morning?
No one could give her an answer unless she dared to ask Lin Shiyue, but Lin Shiyue was definitely angry right now.
The squad marched across the drill ground, but Su Cheng felt as if she was trudging through an invisible thorny bush, each step landing on an unknown minefield, and the detonator was Lin Shiyue, goose-stepping beside her.
During the break, Lin Shiyue found Su Cheng immediately.
“Su Cheng, tell me honestly, where did you and Yin Xuelian go for breakfast this morning? I searched the whole cafeteria and couldn’t find you two.”
Lin Shiyue grabbed Su Cheng’s hand, preventing her from thinking about running away.
Su Cheng looked up, instantly meeting Lin Shiyue’s curious and displeased gaze.
‘There’s no escaping this one.’
“Senior sister took me to a noodle shop outside the school to eat noodles, what’s wrong?”
Lin Shiyue stared at Su Cheng, who was tilting her head slightly, seeing her indifferent expression, and an inexplicable surge of anger rose in her heart.
She dragged Su Cheng to a place far away from the crowd.
“Hey, hey, class monitor?”
Lin Shiyue stopped, turned around again, and stared coldly at Su Cheng.
“You two ate noodles for that long?” Lin Shiyue’s voice was much lower, like an ice-tempered needle, carrying a cold accusatory tone.
Su Cheng still forced a calm expression; she had experienced many such storms.
As the saying goes: the bigger the storm, the more expensive the fish!
“There were a lot of people eating noodles; we waited more than ten minutes to get our food.”
Lin Shiyue snorted, tightening her grip on Su Cheng’s lotus-root-like arm, her gaze still as cold as black ice.
“Then tell me, how did your mouth get swollen from eating noodles?”
Su Cheng’s heart subtly dropped with a “thud,” secretly thinking, ‘This is bad.’
‘How could my mouth be swollen? Is it because of the kiss with Yin Xuelian just now?’
‘Even if it is, I can’t say it.’
Su Cheng awkwardly touched the back of her head, and said in a low voice, “Well, that’s because what I ordered was too spicy, and it swelled my mouth, hehe~”
Su Cheng deliberately blinked twice to act cute, but Lin Shiyue, at this moment, only wanted to buy her a clock.
‘Still lying, still fabricating, good, good, good.’
Lin Shiyue’s eyes instantly became even darker, like a surging ink sea before a storm.
That extremely subtle and abrupt pink color was a color that belonged entirely to someone else.
Although they had only had brief contact that morning, Lin Shiyue had long recognized it as Yin Xuelian’s color!
She almost gritted her teeth, asking word by word, “Eating noodles, and still manage to get Yin Xuelian’s lipstick on you?”
Su Cheng’s heart plummeted! ‘Darn it!’
‘TND, how did Lin Shiyue find out?’
‘I clearly checked with a selfie, and I didn’t see anything.’
“D-Do I? You must have seen wrong?”
Su Cheng’s throat tightened, her mind racing, but she couldn’t come up with any reasonable explanation.
Lin Shiyue’s gaze was like a physical shackle, firmly pinning her in place.
Any subtle lie seemed to be instantly pierced by those sharp eyes.
Su Cheng nervously licked her somewhat dry lips, trying to erase the “evidence,” but as she raised her hand to wipe her mouth, Lin Shiyue reached out and stopped her.
Lin Shiyue watched Su Cheng’s evasive eyes and tell-tale small movements, and the nameless fire in her chest ignited completely with a “whoosh.”
She firmly gripped Su Cheng’s wrist.
Su Cheng winced in pain, as if bitten fiercely by a mad dog, unable to shake free.
“Su Cheng!” Lin Shiyue’s voice suddenly rose, filled with unbelievable anger, disregarding the current setting.
“Do you really think I’m stupid?! What exactly were you two doing?!”
Several resting classmates nearby were attracted by the sudden commotion and cast curious glances their way.
Su Cheng’s cheeks instantly burned, half from the panic of being caught, and half from the scorching heat of the almost- Erupting flames in Lin Shiyue’s eyes.
“We… didn’t do anything, just had breakfast.”
Lin Shiyue gritted her teeth, wishing she could hang Su Cheng up and interrogate her right now.
“Su Cheng, who are you kidding? Do you take me for a blind person?”
“Look at how distracted you are…”
“You and her, were you…?”
Lin Shiyue’s voice cut off abruptly, realizing that her actions had already attracted the attention of those around her.
She still wanted to save Su Cheng some face.
This roller-coaster-like scene allowed Su Cheng’s heart, which had been in her throat, to settle back down.
Lin Shiyue controlled her agitated emotions, lowering her voice to a level only Su Cheng could hear.
“Were you… kissing…?”
The last two words, Lin Shiyue practically whispered into Su Cheng’s ear, squeezing them out with an extremely suppressed yet sharply painful tone.
The sound was like a ten-thousand-year-old ice pick, plunging fiercely into Su Cheng’s eardrum.
Su Cheng said nothing, but the shock in her eyes and the guilty wipe of her mouth were, at this moment, more eloquent than any words.
Lin Shiyue’s gaze changed completely; the previous resentment and coldness were replaced by an almost frenzied anger.
She stared intensely at Su Cheng, her chest heaving violently, as if she was about to erupt into an even more intense questioning at any second.
Su Cheng’s face was now filled with fear; if the situation continued to escalate, Su Cheng truly didn’t know how to resolve it.
‘It’s over, it’s over! Sister, I beg you, don’t ask anymore! Or someone, please save me!’
But the drill sergeant’s sudden whistle seemed to press the pause button.
Lin Shiyue’s unspoken words froze in her throat, shattered by the whistle.
Lin Shiyue’s face transitioned from anger to disappointment, and finally to calm.
The coldness in her eyes dissipated, and as she lowered her head, she weakly released Su Cheng’s wrist.
Su Cheng rotated her wrist, which bore red marks, casting a grateful look at the drill sergeant in the distance.
‘Bro, solid!’
Lin Shiyue suddenly let out a bitter laugh, then raised her eyes again to look directly at Su Cheng.
“You abandoned me before, and if you choose that again this time, I won’t agree, and I won’t allow it.”
“At least, your first time is mine.”
Lin Shiyue gave Su Cheng a meaningful final glance, carrying a hint of unyielding determination, then turned and walked towards the main group, who were lining up one after another.
Su Cheng swallowed hard, letting out a long sigh, feeling a sense of relief as if she had escaped a disaster.
‘Anyway, escape whenever you can…’
But Su Cheng felt that such days were truly difficult.
