“Trends in Global Infectious Virus Infections”
20XX, April 3, Consolidated Data from the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare, the US CDC, and the WHO.
This document pertains to the novel infectious mutant virus, colloquially referred to as the ‘Zombie’ virus. Due to the partially sensitive nature of the content, caution must be exercised regarding external disclosure.
The mode of transmission identified to date is airborne. Excluding a small number of personnel satisfying specific conditions of airtight enclosure and isolation, 99.999(omitted)% of the world’s population is already confirmed as carriers.
Carriers are largely divided into three categories. The virus, after incubation, begins with mild cold symptoms and headaches in the infected. Approximately 60% of the global population (exact estimation is impossible) are classified as Primary Immune, experiencing no significant impact on their lifespan. Approximately 10% exhibit symptoms of severe fever, paralysis, and convulsions, ultimately leading to death. Finally, the remaining 30% are confirmed to mutate into what is colloquially known as ‘Zombies.’
The symptoms of zombie mutation occur randomly, irrespective of gender, race, or age.
Even Primary Immune individuals, though the virus has ceased additional activity, remain potential carriers. Upon death for any reason, they will revive as ‘Zombies.’ This also applies in the event of contact with the active virus through wounds inflicted by ‘Zombies.’
As of now, no Secondary Immune individuals, unaffected by the now active virus, have emerged, and the development of a cure is also facing significant external problems.
As of the second week of the virus outbreak, it is estimated that at least half of the world’s population has already died. The pace of research progress is simply unable to keep up with the speed of transmission and mortality.
It’s a world more messed up than I thought.
Airborne infection with practically the entire world population already carriers; a sudden, rapidly progressing situation with an unprecedented surge in fatalities; and the suspension of treatment research and development following the collapse of world governments.
Military forces nearly wiped out from the start, and an extremely small number of survivors due to the prolonged situation.
To top it off, even among zombies, Mutants are now gradually appearing and wreaking havoc.
“Hmm…”
“222?….”
Perhaps starting as a zombie was a divine move.
If you analyze the contents of the other documents, they are nothing short of ‘Human Defeat & Extinction.’ For example,
‘Declaration of Martial Law and Military Movement Plan’
From the outset, military hospitals were a disaster. Due to a lack of military beds, each unit ended up accommodating patients on their own. When hell unfolded outside, things were no different within the military.
The only units that succeeded in remaining intact were a handful of regiments or battalion-sized units, not corps or divisions. The president was dead, and with the prime minister temporarily succeeding him, even the top military brass wasn’t spared from the virus, resulting in a command structure that was a mess.
In the end, most units failed to integrate and were destroyed independently.
Still, the question remains: how could South Korea, which bet everything on the Army’s firepower, have collapsed to this extent? It seems they simply couldn’t withstand the crippling manpower shortage, the chaotic command structure, the virtually terminated supply lines, and on top of that, the Mutant crisis.
No, if anything, South Korea, with the government remaining in existence for nearly two months even in this situation, is on the better side.
The file states that neighboring China and Japan couldn’t last even a month and were completely annihilated.
The last line of the document does say that all the remaining successful forces should gather on islands like Jeju Island or Ganghwa Island…
Since this is a document from four months ago, it’s questionable whether they even survived, and even if they somehow did, it’s impossible to know if they are okay.
Anyway, although it doesn’t resolve all my questions, I’ve sufficiently accomplished the purpose of coming here.
It took me nearly half a day just to read the disorganized document files on the table, signaling that night was already falling and the day was coming to an end.
“Grrr….”
“Alright, you’ve worked hard today too.”
Having used the Lure skill, which had since worn off, I left s*ave Unit 1, who had become more active as night fell, in the spacious president’s office.
‘Clunk’
“See you tomorrow.”
“Grrr?”
You should be satisfied since I locked you up in a room with a great view and plenty of space, just for you.
‘Crash!’
Of course, it didn’t take long for me to realize that that was a mistake.
A very ominous sound echoed through the building while I was looking for useful items on each floor a little away from the 6th floor to prepare for a smooth departure the next day.
‘Ha, that crazy bastard…’
I never imagined that s*ave Unit 1 would break the window and escape to the exterior wall of the building. It was a misjudgment on my part.
Under the broken window, only the luggage bag was left alone, endlessly waiting for its owner.
There’s no other way, um um.. !.. Ah…
I barely managed to stop thanks to the thought of the guy who would be on the 1st floor.
“Alright, let’s see how well you do after abandoning me, damn it! I hope you get sick before you even go ten li.” (Korean saying, meaning won’t get far)
Grumbling, I spread out the sleeping bag.
I looked all the way from the 7th floor to the 3rd floor, but there was nothing else to take in this building anyway.
Food is useless to me in the first place, but in the rooms I checked just in case, there were only torn combat ration bags and canned food rolling around,
Ammunition also had only empty boxes and cartridges scattered everywhere. There were a few usable guns, but there was no need to take any more since I had a fully-modded K1A submachine gun.
In the case of explosives, there were only a few grenade safety pins or Claymore detonators left over after they were all used.
I cursed s*ave Unit 1, who had now been freed from his baggage-carrying servitude and left to find happiness after throwing off all shackles and restraints, and forced myself to sleep.
(“Kaaa!!”) Still, a porter as good as s*ave Unit 1 won’t be easy to find…
(“Krr!!”) Well, even if it’s a fallback option, he’s kind of out of the question.
“Ah, life is exhausting…”
And so, the day passed.
‘Beep! Beep! Beep!’
‘AM 5:55’
I prepared to move to the next place after organizing the bed, where I had barely slept, at the sound of the alarm announcing a new morning.
Based on the information obtained here, the next place I plan to go is a hospital and a government-affiliated research institute.
Perhaps the hospital, which would have housed the most patients in the early stages of the situation, would have had just as many diverse cases, and I’m planning to obtain additional information that would have been processed at the research institute based on that.
The information in the files at the broadcasting station isn’t a small amount by any means, but it’s only important information that has been summarized, so there’s a chance that details have been omitted or the latest information that couldn’t be transmitted due to communication problems is still there.
Of course, it also includes farming experience points with the zombies that will be swarming in the hospital.
‘Peek’
I checked the situation outside through the broken doorframe of the stairwell on the 1st floor.
“Ggrrr….”
“Ugh….”
“” Grr….”
Perhaps because it had passed quietly all night, most of the zombies were wandering in place, half-dazed.
Which means…
“Krr….”
Okay, let’s slip out quietly at this chance.
Be careful not to attract attention.
‘Trickle…’
Avoid that cartridge rolling over there,
‘Squeak…’
Be careful not to step on the furniture, which is all broken and only has wreckage left.
“Krr….”
Don’t even brush past the surrounding zombies, okay, I’m halfway there now.
“Krr….”
If I just pass this guy who is standing still without even moving his head…
“Krr?…”
Why are you there, Unit 1?
Unit 1, whose waist was folded in half and was in shambles, was held in his hand.
Unit 1, who discovered me passing carefully, turned his head grotesquely to look at me…
‘Shake shake Shake shake’
He shook his head desperately, but…
“Kyaaak!! Kak!!”
“Ah, sh*t.”
“Krr!!!”
The guy lets out a scream, whether it’s joy or cheer, after seeing me.
The zombie apocalypse tour in the middle of the city, with the self-proclaimed s*ave Unit 2 walking in a circle while carrying a zombie with his ankles grabbed and dragged like a rug and one riding on his shoulders, and a zombie horde following behind…
Where am I, you ask?
“Krr….”
I just said, I’m that zombie riding on his shoulders.
For reference, I didn’t use the lure skill on Unit 2, he’s just holding Unit 1 and carrying me on his shoulders on his own, okay?
The zombies following behind are because I just didn’t want to let the zombie hordes I saw on the way go, so I used the lure skill…
‘Invest in your child!’
A faded billboard hanging on the street I was passing by, a father and daughter are smiling brightly while riding on shoulders.
Something seems to be contrasting with me, so I feel like I’m going to die of shame like this.
“Die, you pedo freak! Lolicon!”
“Krr….”
It’s even more annoying that kicking him with my feet and punching him with my fist doesn’t do anything.
Ugh…
Save me…
