Chapter 26: Yuxiu hits someone

Zhong Yuxiu detested her deskmate Zhao Xixia’s rudeness, especially her derogatory nickname for Lin You.

In a fit of anger, the girl reported her to the head teacher on the spot.

The result was beyond Yuxiu’s imagination.

The teacher’s criticism of Zhao Xixia was perfunctory. She gave them a simple lecture outside the classroom and let the matter drop.

Not only did Zhao Xixia’s arrogance not subside, but she began to mock Yuxiu even more brazenly.

‘I have to tell Mom when I get home.’

Yuxiu clenched her little fists, planning to seek her family’s help.

In the corner of the classroom.

Lin You had been worried ever since he realized Yuxiu and Zhao Xixia seemed to be in conflict.

Subconsciously, he felt that this unique girl, Zhao Xixia, was not someone to be trifled with.

The thought of his only friend being bullied made the boy desperately want to do something.

‘It’s purple. Yuxiu must be sad.’

Lin You would cast concerned glances in Yuxiu’s direction from time to time.

He noticed that the light above Yuxiu’s head had changed.

On top of the green that represented friendliness, there was now a touch of melancholic purple.

The combination of the two colors silently indicated that his friend was sad.

Lin You’s heart clenched. If it weren’t for the fact that they were in class and couldn’t move around freely, he would definitely have gone to the girl’s side to offer his comfort and support.

‘Ah, her gaze is so scary.’

Just as Lin You was staring intently at Yuxiu’s back, her deskmate, Zhao Xixia, turned to look over.

For an instant, their eyes met.

Lin You felt contempt, disgust, and a warning, among other things.

Such a complex gaze should not have appeared on a first-grader.

Lin You hastily averted his gaze and lowered his head nervously.

Someone was worried, someone was troubled, and the distribution of school uniforms continued in the classroom.

As the class was nearing its end, it was finally Lin You’s turn to go to the podium to receive his uniform.

“Small size, two sets.”

The P.E. teacher measured the boy’s size and handed him two sets of uniforms wrapped in clear plastic bags.

“Thank you, Teacher.”

Lin You thanked her in a small voice, clutching the blue and white uniform tightly.

Turning to go back, Lin You couldn’t help but look in Yuxiu’s direction.

Yuxiu was in the first row of the second group. This was the closest they had been during class time since the seating change.

And Yuxiu had been watching Lin You ever since he went up to the podium.

The two friends exchanged a silent glance.

The boy’s eyes, and even his expression, showed clear concern.

Yuxiu’s pretty face squeezed out a faint smile, and she even made an “OK” gesture to reassure him.

Although her conflict with Zhao Xixia had been very unpleasant, the girl didn’t want to trouble Lin You with it.

‘There’s still a little bit of purple above Yuxiu’s head. She just doesn’t want me to worry…’

If Lin You didn’t have his special ability, he would have most likely been fooled by Yuxiu.

‘Hehe.’

Lin You knew the truth but chose to play dumb, returning a smile.

“Tsk, a freak like you shouldn’t smile. Take a look in the mirror and see how scary you are.”

Just as Lin You and Yuxiu were having their secret interaction, Zhao Xixia’s harsh whisper shattered the beautiful moment.

Lin You’s expression froze. He quickly lowered his head and quickened his pace back to his seat.

Yuxiu’s eyes widened. The usually quiet and sensible girl felt the urge to raise her fist and punch someone.

“What, are you getting mad now?”

Zhao Xixia showed no restraint, continuing her provocation with a nonchalant air.

“Shut up, you super rude and annoying person.”

Yuxiu’s clenched little fist ultimately did not fly out.

If she really hit her, she would lose the moral high ground.

Ring ring ring.

The end of class finally arrived.

The students had successfully muddled through another period, and many of them were all smiles.

Break time.

Going to the bathroom, buying snacks, or gathering in groups to chat about the latest popular cartoons…

Lin You just wanted to talk to Yuxiu alone, but in the noisy classroom, there was no opportunity. He felt awkward about going over.

While the boy was still hesitating, it was Yuxiu who walked over openly, completely ignoring the strange looks from their classmates.

“Youyou, don’t worry. The teacher helped me deal with Zhao Xixia. I’m fine.”

Zhong Yuxiu had come to understand the boy’s personality to some extent. Knowing that he must be worried about her, she came over specifically to explain.

“Really? That’s great. Yuxiu, you should go back now. The other students are watching you.”

Lin You knew the girl must be in a bad mood, but it wouldn’t be right to call her out on it, so he could only pretend to be in the dark.

“Let them watch. I like talking with Youyou.”

Yuxiu had been feeling down because of Zhao Xixia, but after chatting with the boy for a few sentences, her mood visibly improved.

As for the consequences of getting close to Lin You, she had long been mentally prepared.

“Don’t, just go back. I have to read my book. I don’t have time to talk to you.”

Lin You really didn’t want to drag the girl down, and his tone became anxious.

“Alright then.”

Yuxiu couldn’t win against him and had no choice but to leave the boy’s seat.

Returning to the first row of the second group, a face she detested came into view.

It was Zhao Xixia, who was once again wearing that cat-and-mouse expression.

“Haven’t you noticed? A lot of people are laughing at you.”

Zhao Xixia’s eyes narrowed, her rosy little mouth moved slightly, and she proactively started a malicious topic.

She had also seen Yuxiu go over to talk to Lin You.

The arrogant Zhao Xixia couldn’t understand why Yuxiu and Lin You seemed to have such a good relationship.

In her eyes, the two were not a match in any way.

“…”

Yuxiu didn’t want to deal with her and just picked up a textbook to read.

“I’m talking to you. Are you mute? Then I’ll just have to go chat with that red-face.”

A delicate little hand pressed down on Yuxiu’s textbook. Zhao Xixia was angered by her being ignored.

“You dare…”

Yuxiu, who had been calm, immediately flared up when she heard that Zhao Xixia seemed to want to cause trouble for Lin You.

“So it’s true. You really do care about this red-faced freak. What an oddball.”

The mockery in Zhao Xixia’s voice grew stronger.

It was as if making fun of Yuxiu and Lin You was an interesting game to her.

Smack…”

Just as Zhao Xixia was being肆无忌惮, a loud slap interrupted everything.

Yuxiu could no longer tolerate Zhao Xixia’s repeated provocations and, for the first time in her life, resorted to violence.

In an instant, the slap drew the attention of all the students.

Even Zhao Xixia’s expression froze.

“You hit me? You actually— smack…”

Zhao Xixia’s face turned cold, and she decisively slapped her back.

“…”

Zhong Yuxiu didn’t dodge and just took the hit.

And just like that, both of their cheeks were left with bright red handprints.

“Ah, Yuxiu is fighting with her!”

Lin You was stunned. He never would have thought that the quiet Yuxiu would actually resort to hitting someone.

With no time to worry about gossip, Lin You got up from his seat, pushed past the crowd of onlookers, and went to the girl’s side.
