Waking up, Luoyao felt sore all over.
She carefully lifted Noah’s arm off her, trying not to make a sound.
But the sharp vampire stirred anyway.
“Mmm… getting up?” Noah mumbled, eyes still closed.
Her lazy, sultry voice outdid any alarm.
Luoyao could never get enough of it.
She rolled over gently, lying beside Noah.
Fiddling with her silver hair, she said, “Yeah, time to get up.”
“Hungry~”
Noah moved to pin Luoyao’s shoulders, ready for “breakfast.”
Last night, they agreed: satisfy Luoyao first, then Noah.
“Wait, wait, hold on.”
Noah frowned. “What? Backing out?”
“No,” Luoyao sat up, explaining. “Can we do it tonight or this afternoon? I want to finish work this morning.”
“Doing it later’s fine,” Noah pouted, gripping Luoyao’s wrists, looking pitiful.
“Be good, it’ll be quick. Let me work now, and if I’m fast, you might get my blood by morning.”
Daytime vampires were easy to sway.
Their brains, like their bodies, were sluggish, not keen on thinking.
So Noah didn’t push further.
She hummed twice, rolled over, hugged the Miffy rabbit, and went back to sleep.
Cute as a giant baby.
But only by day.
As soft as Noah was in daylight, she was relentless at night.
Luoyao smiled, patting her head.
She got out of bed, opened her laptop, and logged into her freelance platform.
The client’s chat showed they hadn’t been online.
Luoyao clicked her tongue, muttering, “Haven’t logged in for days…”
She wasn’t worried about the client ghosting.
The platform required payment upfront, and artists like Luoyao, verified with real names, faced penalties for late submissions.
But if the client stayed offline, who’d confirm receipt of her work?
If it wasn’t confirmed, the platform would mark her as overdue, with fines.
Luoyao fretted but decided to finish the draft first.
Opening her drawing software, she glanced guiltily at Noah on the bed.
Good, the smug vampire was fast asleep.
If she saw Luoyao drew a character identical to her, paired with one modeled after Luoyao…
She’d die of embarrassment!
Noah would think she’s some kind of perv!
Just imagining Noah catching her made Luoyao’s toes curl into the floor.
“Draw fast, finish, and no worries!”
After psyching herself up, Luoyao added the final details to the draft.
The client paid $2,000—she had to put in extra effort.
When focused, Luoyao lost track of time.
Over two hours passed without notice.
As she paused to rest, Noah’s voice rang out.
“Luoyao!”
“Ah! What? You scared me…”
Luoyao minimized the drawing to the taskbar, terrified Noah would see.
It felt like sneaking adult videos in her room, only for her mom to barge in, scrambling to switch to the desktop.
“Luoyao… my Luoyao… hehe… sweet little feet, let me nibble…”
Luoyao: ?
“Don’t go, waa, don’t go, let me have a few more bites~”
Noah rolled over, squashing the Miffy rabbit, drooling on its long ears and the pillow.
“…Talking so loud in your sleep! Annoying!”
Luoyao stuck out her tongue at the dreaming Noah, took a short break, then resumed work.
Another hour of tweaks, and the draft was done.
She checked the platform—the client’s icon was still gray.
Their last login was two days ago.
Luoyao packed the draft into a folder and sent it, attaching a message:
[Client, the draft’s done. Please confirm receipt when you’re online.]
As she sent it, a ding echoed in her bedroom.
Luoyao jolted, looking around, then checked her phone.
No new messages.
“What made that sound… my imagination?”
Probably a hallucination.
She didn’t dwell on it.
Ten minutes after sending, no confirmation from the client.
Luoyao sighed inwardly.
She’d have to contact platform support later.
Idly, she scrolled through her chat history with the client.
She found the “anime Noah” she’d sent before.
Studying the draft, she glanced at Noah’s sleeping face.
It was too alike.
“See? My skills are pretty solid.”
After a moment of smugness, a bold idea hit her.
She peeked at Noah, confirming she was still out.
Carefully, she dragged “anime Noah” onto “anime Luoyao’s” canvas.
The two virtual figures drew closer under her mouse.
Since “Luoyao” was posed slightly turned, head tilted, it looked like she was leaning on “Noah’s” shoulder.
Staring at the cozy virtual pair, Luoyao’s girlish heart fluttered.
She felt shy but couldn’t stop looking.
“Should’ve drawn Noah a bit spicier…”
“Not spicy enough, huh?”
“Yeah, yeah, I thought—wait? …Wait?! When did you wake up, you jerk vampire?!”
