[I can’t… take it anymore…]
“Here, Xue, try the bamboo shoots. They’re delicious.”
Yixin Xue’s bowl was already piled high, but Yan Xi kept adding more.
“The lamb rolls, coated in chili powder, taste amazing.”
“Yan Xi… this isn’t right…”
Ling Yuan whispered, “Yixin Xue can’t handle spicy…”
“Oh?”
Yan Xi feigned surprise.
“You know her so well?”
“No, I… I can do it…”
Sweat or tears—hard to tell—dripped down her flushed face onto the table.
Yixin Xue could no longer feel the spice. Her mouth and tongue were numb, but her throat and stomach burned fiercely.
“It hurts so much…”
As she stubbornly reached for more meat, Ling Yuan grabbed her wrist. If he didn’t stop her, she’d end up in heaven.
“Stop eating. You can’t handle spicy. This is bad for you.”
Despite her blank expression, her agony was clear.
“I can…”
Her eyes were unfocused. For someone who couldn’t handle spice, lasting this long was a miracle, driven by her rivalry with Yan Xi.
“Don’t push yourself.”
He snatched her chopsticks, glaring at Yan Xi.
“You went too far.”
Yan Xi just kept eating, a smug smile on her face.
[What am I gonna do with you?]
He sighed, getting up to grab a large yogurt for Yixin Xue. She seized it like a lifeline, chugging it down.
Even a whole cup didn’t help much against the spice.
“Ugh… I can’t… Chilies are terrifying…”
She slumped on the table, groaning in pain.
But Yan Xi, now in control, wasn’t done. She smiled sweetly.
“So, Yixin Xue, the hotpot’s good, right?”
Her dazed eyes refocused. Sitting up slightly, she fought through the burning.
“Delicious. Let’s do it again sometime.”
“Great.”
Just then, Yan Xi’s phone rang. It was Uncle Wang.
“Hm? Uncle Wang, what’s up?”
She answered reluctantly.
“Miss, your father’s furious. You skipped piano lessons again this morning. He wants you there now. I’m coming to pick you up. Where are you?”
Piano lessons… She’d skipped a few, hadn’t she?
She pouted.
She didn’t want to leave her brother with this dangerous girl, but skipping again would enrage her mother.
“At Yida Plaza. I’ll head to the bus stop.”
“Alright, Miss, I’m on my way.”
She hung up, glaring at Ling Yuan.
“I have lessons. I’ll be back tonight.”
Her tone screamed: [You better be there when I get back.]
“Uh, got it…”
After Yan Xi hurried off, he asked weakly, “Class President, you okay…?”
“Ugh… I almost died…”
She lifted her head, her icy gaze making him lean back.
“Are you two a couple?”
“No way!”
He denied instantly.
“We’re just siblings…”
“No blood relation, yet you call each other siblings?”
He scratched his head awkwardly.
“We’re from a blended family, but she treats me like her real brother.”
“I see. Quite a threat.”
She nodded thoughtfully.
“Who’d guess you and Yan Xi are family? Unbelievable.”
One was the bottom of the class, the other third in the grade.
“Let me treat you to something else. You barely ate.”
He rubbed his forehead.
“Consider it an apology for Yan Xi.”
“This hotpot…”
She wiped her face, lips still burning.
“It’s the scariest food I’ve ever eaten… You don’t feel the spice?”
He wiped oil from his mouth casually.
“I’m used to spicy. This is maybe medium compared to Chongqing or Sichuan. Their extra spicy is what gets me.”
“Medium…?”
Her eyes went blank.
[That’s nthat bad…?]
“What do you want to eat?”
“Uh… something not spicy…”
Too terrifying… Another bite, and her mental defenses would collapse completely…
“Milk tea? Might help with the spice. You look done for.”
He oddly found her a bit silly. This was a pointless, unwinnable contest…
“Yes…”
Her throat was so scorched she could barely speak, teetering on the edge of death.
“Let’s go.”
He shouldered her cat bag. Despite the noise, Xinxin Meow slept soundly, oblivious to the world.
And honestly, it was. (QwQ, feels like nonsense, not sure, give it a sniff.)
“No need to pay…?”
“Yan Xi already covered it. No worries.”
[Besides, she can afford it.]
His lips twitched. This meal was nothing compared to her figurine spending.
“Alright…”
She steadied herself, catching up to him.
“Um…”
“What’s up, Class President?”
“If possible… full sugar… iced… with coconut jelly, grass jelly, pudding…”
Seeing his shocked look, she smiled sheepishly.
“It’s so spicy… I need something sweet…”
Unbelievable. All that for spice relief? For a girl with a perfect figure, her fearless sugar intake was shocking.
Taking the milk tea, she gulped it down, then shyly turned away, letting her bangs hide her face.
“Don’t stare…”
Her muffled voice was soft, unclear if she wanted him to hear or not.
The proud, icy Class President? Nope—now a perverse, shy one.
He turned away, smirking.
She’s not that scary. Tch, that’s all.
Suddenly, his shirt was tugged. Before he could react—
Their lips met.
Her cold tongue slipped into his mouth, greedily stealing his breath.
[Class President! This is the milk tea shop entrance!]
