Chapter 28: The Elusive Good Samaritan

“So, this is the stuff.”

Meng Linna placed her personal Marigold Potion on the desk.

“Sells decently, but not exactly a goldmine. Hmm…”

Miao Miao Niya eyed the liquid in the glass bottle, a bit annoyed.

“So it’s really that effective?”

To Miao Miao Niya, this potion, rivaling healing spells, was a devil.

One silver coin a bottle, portable, drink and done.

Her spell-based healing gigs were doomed to take a hit.

“Wait, wait! I never said it was super effective! It’s limited. Small fractures at best. Nothing more!”

Meng Linna knew her potion wasn’t a miracle cure.

It wasn’t an instant full-heal elixir.

She’d tested it on the unconscious Na Naya.

It was for quick sips to avoid losing combat ability after an arm injury.

Or to barely cling to life after heavy wounds.

She’d stressed this to everyone.

If someone mistook it for holy water and died, she’d be in deep trouble.

After explaining to Miao Miao Niya, the catgirl nodded vaguely.

“So, it’s got limited healing?”

“Exactly. For serious injuries, you need proper treatment. It can’t replace medicine or healing spells.”

Miao Miao Niya sighed in relief.

If it couldn’t heal severe wounds, her business was safe.

Her healing started at three silver coins.

Low-rank adventurers only came for serious injuries.

It wouldn’t hurt her much… right?

“But for bad wounds, it could help before a spell, yeah?”

Miao Miao Niya picked up the potion.

“You don’t need this right? Sell it to me?”

Meng Linna hesitated.

“Uh, sure.”

Miao Miao Niya handed over a clipped silver coin.

“…”

Meng Linna finished her milk tea and left.

Aside from lunch and a nap, she spent the day brewing potions.

Adventurers were crazy for Marigold Potions.

They’d stock up after jobs in the afternoon.

With that in mind, she set up her stall in the hall.

“Any feeling?”

Miao Miao Niya held an adventurer’s hand.

“Does this hurt?”

“No feeling.”

“Looks nearly severed. Five silver coins to fix.”

Miao Miao Niya put on glasses, looking doctorly.

But around her neck was a holy seal, not a stethoscope.

“You can reattach it?”

“Of course, unless you don’t pay.”

Miao Miao Niya sat patiently, smiling.

“Fine.”

The adventurer gave in.

It was his hand.

Miao Miao Niya’s price was cheap.

He gritted his teeth and paid five silver coins.

She smiled, pulled out big scissors, and clipped a corner off a coin.

Then tossed it in a drawer.

That’s how Meng Linna’s clipped coin was made.

Na Naya, arriving, saw it all but stayed silent.

She’d come to confirm something with Miao Miao Niya.

Someone beat her to it.

She waited.

“Mambo mambo oh majiri mambo!” (TN: Umamusume reference?!!)

Miao Miao Niya chanted.

The adventurer’s near-severed arm slowly healed.

Fully restored.

Ignoring his excitement, Na Naya perked up.

That chant was familiar.

B-rank Greater Recovery spell?

Only elder priests learned that.

How did a guild receptionist know it?

That scumbag Meng Linna wasn’t lying…

Na Naya shook her head, clearing her thoughts.

She wasn’t the Tribunal. Why care?

“Keycap?”

As the adventurer left, Na Naya sat across from her.

“Haha, fancy meeting you here.”

A non-cleric using spells, caught by a saintess candidate.

Even a sly dog like Miao Miao Niya got nervous.

She didn’t even correct the “keycap” jab.

“You’re the guild receptionist. It’d be weird not to find you here.”

Na Naya rolled her eyes.

“I’ve got business.”

“Oh.”

Miao Miao Niya blinked, relieved.

She wasn’t pursuing the spell issue.

“Did your files cover all A-rank adventurers? I checked. No matches.”

Her saintess candidate values demanded she repay her savior.

But this Good Samaritan was impossible to find.

Like they were hiding.

Her system was useless for intel.

Good for gear or spells, but not this.

Miao Miao Niya shrugged.

“Yanan’s A-rank adventurers are all there. But I can’t get data on out-of-town A-ranks.”

She was just a receptionist.

Getting local A-rank files was already a stretch.

“Fair.”

Na Naya nodded, then saw the Marigold Potion on the desk.

“What’s this? Lots of adventurers have it.”

“You don’t know?”

Miao Miao Niya looked shocked.

“It’s your favorite scumbag’s potion!”
