Chapter 29: Mission, Partner, and…

Xia Xingli had not expected her next mission to come so quickly.

“I don’t even have a weapon.”

“Does an A-rank ability user need a weapon to deal with humans?”

She was stumped by Sven, who used her own previous words against her.

“Although I also think that since you’re a student now, the higher-ups shouldn’t be throwing all sorts of missions at you, my personal opinion doesn’t have any effect. You still have to do the mission.”

Xia Xingli stared at Sven with a blank expression.
The latter looked as if it had nothing to do with him, spreading his hands and shrugging.

“Then at least tell me the specific requirements of the mission. Just ‘investigate the point transfer incident,’ and then nothing else?”

Sven sighed helplessly. “My dear lady, if you have any objections, go report them to the higher-ups. I’m just a messenger. It’s useless to tell me.”

Xia Xingli understood that Sven was right.
He was just a messenger, not the person in charge of this mission.
But Xia Xingli just had some nameless anger that she had nowhere to vent, and she couldn’t help but want to lose her temper.
She had never seen such a vague, brief, and irresponsible mission.
The mission requirement was only one sentence, with no details on what she was supposed to investigate, no information on the incident, and not even the area to be investigated was disclosed.
Such an unreliable mission was simply unbelievable to Xia Xingli.

What’s more, the events of last night left a lingering resentment in Xia Xingli’s heart.
Although, judging from the results, the higher-ups of the “Guardians” seemed to be protecting her, it could also be a form of surveillance.
If it was surveillance, it meant distrust.
Although Xia Xingli could understand this distrust, being able to understand didn’t mean she was indifferent to it.

Her current identity was Xia Lixing’s younger sister, the younger sister of the pseudo A-rank ability user who had dedicated his life to the future of humanity.
Although he wasn’t a hero, he was at least a warrior.
And as his sister, Xia Xingli had to live under the surveillance of her own people.
Even this strange mission might have been deliberately used to make things difficult for her, which was something Xia Xingli found hard to accept.

Perhaps she herself didn’t realize that she was now subconsciously thinking of the former Xia Lixing as her older brother.

“Then I just won’t do it. A completely nonsensical mission. I only recently heard about the ‘Point Transfer Incident.’ Without even any information, is this a mission or just making things difficult!”

The more she thought about it, the angrier she got.
Xia Xingli simply jumped off the chair and, ignoring Sven’s helpless expression, turned and walked to the office door, slid it open, and rushed out.

Then, Xia Xingli felt herself crash head-on into something soft.

“Oof…”

“Ah—”

Staggering back two steps, Xia Xingli rubbed her slightly sore little nose and looked up in the direction of the short scream.

The first thing she saw were two mounds of fat that, while not enormous, were quite full.
They trembled slightly with their owner’s movements, making Sven behind her stare wide-eyed.
Moving her gaze upwards, Xia Xingli saw a slightly flushed little face and a head of light blue hair.
The long blue hair was divided into two strands, the ends tied with two blue rubber bands, which swayed to her chest with their owner’s movements.

“S-sorry, are you okay…”

Before Xia Xingli could come back to her senses, this girl apologized first, carefully examining her expression.

The girl’s voice was very soft, so soft that Xia Xingli could just barely hear it.
Although it was obvious that the girl was not primarily responsible for the accident just now, she still looked very nervous, as if she had done something wrong.

“I’m fine, it didn’t hurt much.”

Putting down her hand that was rubbing her nose, Xia Xingli carefully examined the girl in front of her again.
This timid-looking girl seemed to be only fifteen or sixteen years old.
She wasn’t tall, but her chest was very well-developed…
Her delicate little face still had a lingering blush.
Although she was wearing the “Guardian’s” long coat, it unexpectedly showed off her figure well.
Especially her full chest, contrasted by her slender waist, made Xia Xingli inexplicably angry.

“Um… that is… are you Lady Xia Xingli?”

It seemed that Xia Xingli’s undisguised gaze made the girl very shy.
She blushed and asked in a stuttering, soft voice.

“…I am Xia Xingli, yes. What is it?”

Being called “Lady Xia Xingli” by a girl older than her made Xia Xingli a little uncomfortable.

“I… I am your partner for this mission. Um… my name is Cicalis, a B-rank ability user… my… my ability is ‘Shadow Shuttle’… ah, um, the name the Professor gave might be too strange, it just means I can move and hide in shadows…”

Although she spoke with a stutter and was all over the place, the girl’s speaking speed was surprisingly fast.
Before Xia Xingli could react, she had already rambled on and told her everything about her identity, rank, and ability.

“…My address is…”

“Wait, wait! Don’t say such personal information!”

Hastily stopping the dazed girl named Cicalis from continuing to expose her personal information, Xia Xingli couldn’t help but hold her forehead and sigh.

‘Why is my partner a naturally clumsy and shy girl!’

Before Xia Xingli could catch her breath, Sven from the other side suddenly slid over to the two of them, knelt down on one knee, and gazed at Cicalis with eyes full of affection.

“Hello, Miss Cicalis.
My name is Sven, a B-rank ‘Guardian,’ currently serving as a temporary teacher at ‘Light of Hope.’ I am currently single, own a house in the central area, and my base annual income is…”

“That’s enough!”

Sven didn’t get to finish his self-introduction.
An enraged Xia Xingli sent him flying with a kick.
Amidst Cicalis’s bewildered little scream, Sven traced a graceful arc across the office, crashed through the glass, and flew out.
A few seconds later, the sound of a heavy object hitting the ground, along with the screams of a group of students, came from outside the office.

“Th-th-this… he seems to have fallen from the sixth floor of the office building…”

“Uh… this appearance… isn’t that Teacher Sven!”

“…You can tell even after he’s fallen like that.”

A group of students who had just finished their outdoor class happened to be passing by and gathered around to discuss.

Fuming with anger, Xia Xingli didn’t care much.
She jumped directly onto the windowsill with the broken glass and roared at the possibly dead, possibly alive Sven below.

“If you dare to lay a hand on an underage girl again, next time I’ll make you fall from an even higher place!”

Xia Xingli’s little face, red with anger, and her clothes, which were a bit messy from the large movement, were seen clearly by the students below.
They exchanged an “I see” look with each other, and their gazes towards Sven instantly became very unfriendly.
Some even looked at Xia Xingli, who was standing on the sixth-floor windowsill, with a look of sympathy.

“What are you looking at?
Scram!
And don’t touch that guy!”

After roaring a few sentences in a huff, completely oblivious to the misunderstanding her words had caused among the students below, Xia Xingli jumped back into the office and glanced at the stunned Cicalis on the side.

“Let’s find another place to talk.
I hope you can explain this mission clearly.”

After throwing out this sentence, Xia Xingli left on her own, not caring at all whether Cicalis was following her.

And neither the fuming Xia Xingli nor the possibly dead, possibly alive Sven knew that after this day, some rumors about them began to spread in “Light of Hope.”
And thanks to this incident, Sven became completely famous in the school.

“See that?
That’s Sven, the one who tried to lay a hand on his student!”

“But I heard that the little girl named Xia Xingli actually has feelings for him, she’s just too tsundere.”

Sven, the B-rank “Guardian,” finally had a rather sensational dark history in his arguably mundane life experience.

Congratulations, congratulations.
