Luoyao froze at those words.
She blinked, staring at Noah in disbelief.
Noah met her gaze unflinchingly.
One hand propped her cheek, a playful, lazy smile on her lips.
She locked eyes with her little dummy.
After a moment, Luoyao shook her head, waving a hand.
“Stop kidding. You can’t fool me, Noah You don’t even know how to order takeout on your phone. How could you commission me on a freelance platform?”
“I can learn,” Noah said, shrugging casually. “Phones aren’t that hard.”
Luoyao frowned, still skeptical of Noah’s story.
She squinted, sizing Noah up, then proposed, “Quick-fire questions?”
Noah smiled. “Sure.”
“What’s my client’s platform nickname?”
“Xiaomi.”
“Their avatar?”
“Touka Kirishima from Tokyo Ghoul.”
“Their typing quirk?”
“QAQ,” Noah said clearly, lightly clenching her fists near her eyes, mimicking a fake cry.
She answered every follow-up question about the client’s account flawlessly.
Luoyao, despite a million doubts, had to believe her.
But believing didn’t mean accepting.
She’d always pictured her client as a rich, middle-school kid.
Immature but generous.
Online, the client felt lively, chatty, and a bit too into anime, but sometimes cute.
Nothing like Noah’s pervy vibe!
How could she connect this scheming silver-haired devil with that adorable, loaded, chuunibyou client?
It was too much!
Seeing her little dummy crumble, Noah reached out, patting her head. “What’s wrong, cutie? Don’t like my duality?”
“Duality? You’re practically anti-human!”
Noah shrugged, unfazed. “I’m not human to begin with.”
“You…”
Noah had her there!
Completely cornered!
“In real life, you’re all about spicy thoughts and snatching girls. Online, you play cute, pretending to be a rich kid. Someone like you’s gonna get what’s coming!”
“I don’t know about my karma, but yours… is mine.”
Luoyao huffed. “So, you didn’t just learn phones—you’re picking up internet memes too?” (TN: Seems to be some sort of Chinese meme)
“Yup~” Noah chirped, mimicking a cutesy tone.
A sultry vampire acting cute was lethal.
Luoyao couldn’t handle it, quickly changing the subject. “Fine, fine, just log in and confirm receipt so I can get paid.”
This was her moment—a struggling artist begging for her fee.
One click from Noah, and $2,000 would hit her account in seconds.
What could $2,000 do?
Hmm…
New black contacts for Noah—her old ones could hurt her eyes.
Tons of tomatoes, so Noah wouldn’t starve when Luoyao wasn’t around.
And…
Wait.
Why was her first thought about Noah after getting paid?
Oh no.
It’s over, completely over.
She was in deep.
Her smile froze, and she slumped back into her chair.
Covering her face, she sighed repeatedly.
“I haven’t even gotten a proper confession, yet I’m falling for a non-human… I’m screwed!”
Noah blinked. “What’re you muttering about?”
“Nothing!”
Luoyao shook her head. “Come on, hurry up and confirm receipt.”
“Nope.”
“Why not?”
“Where’s the sweet-talk? You gotta butter me up first.”
Noah’s mischievous side bubbled up.
Luoyao bit her lip.
She knew this shady silver-hair was up to no good.
Noah had probably been waiting for this moment since creating that client account!
Shameless! Despicable! Smug jerk!
But—
It was $2,000, a whole $2,000!
That kind of money made Luoyao set aside shame to draw a spicy fanart of her and Noah.
Now, it could make her flatter Noah a bit.
No big deal!
“Noah, you… you’re the first sip of summer cola. The sweetest bite of watermelon core. A breathtaking beauty, a heart-stealing enchantress, you’re—”
“Alright, alright, stop, that’s too much!” Noah hugged her arms, faking a shiver. “So over-the-top, I’ve got goosebumps.”
Luoyao pouted. “What’s wrong with that? Isn’t the first sip of summer cola refreshing? Isn’t the watermelon’s core the best part? How’s that too much? I love them!”
“And ‘breathtaking beauty’ and ‘heart-stealing enchantress’?”
“…Just piling on fancy words, hmph,” Luoyao said. “Now, can I get my money, my dear client~?”
“No way~”
“Why not?!”
“One more request.”
“What request?”
Noah paused, thinking.
She glanced at the messy bedsheets, recalling last night.
She’d always been the active one.
Now that they’d moved beyond master-servant, could she… let Luoyao take the lead?
“Luoyao, how about… we switch roles?”
