X
The chaos in the square quickly spread like ripples on the surface of water.
Carlos forced himself to remain calm and directed several Shepherds to carry them into the tent.
Lilith warned Carlos again not to use the power of the Blood Contract, but only to use the method of life force infusion to keep them alive.
Then, she prepared to set off for the orphanage to find Vera.
However, the chaos did not subside.
Almost at the same time the stretchers were carried away, an even more terrified cry came from the outskirts of the town.
“Monsters! There are monsters!”
“Help! Outside the town! Lots of disgusting things!”
Several townspeople fled back in a panic.
On the wilderness behind them, some slowly writhing, dark-red, strange shapes could be vaguely seen.
Lilith’s eyes sharpened, and she led the group from the Holy Blood towards the outside of the town.
As far as the eye could see, a nauseating scene came into view.
Among the withered grass of the wilderness, about a dozen clumps of dark-red, viscous flesh, like slimes, were scattered about.
They had no fixed shape and wriggled slowly.
The strange purple-black patterns on their surfaces flickered continuously with their writhing.
Some of the flesh clumps had also grown tentacles, which waved and slapped the ground randomly, leaving behind scorched black marks and a pungent, foul smell.
Others were like pieces of rotten meat crudely stitched together, barely maintaining the silhouette of a dog-like or small wild animal.
These flesh-and-blood creations moved slowly and stiffly, with disgusting mucus dripping from their mouths.
“It’s the residual pollution from the Void Abyss, combined with the characteristics of some low-level flesh-and-blood monsters.”
Abraham analyzed the situation and gave his own speculation.
“Hmph, a bunch of trash that can’t withstand a single blow!”
Cain grinned ferociously, a bloodthirsty glint in his eyes.
But he suppressed the impulse in his heart, waved his large hand, and roared at the several knights beside him, “What are you waiting for? Crush those disgusting things into smithereens for me!”
The several Holy Blood Knights received the order and charged towards the slowly writhing flesh-and-blood monsters.
The red-glowing blades slashed at these clumps of meat, making a “pfft pfft” muffled sound.
Dark-red viscous liquid and minced meat splattered everywhere.
The corrosive liquid collided with the knights’ armor, making a sizzling sound.
The battle was without suspense.
The flesh-and-blood monsters, in front of the well-trained knights, were as easily crushed as mud.
But the process was full of visual and olfactory impact, causing the townspeople watching from a distance to let out wave after wave of dry heaves.
Lilith stood at the back, looking at the remains that were quickly annihilated by the knights, her brow furrowed tightly.
“Something’s not right…”
She whispered to herself, her voice only barely audible to Bai Jin beside her.
Bai Jin also felt that something was strange and asked Lilith directly, “These… monsters, they look like creations of the Holy Blood. Why would they attack the townspeople?”
“Low-level contractors can’t reclaim materialized life force. Some flesh and blood that isn’t cleaned up after a battle will give birth to these clumps of meat with only instinct.”
“However, Twilight Town is far from those god-war ruins, and there has never been any residual power of the Holy Blood on this land before.”
Lilith’s brow furrowed even deeper.
“This is definitely not naturally generated pollution, and they are also mixed with the power of the Void Abyss.”
Bai Jin also felt the strangeness.
“You mean… it’s man-made?”
“It can only be the God-Burying Society!”
Lilith’s voice was filled with anger.
“Only those lunatics would be so keen on using the power of the Void Abyss to influence the contracts of the gods.”
“They must have a base nearby. These monsters are probably the product of a failed experiment.”
Bai Jin also chimed in, “Or, they were deliberately released to test and create panic!”
This speculation made Lilith have a sudden realization.
The target of the God-Burying Society was herself, yet now they were creating chaos outside the town.
It was very likely a cover for a larger operation.
They were definitely planning something.
“Vera!”
Lilith remembered her original purpose.
‘So the God-Burying Society is also looking for her?’
‘No, I absolutely cannot let Vera fall into the hands of the God-Burying Society, and I certainly cannot let her abilities be discovered and used by the Holy Blood!’
“Bai Jin, let’s go!”
Lilith made a decisive decision, mounted Abraham’s horse, and prepared to go to the orphanage.
“Your Highness!”
Abraham could only ride with Cain on one horse, chasing after her.
“The situation is unclear. Please allow us to guard you!”
Lilith didn’t look back.
“As you wish! Just don’t get in the way!”
All she wanted now was to find Vera as soon as possible.
The four of them on two horses galloped on the small path outside the town.
However, just as Lilith had expected, the people from the God-Burying Society did indeed appear!
Just as they could see the courtyard of the orphanage, just as it was within sight, a sudden change occurred!
On the country path, strange purple ripples, like water waves, appeared.
Five figures in deep purple cloaks, their faces covered with pale bone masks, emerged from the ripples, instantly blocking the path in front and behind!
The leader of the God-Burying Society members let out a hoarse, twisted laugh from under his mask, “The Saintess of the Holy Blood! Come and be slaughtered!”
Buzz—!
Several purple-black energy beams shot out from their hands, aimed straight at Lilith in the front!
“Your Highness, be careful!”
Abraham raised his hand and waved.
A Blood Contract was activated, and a blood-red shield formed on Lilith’s body, instantly covering the two of them on the horse.
The shield blocked these beams, and also caused Lilith’s horse to shy and stop.
“You’re courting death!”
A furious roar exploded like a thunderclap!
Cain directly leaped up, instantly entering a combat state.
His already burly body suddenly swelled up as if inflated.
Under his exposed skin, thick blood vessels bulged like dragons, full of explosive power.
From his ten fingers, half-a-foot-long, stark white bone claws instantly shot out.
His entire person turned into a violent afterimage, and he brazenly crashed into the crowd of God-Burying Society members!
The bone claws tore through the air, carrying a mighty force, and viciously clawed at one person’s head!
If this claw were to land solidly, it would be enough to tear even armor into pieces!
However, a strange thing happened!
Faced with Cain’s fatal blow, that member of the God-Burying Society did not dodge or evade, but a purple glint flashed in the eyes under his mask.
His upper body, especially his head and chest, instantly turned into a gray mist.
Screech!
Cain’s bone claws passed through the other’s ethereal body without any obstruction, as if passing through a phantom, only bringing up a few wisps of dissipating smoke.
“Disgusting thing!”
Cain gave up on this target and turned to pounce on another person.
At the same time, another member of the God-Burying Society beside him reacted extremely quickly and swiftly cast a Void-Reality Contract.
A purple-black energy shield composed of countless twisted runes appeared out of thin air around Cain.
This contract was only to limit Cain’s movement.
“Petty tricks!”
Cain roared.
He swung his claw backhand and tore that energy shield to pieces!
Abraham did not rush into the enemy formation like Cain.
He reined in his horse and stopped, turning his head to look at the three people behind him.
The corner of his mouth curled into a cold arc.
He elegantly raised a pale hand, and his five fingers flicked gently, as if plucking a string.
A viscous, crimson blood mist spread out, then turned into several wisps, coiling towards the three of them like winding vipers.
The three people in the back were still preparing to summon evil creatures with a contract.
When they saw the blood mist released by Abraham, they cried out in alarm.
“Be careful of that blood mist! It’s a Symbiotic Contract!”
The one who reacted quickly had already turned his body into a mist to dodge.
But the two who reacted slightly slower were instantly enveloped by the crimson blood mist!
Abraham showed an almost crazed, joyful smile.
His other hand, at some unknown time, was already holding a bone dagger.
Then, before anyone could react, he, without any hesitation, plunged that dagger fiercely into his own heart!
Pfft!
Fresh blood instantly stained his clean white robe.
Almost at the same time, the two members of the God-Burying Society who were entangled by the blood mist, at the location of their hearts, a terrifying, bowl-sized bloody hole exploded out of thin air!
Fresh blood mixed with crushed internal organs spewed out!
They couldn’t even scream before they fell to the ground, stiff.
“Damn it!”
The member of the God-Burying Society who had escaped cursed out loud, looking at Abraham, who had a dagger stuck in his chest yet still wore a strange smile.
Bai Jin, beside Lilith, watched with her scalp tingling.
The sound of contract notifications echoed continuously in her mind.
The situation before her had changed in the blink of an eye.
Bai Jin wanted to seize the opportunity and try the effect of reversal in battle.
