“What’s special about this tail?”
His curious gaze landed on Yan Xi, filling her with shyness and unease, her face flushing red.
“This tail… the tail…”
She stammered, at a loss for how to explain why it couldn’t be pulled.
“Hm?”
He grew more confused.
“What’s with the tail?”
“You just can’t pull it!”
Her blush deepened, the embarrassment overwhelming.
“Then hurry and change. Bring it over later for me to touch.”
He shrugged helplessly.
“Suddenly want a fat cat. Bet it’d feel great to pet.”
“No way!”
“Huh? You’re acting weird tonight…”
Clueless, he scratched his head, studying her outfit for a few seconds.
“Oh! I get it! Is your tail…?”
“Shut up!”
She quickly covered his mouth, desperate to stop him.
Muffled, he mumbled, “Just us here, what’s the big deal…?”
“Ugh~ Brother… don’t say it… I have dignity…”
She gave a pitiful look.
The catgirl outfit was too embarrassing for the well-bred Yan Xi. Without immense resolve, she’d never wear it.
Not to mention, it was clearly meant for couples…
“Fine…”
He nodded, and she let go.
“I’m gonna change…”
Watching her retreat, he clicked his tongue.
Weird.
She’s bold enough to flaunt it against Yixin Xue…

When the 6:15 alarm blared, Ling Yuan bolted upright.
Something important… forgotten…?
“Ta-da! Big Brother!”
Yan Xi kicked open his bedroom door, the loud bang shattering his drowsiness.
“Whoa! You’re up early today!?”
“I swear, one day you’ll break the door.”
Thanks to her efforts over the past six months, the door handle had dented the wall.
She admired her handiwork, grinning proudly.
“Then we’ll get an iron door. It’ll be louder! Guaranteed to wake my lazy brother!”
“That wouldn’t wake me—it’d send me to the grave!”
He stared at her, dumbfounded. Who thinks of this stuff?
“Anyway, get up~ I made super tasty breakfast!”
He’d slept early last night, exhausted from the past two days. It felt like he’d lost years of his life. Especially since Yixin Xue started sitting in front of him.
No more carefree naps in class, no more phone games. For a slacker like him, it was torture!
At school, dawn barely broke, everything pure and refreshing.
But he frowned the whole way—from waking up, eating breakfast, to arriving at school. Something important was nagging at him.
He just couldn’t recall what.
Yixin Xue was already there, hunched over her desk, scribbling something.
“Morning, Yixin Xue.”
He greeted.
“Oh, morning, Ling Yuan~”
Hearing his voice, she looked up with a gentle smile.
“Have you finished the weekend homework?”
“…”
He froze, his hand mid-air, holding his backpack.
That’s what he forgot!
“Hm?”
Seeing his stiff expression, she knew he hadn’t done it.
“You did at least one assignment, right?”
Her tone carried a hint of exasperation.
“Well…”
Honestly, he hadn’t opened his backpack since bringing it home… It was a habit, almost second nature.
“Forgot…”
“I see…”
She nodded thoughtfully, a bit disappointed but not entirely.
“Then, as punishment, walk me home tonight.”
“!?”
Her words hit like a thunderclap.
“Wait, Class President, let’s talk this out. Don’t jump to punishments… Can’t I just do triple the homework instead?”
“Nope!”
She tilted her head proudly.
“I’m off to collect homework. No more talking.”
“Sigh…”
He slumped in his seat like a deflated balloon.
“Hey, heard the news? We’re getting a new classmate today!”
“Really? Where’d you hear that?”
“From another class. They say she’s a beauty on par with Yixin Xue!”
“True or not?”
***
A new classmate? This late? Must have some serious connections.
Bored, he lay on his desk. Well-rested from last night, he could only kill time daydreaming.
Morning reading? No clue what to read. Couldn’t even find the materials—probably lost somewhere.
Yixin Xue returned from collecting homework, seeing him spaced out.
“Ling Yuan, go clean the blackboard. We’ve got a new classmate coming.”
“Huh? Really?” His eyes widened in shock.
“Yup, go on.” She waved him off.
“Fine.”
Despite his reluctance, he trudged to the front, only for the homeroom teacher to walk in.
The teacher looked cheerful, sporting a rare smile that felt natural.
“Ling Yuan, don’t clean the board. Back to your seat to welcome the new classmate.”
[I just grabbed the eraser, and now you tell me not to?]
Grumbling inwardly, he returned, curious about this new student.
The teacher leaned on the podium, clearing their throat.
“Today, we welcome a new classmate. I hope you’ll get along and avoid conflicts… Let’s give a warm round of applause!”
Amid loud clapping, everyone except Yixin Xue gaped as Yingnan Xue entered.
“Hi, everyone~ I’m Yingnan Xue, a transfer from Slovenia International School. Nice to meet you~”
Her soft smile instantly won them over. And then…
“Wow, she’s gorgeous!”
“Am I imagining things? She looks like Yixin Xue…”
“Not just like—aside from hair color, they’re identical! Same red eyes!”
***
The class erupted, students whispering and glancing at Yixin Xue.
“Of course~ Yixin Xue and I are twins. I’m her older sister~”
Her ruby-like eyes landed on the back corner.
[Didn’t expect him to be so well-protected~]
