Don’t be fooled by Yuxiu’s frequent arguments with Zhao Xixia.
In truth, there was no deep-seated hatred between them.
As long as Zhao Xixia didn’t bully Lin You, Yuxiu could tolerate other things.
At the front of the classroom, by the blackboard, Zhong Yuxiu was solving the teacher’s problem.
Beside her, Zhao Xixia, who was also solving a problem, issued a challenge.
In response, Yuxiu’s reaction was cold; she didn’t even acknowledge Zhao Xixia.
“Teacher, I want to compete with Zhong Yuxiu on our answering speed to see who’s faster.”
Zhao Xixia was relentless and simply asked the teacher for help.
She wanted to soundly defeat Zhong Yuxiu, and she wanted Lin You to witness it.
“Hehe, competition breeds progress. That’s a good idea. Then you two can finish the problems on the board first, and the teacher will give you two more problems to compete with later.”
The math teacher smilingly agreed to the request from this student with a special background.
“Teacher, I don’t want to…”
Zhong Yuxiu heard their exchange. She was unwilling to engage in a meaningless competition with Zhao Xixia and opened her mouth to refuse.
But just as she turned to speak, she noticed Lin You’s gaze.
Refusing a competition in front of her good friend, wouldn’t that be a tacit admission of defeat?
Would it disappoint Lin You?
“I have no problem with it.”
Yuxiu changed her mind. She had to maintain her good image in Lin You’s heart and could not lose to Zhao Xixia.
The rivalry between girls often stems from a boy.
The first round of problems was quickly solved by both of them.
Completely correct.
‘So Classmate Zhao is also very smart?’
Lin You had been confident in Yuxiu; it was his deskmate’s performance that was unexpected.
The second round of competitive problems came out quickly.
The math teacher had specifically increased the difficulty. Not only was there addition and subtraction, but multiplication was also involved.
An ordinary elementary school student would be completely lost just looking at it.
‘The problem is so hard. Can Yuxiu do it?’
Looking at the super-difficult problem on the board, Lin You’s face showed worry, and a trace of concern for his good friend’s confidence appeared.
“Zhong Yuxiu, you’re going to lose badly in a moment.”
Zhao Xixia looked at the problem the teacher had set, nodded in satisfaction, and sincerely wanted to make Yuxiu look foolish.
“I won’t lose to the likes of you.”
Zhong Yuxiu looked at the problem, her brain working rapidly.
The problem was tricky, but in order not to disappoint Youyou, she absolutely could not lose.
“Begin answering.”
The two girls each occupied one side of the blackboard. At the teacher’s announcement, a question-answering competition officially began.
A high-difficulty math problem is not so easy to solve.
Yuxiu and Xixia’s answering speed was noticeably slower than before.
‘Faster, faster.’
Yuxiu urged herself on in her heart, her fingers gripping the chalk a little too tightly.
Her mentality was wrong. Eager for victory, her speed couldn’t increase and she kept making mistakes.
‘This is no match for me.’
In contrast, Zhao Xixia’s calculations became smoother and smoother, and she wrote the correct answer on the board with a flourish.
“I’m done.”
Zhao Xixia’s triumphant voice echoed in Yuxiu’s ear.
In an instant, Yuxiu’s movements froze.
‘How can she be so fast? She must have made a mistake.’
The girl didn’t want to lose to Zhao Xixia, and with a hopeful heart, she cursed her.
“Zhong Yuxiu, hurry up. Everyone is waiting for you.”
Zhao Xixia didn’t miss the opportunity to strike at her, her voice laced with mockery.
Below the stage.
‘Hey, is Yuxiu going to lose?’
Personally, Lin You hoped his good friend would win. Realizing that Yuxiu had lost to Zhao Xixia would surely not feel good, and he began to feel upset too.
“I’m done too.”
A full minute later, Yuxiu finally finished her answer.
When she turned from the blackboard to face the class, Yuxiu’s face was flushed with shame.
Especially in front of Lin You, she had actually lost to Zhao Xixia, with whom she had always been at odds.
“Very good, both of you. You can go back to your seats. The teacher will now explain the problems to everyone.”
The math teacher appreciated an excellent student like Yuxiu, so she was also looking out for her pride, not mentioning the win or loss of the competition.
Zhao Xixia just wanted Lin You to know that she was better than Yuxiu. Returning to her seat was exactly what she wanted.
The girls returned to their seats, and the teacher began to explain the problems.
Both had answered the two difficult problems correctly.
“Hmph, Zhong Yuxiu’s answering speed is no match for mine.”
Zhao Xixia immediately began to show off, hoping to see a look of admiration in Lin You’s eyes.
“Yuxiu was also amazing.”
Just as Yuxiu’s green of friendship grew deeper by the day, Lin You also poured one hundred percent of his passion into this friendship. At the girl’s defeat, his mind was filled with thoughts of comforting her. How could he possibly kick her while she was down?
Zhao Xixia’s plan had completely failed.
“She’s no match for me.”
Zhao Xixia was very annoyed and reiterated.
“Yuxiu was just a little bit slower. Classmate Zhao, you’re not allowed to laugh at Yuxiu.”
It was Lin You’s turn to be protective. He was afraid Xixia would go up to his good friend’s face and mock her.
“Are you telling me what to do? I’ll do as I please, it’s none of your business.”
Xixia had won, but she wasn’t happy at all.
Things had turned out completely different from what she had imagined.
She had clearly won, so why was Lin You so concerned about Zhong Yuxiu?
“Classmate Zhao, you really did want Yuxiu to make a fool of herself… please don’t be like that… If you want to bully someone, you can bully me.”
Looking at the ever-changing expression on Zhao Xixia’s face, Lin You sensed her malicious intent.
“Hmph, don’t mention Zhong Yuxiu to me again, or I’m not done with you.”
Zhao Xixia had lost completely, and she had none of her previous vigor.
She couldn’t understand why Lin You kept defending a loser. Shouldn’t he be worshiping the victor?
The little girl was now troubled by how to snatch Lin You away.
In Lin You’s vision, a touch of purple had been added to the light she emitted.
“Classmate Zhao, why are you angry?”
Lin You didn’t understand why the girl, who had been so arrogant and showy just moments ago, had suddenly become so dejected.
In truth, the victory didn’t matter. What mattered was the attitude he had shown.
This competition had been started because of him in the first place.
The boy had unintentionally revealed the characteristics of a femme fatale.
“Idiot, go care about your precious Zhong Yuxiu. My being angry has nothing to do with you.”
Zhao Xixia simply buried her face in her arms, not wanting to deal with the boy anymore.
Her arrogant nature was slowly crumbling.
Some things were much harder to obtain than she had imagined.
And so, a math class ended on an unhappy note.
There were only two classes on Friday afternoon.
The elementary school students were finally liberated. They were all smiles as they were picked up by their families, dreaming of a wonderful weekend.
“Yuxiu, you were amazing. If Classmate Zhao says anything nasty, don’t take it to heart.”
After school, Lin You briefly met up with Yuxiu and offered a word of comfort.
“I won’t stoop to her level. Um, Youyou, I’ll see you on Monday…”
Zhong Yuxiu saw that the boy was no different than usual, and her worried heart was put at ease. As for Zhao Xixia’s mockery, that was completely irrelevant.
“Bye-bye!”
The friends waved goodbye to each other.
