Jeong Hayeon.
Her skill was as great as the dignity and high self-esteem she exuded.
She graduated from Seoul National University’s College of Fine Arts and held solo exhibitions, making a name for herself.
Her paintings could be enjoyed by people of all ages and genders.
She holds exhibitions targeting specific age groups, and she draws in a variety of styles.
From vivid and detailed paintings that look like photographs to geometric forms that can be interpreted in various ways.
She even draws cartoon characters that children would like.
There was one characteristic in her paintings, which could be said to have mastered all genres in the art world.
All of her paintings were ‘portraits’.
No matter what technique or style she used, the image of a person always drew attention to the center.
‘She has actually published a few character illustration books.’
It’s very easy to entice such a person.
For a creator, their creation is more precious than anything else.
I’ve thought of a way to lure her.
Telling her, “Scared?” like I did with Bom could be one way, but this time I’ll use a different method.
The first thing to do when she comes to the studio is to bow my head as deeply as possible.
“I’m sorry for lying!”
The mister’s studio.
Jeong Hayeon sitting on the living room sofa, crossing her legs and sipping water.
And in front of her, the mister and I sat quietly on chairs, swallowing our saliva.
After hearing that my story was a lie, Jeong Hayeon just quietly drank water.
She didn’t say anything, but I felt overwhelmed by the aura she exuded.
“…She did it, why me.”
“You’re her guardian.”
The mister muttered in a wronged tone, pouting.
And after a moment of awkward silence, Jeong Hayeon let out a small sigh and started talking.
“So, Sua has something she’s doing personally, and she needs an illustration for it, and she said that to find an illustrator, right?”
“…I thought you wouldn’t care if I said it was something I was doing.”
“Smart. People would think it’s homework or a prank if it’s something a child is doing. But I was serious.”
“I, I’m sorry…!”
Jeong Hayeon seemed to be genuinely speaking, with a look of disappointment.
“I promised to help because I was impressed by your determination to help your uncle and that you were already working at such a young age….”
A moment of silence.
After a while, she chuckled and said.
“But a promise is a promise. I won’t just go back.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, I’m curious about how desperate Sua was to lie like that.”
She seems a bit cold, which is overwhelming, but as before, she was a very generous person.
Moreover, she seems to be even more lenient with children.
‘It’s good to be in a child’s body at times like this.’
The consideration of adults who often say, ‘What wrong could a child do’.
Thanks to that consideration of not holding them accountable for their mistakes, I was relieved.
“Then, will you tell me what you’re trying to do?”
At her question, I glanced at the mister.
It seemed okay because she called the mister comfortably, which seemed to indicate they had many interactions, but I asked for the mister’s opinion just in case.
And after seeing the mister nod, I explained the work I was doing.
She was amazed when she heard about my YouTube editing and my efforts to grow my internet broadcasting.
And she asked the mister next to her.
“Is it true that Seongbeom didn’t help with this at all?”
“I haven’t touched anything she’s doing.”
“I heard she inherited your talent, but I didn’t know it was to this extent….”
Then she couldn’t take her eyes off Osorin’s YouTube videos that I edited.
“Ah, so that’s why Seongbeom suddenly started bringing her to the broadcasting station? Well, he brought me so tenaciously, so he wouldn’t not bring his family, right?”
“You said he brought you?”
“Yeah, that guy came to every exhibition I held and bothered me so much. Eventually, I agreed to appear on the broadcast conditionally. I didn’t know then. I didn’t know he was a strange person who collected people.”
“Didn’t your popularity increase quite a bit thanks to that, and you recently appeared as a cameo in a drama? You’re enjoying it.”
“These days, artists have to be proactive in such things. Otherwise, it just becomes a classy and boring genre.”
She said she didn’t want art to be seen as a difficult and esoteric genre.
That’s why her paintings are objective and clear, centered on people.
And for the same reason, she decided to appear on the broadcast.
“Anyway, I understand how sincere Sua is. But why do you need a picture? It seems like there would be no problem continuing with the picture you’re using now.”
Of course, the pictures that Bom drew were enough to make the videos fun.
But that’s not my goal.
I showed her the most recent video.
“I think internet broadcasting will gradually change in the future. Broadcasting with your face revealed is no different from becoming a celebrity.
Their privacy can be exposed. So, it’s becoming natural to broadcast by creating your own character without revealing your face.”
There have always been incidents involving the privacy of internet broadcasters.
Especially in broadcasts called ‘broth broadcasts’ or ‘female cams’, there were many people who stalked them by identifying their location from the buildings visible through the window.
Also, even if it’s not such an incident, there are people who want to broadcast, but don’t want to reveal their faces.
After all, internet broadcasters are not public figures, but ordinary people.
So, internet broadcasting is gradually developing in the direction of covering the face.
“But if you cover your face, people won’t know what kind of expression the broadcaster is communicating with them. Then, half the fun of communication, which is the advantage of live broadcasting, will be lost.
I’m thinking of supplementing that part.”
“That’s this, right? A method that makes the same image feel realistic by changing only the facial expressions.”
“That’s right. But this has limitations. It can only do fixed things, and since it’s manual, there are many things to pay attention to.”
“Then, what does Sua want to do?”
I took a breath and spoke for the first time.
“I’m thinking of making a living, moving character.”
“A living, moving character?”
“Not just doing fixed actions like animation. A character that moves, speaks, and reacts like a real person.”
When I said that, Jeong Hayeon’s eyes twinkled slightly.
“There are many ways to make a character move. You can make a video by drawing frame by frame like making animation, or you can make it like an automatic doll with 3D technology. I don’t want that.”
“I really want to create a character that comes out into the real world and talks, laughs, cries, and likes people.”
Of course, it goes without saying that it’s a person acting like in a puppet show.
But that kind of thing doesn’t matter.
“Can you imagine it? The image of a motionless child you created speaking, laughing, and talking.”
If you’re an artist who draws characters, you’ll dream of it at least once.
The moment your character comes to life.
That’s why they admire animation, the only destination.
But that’s just moving as it’s set.
That your child (character) really thinks, speaks, and moves according to their own will.
For the parent (creator), it would be a dreamlike moment.
“That’s really…….”
Jeong Hayeon’s eyes began to sparkle even more.
“…It’s really a fascinating story. Is this how Eve felt when she was handed an apple by a snake….”
“Don’t worry, there’s no poison.”
“But is it a possible story? It costs a lot of money to put tracking CG in movies.”
“I’ve already found an expert to make the character move. It may not be easy to do right now because of the cost, but if this method attracts attention, more people will gradually want to do it, and the entry barrier will be lowered.”
“Supply and demand. You know difficult things well….”
She put her hand on her mouth and kept looking at my video.
On the screen of the laptop where the YouTube video was playing, Osorin’s story-telling broadcast was heard and the standing image was shown.
I calmly waited for her choice while looking at that figure.
So the video ended.
Jeong Hayeon, who closed her eyes for a moment, slowly raised her head.
“Sua, you tricked me with a lie to help your uncle and brought me here, right?”
“Ah, yes….”
“And I said I’d listen because I made a promise.”
“Yes….”
Is she saying this to refuse?
My heart was pounding.
“So I’ll make one condition.”
“Yes…, yes?”
“Do one thing unnie asks you to do later.”
“Huh…?”
“Then, I’ll do this together.”
“R, really?”
“Unnie doesn’t lie about this.”
Jeong Hayeon smiled gracefully.
Hearing those words, I jumped out of my chair and approached her.
“You can’t change your mind later!”
“I said I wouldn’t. Did you see my heart pounding at the thought of my children moving? I’ve done animation work a few times, but it was always disappointing. Then, I look forward to working with you in the future. Sua, editor.”
“Yes! I look forward to working with you too!”
I grabbed her outstretched hand with both hands and shook it up and down.
The mister is here too, so it’s like having a witness.
‘I can finally start working.’
I never dreamed that the VTuber’s mama would be such a huge big shot.
But good things are good, right?
“Ah, should I bill Seongbeom for the cost?”
“Huh? Why me?”
“You’re Sua’s guardian. Are you telling me to rip off a child’s money?”
“No, she earns a lot of money too….”
“It seems Seongbeom doesn’t need me anymore.”
“…Isn’t it time for withholding tax?”
The mister’s eyes seemed a little moist.
It seems that one more good thing has happened because of my young body.
