Chapter 40: The Lord’s Instruction and a Spear’s Betrayal

Alysia Junia Brutus’s beautiful lips exhaled an alluring scent. After leaving a kiss on Chloe Raina’s cheek, they turned towards her mouth.

This was Chloe Raina’s first kiss!

‘No, it couldn’t be taken just like that.’

Chloe Raina deftly dodged, evading Alysia Junia Brutus’s fervent lips.

Alysia Junia Brutus missed, and her cold, star-like blue eyes swept over Chloe Raina’s silver hair, a look of surprise crossing her face.

“Caesar, why do you flee?”

Longinus approached Alysia Junia Brutus. Due to their height difference, she had to stand on her tiptoes to reach Alysia Junia Brutus’s shoulder.

“Caesar is already dead. She is the Divine Chosen.”

Alysia Junia Brutus shook her head.

“She is certainly not Julius Caesar, but the Empire’s Caesar,” she stated.

“My Lady, do you mean…”

A member of the Original Order murmured, their face resembling a skull, completely bald and quite terrifying.

Their voice was grating, like the rasp of a saw cutting wood.

Yet, a faint glimmer now shone within their empty eye sockets.

Alysia Junia Brutus accepted the gray robe Longinus offered, draping it over herself.

The robe billowed in the wind as she turned to face the assembled Original Order members.

“She is the Divine Chosen we have awaited for three hundred years,” Alysia Junia Brutus declared. “Only she can save the Empire, save the world, and save us all.”

Thunderous applause erupted throughout the area.

Upon hearing Alysia Junia Brutus’s declaration, these withered Original Order members seemed to regain a vibrant spark of life.

The gaze of the Original Order members collectively turned towards Chloe Raina.

Chloe Raina felt as though she were the center of attention, like a star on a stage—no, more like an orator addressing a grand assembly.

Utterly bewildered by the unfolding events, Chloe Raina looked at Alice Fabian Caligula beside her.

Alice Fabian Caligula merely shrugged, then, amidst the cheers and praises, she raised an objection to Alysia Junia Brutus.

“Honestly, it wouldn’t have mattered if you’d appeared before us looking like your colleagues.”

“Naturally, I wished to appear before Caesar in my finest form.” Alysia Junia Brutus winked, her gaze shifting to Chloe Raina.

“What does that mean?” Chloe Raina asked Alice Fabian Caligula, her expression utterly bewildered.

“The Original Order members channel their collective power into one individual, then use flames to reconstruct their body. It’s a heretical trick.”

“Otherwise, she would have aged into the same decrepit state as the other Original Order members.”

Alice Fabian Caligula cast a disgusted glance at Alysia Junia Brutus.

“Have you already forsaken the gods?” she challenged.

“The gods forsook me first.”

“You were the first to betray the Empire.”

“I have embraced a new god, and this new deity shall forge a brand new Empire.”

“Let me guess, is your new god the Ben from the Levant, or the Supreme Emperor from the Land of the Rising Sun?”

“They are all false gods. The Lord I worship is the sole existence in this world—Their name is ‘Summer,’ and Their radiance shall illuminate all corners.”

Upon hearing that name, Chloe Raina nearly spat out the dinner she had just swallowed.

Her sister often complained about this old-fashioned name, always blaming their parents for giving her such a common moniker.

Yet, Xia Ni still cheerfully called her ‘Tian’er’ and ‘Little Tian’.

‘Why did that deity share a name with Chloe Raina’s sister?’

‘Could it truly be a coincidence?’

“Wait, let me ask something. What was the name of the god you originally believed in?”

A thought struck Chloe Raina, and she quickly interjected.

Alysia Junia Brutus leaned down, saying solicitously:

“Though I prefer not to utter that vile god’s name, if it is your wish, Caesar, then I shall comply. Their name is ‘Xia Ni,’ a name that makes me nauseous just to speak.”

‘The very person who makes you nauseous is standing right before you.’

Cold sweat trickled down Chloe Raina’s back.

‘What did this even mean? Was there a god with her own name, and another with her sister’s name? This was absurd.’

Chloe Raina’s mind was a tangled mess.

She decided to simply give up trying to think.

Longinus cast a glance at Chloe Raina.

“Are you truly going to enthrone her as Caesar? She doesn’t seem particularly intelligent,” she asked Alysia Junia Brutus.

“It is the Lord’s instruction,” Alysia Junia Brutus stated unequivocally.

Longinus nodded silently.

She then stepped back.

“Um, what exactly does… Caesar… do?” Chloe Raina asked weakly.

Despite being at the center of the unfolding events, she felt her presence was rather insignificant.

“Caesar was a title in the ancient Empire, equivalent to an emperor,” Alice Fabian Caligula explained. “It seems after escaping the Conservatives and the Divine Chosen Faction, you’ve now fallen into the hands of the Revivalists.”

“What are the Revivalists?”

“They are a group of reactionaries, intent on dragging the entire world back into a s*ave society,” Alice Fabian Caligula said with a helpless sigh.

“Everyone living in peace, content and happy—that is the order the world was always meant to have,” Alysia Junia Brutus stated coldly. “With Caesar, we can achieve this effortlessly.”

‘Restore the world’s original order, is that why they’re called the Original Order?’

“Only the upper echelons would be happy and content, while slaves would live lives worse than death,” Alice Fabian Caligula corrected. “And for that very reason, you assassinated the Caesar who sought to change all of it, didn’t you?”

“I have no desire to speak of Julius Caesar.”

Alysia Junia Brutus watched Alice Fabian Caligula with cold eyes. “Caligula, your words seem rather excessive.”

“I don’t like any of you.”

“I’ve given you many chances, you dog of a dictator. Once you are eliminated, no one will be able to whisper malicious words around the Divine Chosen.”

Alysia Junia Brutus suddenly retreated several steps, beginning to chant.

The Original Order members around her also began to recite incantations.

For the first time, a hint of tension flickered across Alice Fabian Caligula’s face.

Chloe Raina hastily shielded Alice Fabian Caligula.

“What are you trying to do? If you kill her, I won’t live either!” she cried out.

However, this had no effect whatsoever on their chanting speed.

Just as Chloe Raina was about to rush towards Alysia Junia Brutus for a final desperate gamble, a crimson spear slowly emerged from Alysia Junia Brutus’s chest.

Xiao Nuoqi—no, Longinus—slowly pushed the spear horizontally into Alysia Junia Brutus’s heart.

Flames ignited from Alysia Junia Brutus’s wound, and her body gradually began to dissipate.

The chanting ceased instantly.

The bodies of the other Original Order members also started to turn transparent, scattering like snowflakes.

Before vanishing, they cast horrified glances at Longinus.

However, she merely brushed off some dust from her clothes and winked at Chloe Raina.

“Lady Chloe and Lady Alice, you both owe me a favor.”

“Why did they all disappear?”

Chloe Raina was still shaken.

“They poured their last vestiges of power into Alysia Junia Brutus, so when Alysia Junia Brutus vanished, they naturally followed.”

Longinus rubbed her nose, seeming to revert to her persona as the spearman Xiao Nuoqi in that moment.

“Alysia Junia Brutus herself is still alive, though; this was merely her projection.”

“Longinus, I truly don’t understand where you stand,” Alice Fabian Caligula sighed.

Chloe Raina eyed Longinus suspiciously.

“Are you still one of us?” she inquired.

“As for me, I am, of course, on Prince Cliff’s side.”

Longinus leveled her spear once more, aiming it at Chloe Raina and Alice Fabian Caligula.
