Huangwei heard about the incident from onlookers.

Noah slapped Aleng in front of everyone.

All to stand up for Luoyao.

Huangwei summed it up and couldn’t help but tease, “You were straight-up protecting your wife! Now anyone can see your feelings for Luoyao aren’t ordinary.”

Not satisfied, she mimicked Noah’s tone, repeating, “‘Next time she messes with my Luoyao, I’ll kill her’— Geez, you might as well write ‘fierce wife protector’ on your face!”

Noah sat in a wooden rocking chair.

Legs crossed, eyes closed, rubbing her temples, she snapped, “Enough yapping.”

“I slapped her. What, she gonna slap me back?”

Huangwei sighed. “Lucky you don’t have enemies. If someone twists this and tells Mom, you and Luoyao are done for.”

Noah shrugged carelessly. “So what if Mom knows? My blood s*ave got bullied. I can’t hit back?”

Huangwei palmed her forehead. “That excuse is flimsy, and you know it.”

“Whatever, no use worrying. Where there’s a will, there’s a way—”

Huangwei cut in, “And ships sink at the bridge.”

“Picking a fight, huh?” Noah grabbed a book from the table and tossed it.

Huangwei caught it easily.

Peeking from behind it, she said, “Let’s talk business. Any clues about Luoyao’s background in the city?”

Noah answered flatly, “Nope.”

“Then what’ve you been doing all this time?”

Noah thought for a moment.

Before she could speak, Huangwei raised a hand. “Never mind. Your face says it all.”

Noah protested, “I didn’t even say anything!”

Huangwei smirked. “I know you. When it comes to Luoyao, you get all excited. Three days with her, and it’s a miracle she walks out of the bedroom alive.”

Noah facepalmed. “Okay, fine, I did find some clues.”

“What’d you learn?”

Noah recalled, “Luoyao never met her parents. An old lady raised her. She passed away when Luoyao started college.”

The info was sparse.

But Huangwei dropped her playful grin, analyzing seriously, “So her origins are still a mystery.”

“No one knows who her real parents are.”

She pursed her lips. “Alright, I’ll have someone dig deeper. Don’t count on yourself for this. All you think about with Luoyao is making love.”

Noah blinked, correcting earnestly, “And drinking her blood.”

“Oh, right, I forgot. You can only drink Luoyao’s blood now. Others’ blood makes you sick.”

Noah nodded. “Can you analyze her blood and make a substitute or something? I can’t keep draining her. She won’t hold up.”

Since reuniting, Noah’s feeding had noticeably decreased.

Not from lack of hunger.

She was deliberately holding back.

Vampire hunger was one of the world’s cruelest sensations.

Far worse than human hunger, it tormented body and will.

A vampire starved for over forty days could drain three adults.

And barely feel full.

Yet Noah endured that agony.

She limited herself to small sips, ensuring Luoyao wouldn’t suffer anemia.

She loved seeing Luoyao soft and clingy after feeding.

But if it cost Luoyao’s health, Noah would rather starve.

Vampires wouldn’t die easily from hunger.

But Luoyao was just a human girl.

How could Noah trade her love’s health for a meal?

Huangwei paused, then said, “Making a blood substitute is tough. Might take a month or two.”

“No problem.”

“Cool, that’s it for now?”

“Yup. Oh, how’s Anna?”

Huangwei glanced at the recovery room. “Not badly hurt. She’ll need a few days to rest. But if she drank human blood, she’d be bouncing in hours.”

“Blood vault stock no good?”

Huangwei shook her head. “Fresh blood versus stored? Night and day for nutrition. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of her.”

“Alright. Call if you need me.”

Huangwei raised an eyebrow, teasing, “You mean you’ll call me.”

“I’m a very reliable adult female vampire. I’m over three hundred. Not adult enough?”

“You act like you’re thirty.”

“Whatever. I’m out.”

Noah stood, strolling down the clock tower stairs.

Huangwei smiled, pleased.

No running this time—her heart rejoiced.

As Noah’s steps faded, Huangwei relaxed.

She leaned back, stretching luxuriously.

After a brief rest, she glanced outside.

The east was whitening.

Sunrise was near.

“Time to sleep.”

She stood, heading to the window to draw the curtains.

But as she raised her hand, a black crow landed on the sill.

Huangwei froze.

She studied the crow.

Nothing special, except a strange pattern in its left pupil.

She pursed her lips, checking to ensure Noah wouldn’t return.

Then she faced the crow.

She raised her hand, fingers to her temple.

Seconds later, the same pattern appeared in her pupil.

Vampire arcane art: Spirit Eye.

An ancient technique for remote communication via a medium.

Phones were common among vampires in the 21st century.

But that woman was an “old fossil.”

She couldn’t handle new tech.

“Mom,” Huangwei said respectfully.

Gone was her usual laziness and irreverence.

“My dear daughter, how’ve you been?” the woman called “Mom” replied.

Her voice sounded young, like a human woman in her thirties.

Mature, sultry, magnetic—each syllable lingered.

Huangwei knew Mom didn’t use Spirit Eye for small talk.

“Fine. Is there something urgent?”

“Not urgent, just curious. In my absence, has Noah grown up?”

Huangwei thought, then answered, “She’s the only S-class vampire in this hunting ground, per the Church. Her combat skills keep improving. Her adaptability… it’s terrifying.

The Church’s bone-titanium bullets, made to kill vampires, barely faze her now.”

“And—”

Mom cut her off. “I meant, has she met Doctor Luo’s daughter?”
