“Bang, bang!”
The crisp sound of metal shell casings hitting the ground mixed with the sound of the river’s waves.
Gu Xiyan clutched the back of her neck.
The blood beads seeping out glowed with a strange indigo blue in the cold light of the advertising screen.
The blood flowed down between her fingers, dripping onto the ground and blooming into bright red flowers.
She stumbled and crashed into a flood control post, her high heels crushing a few pieces of rubble on the flood control embankment.
The bullets sparked as they hit the guy’s skin.
The guy’s claws had a pungent smell like formalin, and his skin had a deathly pale sheen under the neon lights, like a morgue’s freezer.
If she hadn’t reacted quickly, this guy’s last blow could have torn her head off!
“Rip—”
A second claw wind tore through her left shawl, and the artificial fur exploded into flocculent wisps in the night sky.
“What the hell are you?!”
A low growl, wrapped in sparks, rolled from Gu Xiyan’s throat.
Her pupils suddenly constricted into an almond shape, and her eyes rippled with a faint blue.
A scorching heat flowed from her heart and lungs, into her limbs and bones.
‘There was no demonic energy on this guy. He wasn’t a demon?!’
‘But he also had no aura of a living person, and his movements were as stiff as a corpse.’
The advertising screen suddenly flickered with static, reflecting her mutated face—in the shadow falling from above, fine, golden-brown fur was piercing through her beautiful hair, and a pair of fox ears grew out.
Under the torn fake tail buckle, a real, crimson fox tail broke through the skin.
The fox fire at the tip of the tail illuminated the flood control embankment like a purgatory.
Three balls of fox fire shot up from her tailbone, and the smell of sulfur and hormones, mixed with a sweet, fishy smell, floated in the burnt air.
Gu Xiyan spat out a broken canine tooth.
The shocking wound on her neck was scabbing over at a speed visible to the naked eye, and a newborn fang had already pierced through her lower lip.
She was all too familiar with this tearing sensation—four years ago, when she had awakened in that building, she had used such fangs to bite through iron chains.
Yes, Gu Xiyan wasn’t a human.
She was actually a half-demon.
Half-breeds born from humans and demons had existed since ancient times.
The number of these half-demons hidden in human society had never been small.
It was just that many of them would never discover that they actually had demon blood in their lifetime.
Compared to demon genes, human genes could actually completely suppress demon genes in many aspects.
They could perfectly suppress demon genes into a recessive state.
Otherwise, the world would be dominated by demons, not humans.
Only when their lives were in danger would those demon genes briefly overcome the human genes and become dominant under the instinct for survival.
And these half-demons would usually be immediately registered and monitored by the Demon Suppression Division after awakening their demon genes.
Only after passing a threat assessment could they obtain limited freedom.
And some half-demons would choose to join the Demon Suppression Division in order to obtain greater freedom, such as Gu Xiyan.
“Demon slayer… demon… all… kill…”
The long-haired figure’s voice was as jerky as the meshing of rusty gears.
The waving sharp claws actually brought several air blades in the air and attacked with a “whoosh,” making a sound like a sword’s cry.
Three balls of fox fire smashed towards the long-haired figure like cannonballs, but the flames, which were enough to melt steel, were all cut to pieces by the air blades.
Gu Xiyan hurriedly rolled into the groove of the floodgate.
The air blades had already torn the cast iron guardrail to shreds.
A dark red airflow followed the texture of the floodgate and attacked.
In the blue light projected by the “Xuanhuang Ji” new skin advertisement, it cut the road surface into nine regular sword marks.
“Whoosh!”
An ice prism suddenly tore through the night wind, wrapped in fine ice crystals, and pierced through the leaves of the roadside trees.
A crisp sound of metal clashing exploded, and sparks flew as it just barely deflected the sharp claw that was attacking Gu Xiyan.
The broken leaves of the sophora tree fluttered down, refracting a faint green phosphorescence in the neon light.
The shimmering waves on the river surface suddenly surged with a white mist, and the snake demon girl descended from the sky, shattering the moonlight.
A frost-like gauze wrapped around her waist, flickering in the neon lights.
With every step she took, a spiderweb of ice patterns bloomed on the surface of the water.
“Tsk, you don’t have some kind of special fetish, do you?”
Gu Xiyan suddenly complained, the pair of fox ears on her head twitching with her words.
‘This snake demon girl’s entrance was so ethereal, but why was she only wearing her underwear?’
“None of your business!”
The snake demon girl raised her hand and threw out three ice cones.
The cold light grazed Gu Xiyan’s hair and pierced into the cement ground, a white, cold air rising.
In her demonic energy boiling state, her personality was indeed a little different from usual.
But…
‘Gu Xiyan?!’
Looking at the pair of twitching fox ears on Gu Xiyan’s head and the tail fluttering behind her, she was also stunned.
‘Those were definitely not cosplay props, but real fox ears and a fox tail.’
‘The demonic energy she had smelled in the restroom before had come from her. She didn’t expect that Gu Xiyan, with her bright eyes and thick eyebrows, was also a demon?’
‘No, that’s not right!’
‘The demonic energy on her was very mixed. It didn’t seem to be a pure-blooded ancient demon.’
‘This was more like the half-demon that Guan Qing had mentioned before.’
‘So she was a half-demon?’
The snake demon girl glanced at the Demon Suppression Division’s standard-issue pistol in Gu Xiyan’s hand and suddenly remembered that Guan Qing had once said that a portion of half-demons would choose to work for the Demon Suppression Division.
‘So Gu Xiyan was one of them?’
What the girl didn’t know was that she had actually met Gu Xiyan before when she had saved the weasel professor.
It was just that Gu Xiyan had specially used a transformation technique to disguise her appearance in order to get close to the weasel professor.
Otherwise, the snake demon girl would have recognized her at their first meeting at the comic convention today.
“I thought you couldn’t speak properly.”
Gu Xiyan’s fox ears twitched twice.
She spun her gun in a beautiful flourish.
Two modified bullets drew faint blue tails in the night sky and accurately hit the attacking sharp claws again.
“We can’t let him get any further! There are civilians in the public restroom.
Although that might not matter to you, right?”
“A half-demon is also a demon.
I don’t have any prejudice against you.”
The snake demon girl spun and whipped her tail.
The black-iron-like scaled tail collided with the suddenly pouncing black shadow, and the sound of metal scraping was grating.
“I’m a human!”
Three balls of fox fire instantly left Gu Xiyan’s hands.
The faint blue flames were wrapped in a strange purple glow, and the moment they touched the long-haired figure’s chest, they burst with the smell of sulfur.
The faint blue sparks only burned away the dirty hospital gown on the figure, revealing his pale skin.
Under the skin, dark green blood vessel patterns were like frozen tree roots.
“What the hell is this thing?”
The snake demon girl clapped her hands.
The frost patterns under her feet swam like silver snakes, turning into a layer of ice and rapidly climbing up the long-haired figure’s ankle.
But it was suddenly shattered when it reached his knees.
Three bullets accurately hit the figure’s chest, but they only burst into three sparks on his pale skin.
“Tsk, so hard! I thought you, a demon, would have seen this thing before!”
Gu Xiyan pulled open her collar, and the steaming hot air turned into a fox-like phantom.
“I said, Ice Pop Girl, if you can’t freeze him, let me…”
Before she could finish, six ice prisms grazed past her ear and froze the long-haired figure, who was about to pounce on them, in place.
“Who are you calling an ice pop, half-demon!”
The snake demon girl’s fingertips condensed into an ice crystal longbow.
“Mind your own fox tail!”
