X
The bell rang, signaling the end of class.
Sister Yuan glanced at me, assigned the homework, and left the classroom.
Zheng Chen’s gossipy voice immediately sounded in my ear.
“Being led away by a beautiful senior, then brought back by a gorgeous teacher… Young Master Lu, how do you have so much clout?”
“Get lost.”
“Teacher Mo was just worried about me, that’s all.”
“What about the senior, then?”
“What did she want with you?”
“What’s your relationship?”
“Fess up, or it’s curtains for you.”
I shot him a look, paused for a moment, and said, “She’s my sister.”
“She needed me for something, so don’t jump to conclusions.”
Zheng Chen eyed me suspiciously, his face a mask of disbelief.
I swallowed, blinked calmly, and acted as if I were talking about something perfectly ordinary.
I was still quite confident in my ability to lie.
Though it was nearly useless against Sister Yuan, I didn’t think this idiot Zheng Chen would see through it.
Besides, it wasn’t exactly a lie.
My relationship with Miss Yun Rou could be considered that of a brother and sister, right?
She even told me to call her sister.
Feeling a gaze from the desk in front of me, I looked up and met An Xue Ruo’s equally puzzled eyes.
‘…She seems to know about my relationship with Sister Yuan. Now another ‘Sister Yun Rou’ has popped up.’
‘She’s not going to expose me, is she?’
“Young Master Lu, what’s your sister’s name?”
“Why did she suddenly transfer to our school?”
“Why do you have so many questions?”
“Honestly.”
I pushed away Zheng Chen’s curious, advancing face and added, “Just drop it.”
“It’s not my place to tell you about her affairs.”
“Also, I’d advise you not to get any ideas about her.”
“My sister… she’s… well, you can see it, right?”
“I know, I know.”
“Even if you didn’t say it, Young Master Lu, with that face of your sister’s, as cold as a block of ice, no one would be foolish enough to try anything.”
That was true.
Miss Yun Rou practically had the words “strangers keep out” written on her face.
No normal person would go looking for trouble.
I glanced at An Xue Ruo, who was still staring at me but hadn’t said anything, and gave her an awkward smile.
“What’s wrong?”
“Classmate An Xue Ruo, is there something you need?”
“Classmate Lu You, this sister of yours…”
Hearing that An Xue Ruo was about to ask about Miss Yun Rou, I quickly shot her a look, signaling that Zheng Chen was still here.
She noticed my reminder, glanced at Zheng Chen, and stopped her words mid-sentence.
“Never mind, it’s nothing.”
Seeing her turn back around, I breathed a sigh of relief.
Good, she didn’t expose me.
“Classmate and friend of the goddess Xue Ruo, younger brother of a beautiful senior, and the special focus of Teacher Mo Yuan’s care… Young Master Lu, your high school life is shaping up to be quite something.”
“If I had a choice, I’d rather not receive Teacher Mo’s ‘special care’.”
Time slipped by quietly as we chatted.
The school bell rang again.
I looked at the small birds frolicking under the scorching sun outside the window and recalled Miss Yun Rou on the rooftop just now.
‘The look in her eyes was so helpless, just like I used to be.’
Ultimately, Sister Yuan left her because of me.
Whether I wanted it or not, I was, to some extent, involved in the change in the relationship between Yun Rou and Sister Yuan.
Even if she doesn’t blame me, even if no one would blame me, I can’t help but feel a little guilty towards her.
But I won’t leave Sister Yuan because of this.
Sister Yuan and I made a promise long ago to always be together.
I hope Miss Yun Rou can find peace with it soon.
After school, Sister Yuan and I returned home to find a letter from Yun Rou on the table.
It basically said that she had already left the house and moved out.
She would still attend Qiuhua High School in the future but would no longer live with us.
The luggage she had left in Sister Yuan’s room was also gone.
It was packed up so neatly, it was as if she had never been here at all.
“Sister Yuan, Miss Yun Rou, why did she…”
“It’s a necessary part of growing up.”
“Let’s respect Xiao Rou’s choice.”
I could hear a hint of relief in Sister Yuan’s voice.
It seemed she truly saw Yun Rou’s departure as a sign of her growth.
“The house just started to feel a little livelier, and now it’s just the two of us again.”
“Isn’t that nice?”
“You’re so greedy, Xiao You.”
“Isn’t having me enough?”
“That’s not what I mean.”
“Sister Yuan, do you really like it this much when it’s just the two of us?”
Sister Yuan walked up behind me, wrapped her arms around my neck, and pressed her mouth close to my ear, whispering softly.
“I’ve said it many times.”
“Xiao You only needs me.”
“As long as you have your sister, that’s enough.”
“Everyone else should be superfluous to you.”
“Sister Yuan, the way you say that is a little creepy.”
“You’re not serious, are you?”
Only a small lamp was on in the house.
The night had already covered a large area.
I stood in the light, and Sister Yuan was in the darkness behind me.
I couldn’t see her face, and for some reason, I didn’t dare turn my head to look at her.
Everything outside seemed to have come to a standstill.
The room was terrifyingly quiet.
The slender arms around my neck tightened, and my back was pressed firmly against Sister Yuan’s soft, large breasts.
“Sister Yuan?” I asked.
Although it was the height of summer, the atmosphere made me feel a chill from an unknown source, like a cold viper slithering over my entire body.
The faint light in the boundless darkness was like an old man on the verge of death, liable to be extinguished at any moment.
“Xiao You, did you tell your classmates that Xiao Rou is your sister?”
Sister Yuan ignored my question, her voice losing its usual gentle and melodious tone.
“I had to find some excuse.”
“Otherwise, my classmates would definitely start guessing wildly.”
“They might even spread rumors that Miss Yun Rou is my girlfriend.”
“Girlfriend, girlfriend, girlfriend…”
Sister Yuan’s tone turned icy in an instant, and she began chanting those three words as if possessed.
“I said rumors!”
“Rumors!”
“And I’ve already told them that Miss Yun Rou and I are siblings, so they probably won’t speculate about our relationship anymore.”
“And what about siblings?”
“So now Xiao Rou has also become Xiao You’s sister.”
“That’s just great.”
“Now Xiao You is no longer just my little brother.”
Sister Yuan’s voice grew agitated, her cold tone laced with anger.
The arms wrapped around me also tightened their grip.
“Sister Yuan, don’t get worked up.”
“Miss Yun Rou is your younger sister and she’s older than me, so doesn’t that make her my sister too?”
“I don’t care.”
“Not even Xiao Rou.”
“Xiao You can only have me as his sister.”
Faced with Sister Yuan’s sudden resentment, my mind was thrown into chaos, and my body trembled involuntarily.
All sorts of countermeasures flashed through my mind, but not a single one could guarantee I would get out of this unscathed.
Suddenly, inspiration struck, and an idea I’d never had before appeared in my mind.
With great difficulty, I turned my head within her embrace, hugged her head, and leaned close to her ear, saying in a wheedling tone.
“I was wrong, I’m sorry, darling~”
“This isn’t something that can be solved by acting cute, Xiao You.”
“If I don’t teach you a lesson today, my surname isn’t Mo.”
